Hi guys,
I have got a very big problem with my vw sharan 1.9 tdi 1999 (same as a seat alhambhra?). About 6-8 weeks ago, we got a heavy downpour and when i set off in the mpv and moved off, a small amount of water (no more than a handful), dropping from the clock side.... Read more
OK, this is driving me nuts! Car has been sitting for a week or two in the freezing cold but started ok. I ran it for about 40miles and filled up with deisel, it was running great. Later I went to start it and it struggled, it would fire but die after a few seconds. I found that switching the ignition off then on when it started to die would keep it running. After a bit of revving and off/on on the ignition it ran perfectly again. Seems like the fuel is being shut off, anyone have any ideas?
Much appreciated! Read more
I wish it was that simple! No, it was the immobiliser shutting the fuel off. Had to remove the module at the pump, horrible, nasty job but its done and runs great again. Hope nobody steals it.... :D

Moved to Technical, where you should get some help.
I was recently on a motorway journey 50 miles from home when the rear silencer broke away from the rest of the exhaust system. There seemed to be some loss of pulling power in the engine.
I was advised by the rescue service that they could remove the hanging silencer and then it would be safe to drive home. Bearing in mind that the remaining exhaust system would be without one of its supports and the possible intake of exhaust gases into the car, would it be OK to drive home? Could any damage be caused to the engine?
Thank you.

Quite agree with Fordman, now the other issue is that a lot of boat trailers are unbraked ! now that puts it all into a whole new dimension, my Boat trailer for a Jet boat weiging in at nearly 2 tons wasn't a braked trailer from the supplier !
I used a galaxy to tow one of my boats out the thames and the slip way was wooden and it just couldn't move the boat and a fellow boat enthusiast got his 4x4 & pulled it up the slip way! although I have to say most are concrete these days. The biggest problem is some slips are shallow and the trailer needs to go a long way in the water and with a saloon car this means giving the rear a deep wade and I have known salt water to flood in the boot! so 4X4 can be better....
Hello guys, Battery was disconnected for mechanical work on my mk4 fiesta and on reconnecting the radio is asking for key code. I have none of the original manuals with the car so was wondering if anyone could help me with the key code. The serial number is M250173 and the radio unit is an RDS 5000. Thanks in advance Read more
I need a code for my Fiesta. The serial is M014938. Thanks a lot!
Hello,
I want to mess around the timing on my 1.9 TD, AAZ (advance it a bit), but I can't figure out how the timing solenoid (if it is a solenoid) on the bosch pump works. I've been searching on google, but there is very little info about it.... Read more
Check visually the system components. Do you have a Mass Air Flow Sensor? Do you have a Needle Lift Sensor on one injector? And does the engine have a Coolant Temperature Sensor? If the answers are all yes then you have an EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) system and in this case the precise injection timing is controlled by the ECU.
However, the pump needs to have a base setting which is altered by adjusting the relationship between the pump shaft and the pulley. The engine can be difficult to start if it's wrong, or other problems such as excessive diesel knock may occur. There are no marks to set this up, and so it can only be done with the appropriate diagnostic equipment. Any adjustments made without will only ever be a best guess. The base timing should be checked every so often, and especially after a cambelt change....
Hi i was in a collision last night. I was sat at a traffic light junction in the right hand lane and the lights turned green. There was no oncoming traffic so i set off into the middle of the junction and turned right, as i was turned a fiesta impacted my pasenger door and rear passenger side spinning my car. A pedestrian had just crossed where the fiesta came from and informed the police there was no car 3 seconds earlier when he crossed the road. The driver impacted my car with force which leads me to believe he was speeding to get through the lights. Who is to blame in a collision like this? Can anyone help? Read more
It seems strange that the damage to the Fiesta is so slight if, as you claim, it was going so fast that it wasn't in sight when you started your right turn.

Try top quality extra brilliant bulbs from Philips or Osram.Fitting is a little awkward ,but there is a plastic access panel behind the headlight ,in the wheelarch.hth

I'm glad you've found the main problem, to help get rid of the rest of the moisture try using a small fan heater (carefully positioned!) in the car for a while. When the recirculation button is pressed or your pollen filter becomes blocked you effectively stop any fresh air entering the car thus stopping old stale/moist air leaving the car!. Any moisture in the car (after being parked overnight etc..) or any water vapour you breathe out will condense on any cold surface (glass, metal.....) thus causing the symptoms you described. Why does the button exist? It's useful to use for a while when following a badly polluting vehicle. It is also helps cool your car quicker when using air con on a very hot day, if you use recirculation you keep chilling previously chilled air rather than warm fresh air.
