Hi Guys,
This relates to a my car which ended up rearended and written off, when stuck in a queue and rearended by another car at about 55MPH. The other party has admitted full liability, and so have retained my NCB and have the excess back.
From the date of the accident to recieving the insurance cheque, approx 2 month's passed due to the lax attitude of the insurance company. (Had to make an official compliant).
This question is about the costs I can claim for, and how can loss of use be calculated for a expensive car.
I was given a hire car for 2 days, though returned it as it was powerful and with no tactical feedback so felt it was dangerous to drive as had no idea of the road surface. The insurance companies legal division, seemed to be entirely focused on supplying replacement vehicles which is not honest to me. Hardly suprising as I found out they would have charged over £300 per day (discounted over 2 months), or about £20K for 2 months for the car I was given.
I did not claim whiplash, as it cleared up after 3 days or so.
I cannot claim for time, as did not lose any busines despite spending 3-4 days sorting things out.
I have coalated the taxis, train and tube fares which is about £800.
The legal company has stated I cannot claim for both loss of use and travel expenses, my problem with that is:-
a) I have not been able to do what I would normally have done, using the car on the weekends or late when it is impossible to get taxis/transportation.
b) The travel expenses are for the weekdays.
I have also been told for loss of use I can claim £10 per day, which is hardly fair for a car which costs about £2500 to maintain a year in the past few years and has a depreciation of £2000 a year.

i was involved in a similar collision, firstly you are entitled to hire a like for like vehicle, they will usually find you a bmw or mercedes, they supplied me an 's'class. you can claim for any and all out of pocket expenses providing you can prove your loss, they may squirm at first but keep pushing and do not be put off by the thought of going to court, if you have your proof they will give in before this, also threaten to engage a ;no win no fee solicitor, they will rather deal diect with you else they end up paying you anyway and then all of your solicitors costs !!! do not give in
Just obtained this 2nd hand Mondeo. 19K Miles. My question concerns the trip computer that seems (in comparison with my previous Mazda 6), extremely sensitive.
After a longish run of about 100 miles of varied driving with the computer set at anything but "Average consumption", I switch to this reading. This reading begins to react immediately to consumption variation as though it were set to "Consumption now" (Althought not quite as sensitive). ... Read more
Thanks, Oilburner. Everything works as it should and yes one can reset all readings. I really need to know if the perfomance of the Computer is as it should be.
Had an issue with battery not charging and fault was isolated to the alarm sounder. During invesitigation at main dealer multiple circuits were isolated to locate fault. After car had been fixed multiple items on car fail when heated rear window turned on, fault is not consistent and can not locate fault. When heated rear window operated the radio switches off completely (no time on screen), rear window heater does not operate (light on dash operates) interior lights do not work, rear wash wipe does not operate and rear door locks do not work, there may be others but have not checked operation of all eatures but all other electrical systems seem to function correctly.
When I have the fault you can here the relays operate for the rear window and wash wipe but nothing happens. After a while the (10 minutes) or after the car has been switched off for a while the systems come back to life I then have to reenter the car radio code. There seems to be a problem with a common supply to these circuits but without a wiring schematic I have no idea what connections to check and the fault seems to clear itself when at the main dealer so they can not locate the fault. 2005 euro IV engine, manual gear box.
I need some advice please.
My 97 A4 is very very dead, not only will it not start, the alarm is dead, the central locking is dead, the instrument lights are dead, even the clock is dead.
The battery is less than a year old and prior to today it has been starting without any issues in the cold. I have tried jump starting it but this didn't work either, still not lights on the instrument panel.
Please give me some ideas what it might be.
Cheers

I suggest you have a broken cable or a failed earth wire, measure the voltage of the battery if you have12v then something should light up regardless.
Hi There,
My Clio Dci (y-reg) 1.5 is not playing along as per usual. This little car has never missed a beat BUT the other day it wouldnt start although its turning over but its not firing up! I used it to go to work the day before and its a car I use every day. The "glow plug" light on the dash does not come on now and I have checked them to make sure they are all working. I have been told so many stories from ECU to bad alarm system BUT the keyfob opens and locks the car as per usual and like I said it does turn over but does not fire up!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!... Hi, I was driving till work the other morning and the power steering light was displayed in the tachometer so i dropped the car off with the mechanic who told me that the aluminium support bracket under the power steering and air con pumps had snapped. I've rang my local Vaux dealer enquiring into the part number and he told me that the bracket should be mark with 'AL' and the part number is 24401737.
Has anyone else ever experienced this part failure and am I even asking about the correct part?
thanks in advance Read more
Just confirmed from the mechanic that this part number is 24401737 is the part that is actually broken, anyone have any advice on this part failing?
Being a bit of a noob (read TOTAL noob) I did a bit of reading about changing the fuel filter on my 306 and found countless people recommending changing both the filter and housing because of the temperamental nature of the HDi engine and the risks of contaminants reaching the HP side of the system after a filter change
As it seems a housing costs around 80 quid this seems a bit excessive, so I wondered if anyone knew of an alternative compatible filter and combined disposeable housing for this car rather than the cartridge type its designed to use... Read more
I have a 306 which wouldnt start, I ruled out the LP pump by powering it via a sealey power probe and a spare battery and the car starts and runs fine
After looking into common faults with this model and bearing in mind I probably know less about cars than the average 6 year old girl this might be a world class dumb question lol... Read more
The fuel pump primes for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. This is to build pressure in the low pressure side of the fuel system. The pump then runs when the engine is cranked, and continues to run when the engine is running.
The pump is fed by a relay which is switched on by the ECU when it receives an RPM signal, and is switched off when the engine is no longer running. This acts as a safety system so if the car were to be involved in an accident and a fuel line was severed, fuel would not be pumped onto the road making an already dangerous situation potentially worse. For this reason you should not 'hotwire' the low pressure pump other than for workshop testing purposes.....
Bought a 520diesel 2008 plate car out of the showrooms and we asked if it was the new 2008 engine with the 177 bhp and the sales manager confirmed this but now we have ad it for 3months we have found out that it is a 2007 163 bhp we have been intouch with him and he said he would replace it at first now after calling and calling him he as told us that when a part exchange comes in we can have that but argument is when and if it's the right car for us which we thought we had bought for £19300 from main dealer can anybody tell us were we stand and what can we do. Many thanks tony

work out what you want. if you dont want the car ask for a refund
if actually the cars fine, then ask for a bit of money back, work out the difference in residual values between the 2 specs when you plan to sell as a guide...
If I recall, these can be removed without dash removal.take out glove box and I think it slides sideways.hth
