The bulbs are either end of the rear number plate, the rear near side bulb is out. how do you get the bulb out to change the number plate bulb. is it from inside the boot or are you suppose to pull the whole unit out, or is it under the spoiler. any help will be much appreciated. thanks. Read more

Soon be time to change my 2002 RAV4 D4D, for another similar "softroader" to handle our tricky farm track access.

Looking into Honda CRVs, reading about notchy manual gearchanges - are they still an issue with latest production?
In general it seems CRV reliability is not upto Honda's par?
any other probs?

Am I right in thinking diesel is probly not the way forward for low mileages (i've got 55k in 8years on the RAV4) because of DMF probs (which I've had with RAV4 :<(() and DPF on newer diesels?

So anything else to consider a contender - IX35? Sonata? others?

Any (helpful) comments, links, pointers gratefully received

Thanks in advance

I run the CRV iDtec Auto and my office is 6 miles from home. The car has 8000 miles on it now (over 9 months) and I have not once seen the warning light asking for a regen.

I do avoid driving to the shops (half a mile away) and walk instead and it gets about a 50 mile motorway blast maybe once a month and the occasional long run. With the Auto I also select D3 if am poodling around locally as this uses only the first 3 gears and therefore keeps the revs up higher. The Honda sales guy told me providing I dont start the car up drive to the next road and stop on a regular basis the car will be fine....

Hi the problem is that the only half of the rear windsecreen heater works. That is only the top half.

When I switch it on the bottom half clears ok but the top half nothing stays as it is.... Read more

Ok I'll try to pass a direct earth cable, as I am not very confident of the current state, more so because I had car subjected to an extensive paint job that might have increased insulation between earthing and body work.

If that fails I'll try very close investigation, sherlock style by means of a magnifying glass :)

Anyone come across this before?

We have had some very cold nights this week (-14!) but I'm still surprised the rearview mirror in my 7 month old Mondeo has simply cracked top to bottom.... Read more

I assume this is the interior mirror? If so you have a claim under warranty. If it's exterior, forget it, they will just say you clipped something.

If it is the interior mirror and you intend to fix it yourself, it will be pricey. If it's auto-dimming, then think of a big number and then double it.

Strange things afoot in these Arctic conditions and I don`t mean Yeti. After almost having to crow-bar the car doors open this morning I found the ice-scraper welded frozen to the passenger floor mat.Maybe a bit of condensation got into your switch but more likely it`s just failed, same happened to me on one of the Golfs I owned.Link below should help.

Hi, this morning the heater in my car didnt work, it just blew cold air constantly. It was working fine last night.

Also i have a cd changer in the back and it was reading as empty even though there are cd's in it. It went down to -15 last night and im wondering whether this could have had an impact??... Read more

I had the car at 37k miles from an Audi Dealer. I reported problems with the clutch sticking at my first or second service, but nothing was found during the inspection. The clutch failed completely at 55k and was replaced by an Audi garage. 30k miles later the same thing has happened and despite me explaining the history and asking for Audi to look at the root cause, the only answer I got was "it's wear and tear", which presumably implies that I don't drive it properly. I've looked at the forums here and can see my experience is not unique... I paid £1,800 for each clutch - anyone know how I should go about making a claim against the garage or Audi themselves?

Thanks,... Read more

You don't say how long you have had it but it is very doubtful you have a claim against the supplying garage two clutches on.

If there could be shown to be an inherent fault then you may be more lucky with Audi but there is no particular error noted in the model and its a five year old car. My guess is you are going to end up paying this yourself.

Also change the fuel filter if it hasn't been done recently, the fuel becomes more viscous in this very cold weather, that combined with the oil being thicker and low combustion chamber temperatures all conspires against easy starting. If you are only getting 10 or 11 volts on your glow plugs that's a fair indication that they are drawing a fair bit of current - which is good.

On Tues 30th, the RAC recovered my car to take it to the local dealer.

It is now 6 days later, the 6th of December, and the RAC has still not managed to get my car the 18 miles to the local dealer nor able to say when they will manage this simple task.... Read more

What reason have the RAC given to you not not take the car to your dealer? You have to give us some more information.
