Hi, my bmw diesel 2003, 92,000 miles has started to smoke excessively when I start it or on idle eg left running for a few minutes, I started it yesterday under the car porch and within 5 minutes it was unbearable and filled the house with smoke! it doesn't smoke once it's warmed up or driving at normal speeds, has anyone got any ideas what it could be? The missus has a 1.6 diesel C4 Grand Picasso. She mentioned that she couldn't move it 'cos the gearbox was frozen. Had a look and sure enough it's very stiff indeed. Obviously it was crazily cold up here yesterday ( -6°C in fact) but surely the gearbox shouldn't freeze should it? The only other thing I was thinking of was a massive gearbox oil leak but I can't see anything underneath. Anyone had this happen themselves or have other plausible explanations ? Ta muchly Read more
Is this model not a cable driven gear change. If so, there is your problem. The oil in the box is just not an issue. Regards Peter
my friend has a gearbox fault. when the select 1st gear and start pulling away the gear box shudders. this only happens in first gear and only when pulling away once on the move its ok. Read more
A friend had a 206 with the same problem you describe. A new clutch didn't help either. That did turn out to be the mounting, so hopefully yours will be ok after tomorrow.
have a pug 206cc and though I know the biting point on these cars is high thats all i know lol!
someone said my clutch needs adjusting but i didnt think these could be????? am i just stupid? i have no problem changing gears but it sometimes 'over revs' when i speed up and feels like its going no where but then settles and the revs go back to normal....is this the cars way of telling me the clutch needs replacing? my foot is virtually off the clutch before it bites. the car has only done 23000. ... hi there, i have a pug 206 on a 1999 reg , and my biting point was right at the top and when i put the the foot to the floor it would rev up but not go anywhere, so like you i thought it might be the clutch on its way out , so i took the gearbox off to check the clutch , but to my suprize , it was'nt the clutch that gone, it was the clutch release bearing was smashed to peices, but the clutch was looking low , so ordered a new clutch kit(which you get the clutch release bearing in the kit) which cost me £85 , but as im fitting it myself , im saving me about £300 as its bit of a buggy to do the clutch, as to take a lot of things off.. hope this helps
HI All!

Just had the gearbox go on the above car, 53000 miles and used carefully. Bought from VW dealership and looked after by them since. VW stating cost of repair up to £2500 and offering only 10% towards costs and labour.
Know I can get a reconditioned one for around £1000, but don't think the gearbox should have gone at such low mileage.... Read more
Is the message finally getting through, some companies do not care about their customers, how they deal with problems a reasonable person would decribe as unreasonable shows which ones don't care.
My heater does not seem to give out much heat, I have checked out the LED reading as the car does not have any temperature gauge fitted, by pressing the settings button waiting for the bleep then pressing the BC button and scrolling through until I come to an LED readout which gives a temperature reading, that I assume is the water temperature, the car never goes above 30 to 45 degrees, (this is only after a 35 min motorwary drive) if this is the water it seems low to me hence no great heat, the blower is working fine, so what could be the problem?
Does anybody know what the usual temperature of the water should be?... Read more
The other thing to look at is a blocked pollen filter - behind glovebox. Changing mine last January doubled the heat output through the vents.
A search of this site indicates that it is a common problem.
I'm not a techie and new to Newbury, so had to take my car to a recommended shop recently when it just would not start without any previous problems. The shop had it for two weeks and have not been able to solve the issue and they don't inspire much confidence. However, by the sound of it, it might be a difficult problem to solve.... Read more
I also urge you to report your problems to VOSA, (as i have done) and to email andrew.nicholls@gmail.com

I'm trying to change the off side dipped beam bulb. The book says to take the headlamp out. I undid the screw on the top and the clips underneath and moved it out a little. Next step is to disconnect the witing plug. It is difficult to access and I cannot see how to extract it.
Is there a locking tab or does it unscrew? Is any one able to give me an idiots guide on how to disconnect the connector?... Read more
Thanks for for taking the time to respond.
I'll have a look at modifying the cables when I have the time and I'm not stood out in our driveway in the dark in the freezing cold like I was when changing the bulb........................
