Thought I'd vent my spleen!
Got my new wheels ('06 Prius) back in June. Some lowlife keyed it when it was parked on-street overnight within the first week of my owning the car. I moved the car to another street, where, the following night, it was keyed again. Called the Police on both occasions, and since there were no witnesses or CCTV, they couldn't help. Got crime ref numbers from the Police, notified the insurers. Sorted the damage myself, because I didn't want to claim on the insurance. I don't have parking outside my home, so I canvassed the area the next day to see if anyone fancied renting me a driveway. Got a driveway to rent, so it now resides overnight safe on a drive, and I'm £40 lighter every month.
Problem is, my insurance quote has now leapt from £330 to £500+ which is due to the two 'incidents'. Apparently these are logged as 'claims', even though technically I didn't lodge a claim as I chose to remedy the situation myself. Even by securing some off-road parking, my premium has gone through the roof.
So, the moral of this story seems to be that if you're unlucky enough to have your car vandalised, don't bother letting the Police know… It's far cheaper in the long-run!... Read more
I need to remove the cylinder head (with the engine in-car) and so must remove the inlet manifold before getting to remove the exhaust manifold.
Access to all the bolts is very poor, but one of them needs me to remove the EGR unit first, as Haynes says. BUT I am finding it impossible to get a hex key to the front EGR bolt because the inlet manifold is in the way.... Read more
Hi TDC - thanks for the quick reply.
No, I'm not undercover, so fingers are slow and clumsy in current temperatures. I could raise front to work from underneath but am sure won't be able to reach the EGR valve from there, especially its front bolt which is the problem one....

Thanks for both replies. good advice. I have to take the engine support off anyway so I will tilt it and see if I can get the head off with the manifolds.
I got an allen key to it eventually, but the bolt head is a little corrodedand the key does slip, like the socket bit with a UJ. ...

Agree - once reported to the Police, you need to disclose to Ins. Co. - data doesn't rot.
