Mazda 323 1991/J Hatchback - Tailgate struts not strong enough - stuartl

I have just bought this car as a stopgap. It is in virtually mint condition with full service history and only 52000 genuine miles on the clock!

The only thing that is wrong with it is the hatchback wont stay up. I have looked around but most of these cars disappeared in a pile of rust years ago. Does anyone have an idea where I might be able to get a pair of these, new or secondhand?

Have a look on Ebay at this Item number: 300394384703.

Seems to be for the correct year.

I dont actually think I can warrant paying that though, the whole car only cost just over £200!! I wonder if there are any breaking for spares anywhere.
