I have a mark 2 focus with a Sony radio. This morning I had the radio on and the volume was adjusting itself without touching the steering controls or the radio itself. It would increase and decrease in volume every few seconds.

Has anyone else with this model experienced the same thing. Is it a fault with the radio or the steering wheel controls. Or is it something else. Read more

My car skid last week due to the poor weather and hit a 3rd party. I don't live at home but had to go home to do the MOT as my Dad is not in UK at present. I processed the claim but as my dad is the main policy holder, he had to call the insurance company. He went to Hong Kong to visit my sister in June and was intending to come back in September. However, my Mum was not well and so my Dad stayed with her. However, my insurance company said that this is a change of circumstance as he no longer lives in the UK and therefore I am now the main driver. They will process the claim but would need me to pay the extra premium.

Is it legal for them to do this even though the policy is unclear on what is " change of circumstances". Also it is not written any where on what is classed as being away. My Dad still pays the council tax and all the bills in the UK so although he is not here as a person he intends to come back in the near future.... Read more

Hi Green, sorry to hear of you accident but I think you are lucky the ins co have agreed to do what they have. You say it is YOUR car yet your dad is the main policy holder (presumably with you as a named driver or with an open policy saying any driver with your dad's permission?)

So assuming it is YOUR car, as Lucy says this is "fronting" ie you are falsely declaring your dad to be the main driver in order to recieve a reduced premium. ...

I ordered a Golf GTD back in July and I still don't even have a build date - although the dealer said when I placed the order that it would be delivered Nov/Dec time. Now (after many excuses) the latest is that they may be able tosupply a build date in a few weeks time and delivery may be in about 20 weeks (!). This is all they could tell even after complaining at many places, even to the German HQ!

They had many excuses so far - eg high demand for the DSG gearbox, a fire in the gearbox factory, etc. Most recently the dealer claimed that VW cut all of the dealerships' allocations from 6 to 2, without even telling them. It's getting difficult to believe anything they tell me and anyway, who cares? All I want is a car, not excuses.... Read more

My head and side lights keep blowing on the Alfa - it has been a real problem this year - I have already replaced 2 x headlights and 2 x side lights - they do not go at the same time. Any ideas? My dealer seems to think it is bad luck - but this has been happening a lot over the last 2 years. Read more

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help? I have had the ignition fault on my saxo that stops the HRW and blower working. I have just used the relay fix, which has worked, but the relay is getting hot to the touch. I was wondering if this is normal.

Cheers

I recently moved to the country and traded my Mini Cooper auto for a Jimny auto as the Mini was too low for the country lanes. However, I am not entirely happy with the Jimny and am not certain that I need a 4wd but rather a car with high ground clearance.

I am not in a hurry to change the car and want to do lots of research to make sure I get it right this time. What small automatic car(s) would you recommend that do have high ground clearance. ... Read more

I have a 2001X Peugeot 206 2.0 HDi which seems to have gone crazy over the last few days. Basically all the indicators are permenantly lit, dull & not at full brightness. The rear fog light indicator on the dash is also permenantly on, again dull but when the brake pedal is pressed it gets brighter & also the milometer goes dull.

When the indicator stalk is moved to the on postion for either the left or right side both sides actually flash like when the hazards are turned on. This causes the engine revs to drop slightly with every flash. It also causes the milometer to go every when the indicators flash on... Read more

try taking the bulbs out the rear light holders or disconnect the plugs first and see if the problem goes away. Almost sounds like you have a bridged filiment or bad earth.

My (from new) Grand Cherokee has served well, driving round town and pulling a little caravan a handful of times, for just over 41,000 miles and 51 months. Until two weeks ago.

We drove from Norwich to Brighton on Saturday and then round Brighton a little. In total, we went about 220 miles, with no issues. I parked on the road that night, and when I came to start the car in the morning, it refused to engage a gear of any sort (automatic). I called the AA, who ran diagnostics but could only reset warnings and get it into 'limp home' mode (3rd gear). They drove it round the block like this (a few hundred yards), and we came to the conclusion that it needed to be got to a garage.... Read more

Are you sure you fitted the thermostat round the correct way, with the capsule towards the engine & that the coolant has sufficient anti-freeze for this exceptionally cold spell.
