Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Poor MPG from Berlingo 2.0 HDI - raf35y

Hi all,

I have recently purchaced a Citroen Belingo 2.0 HDI 2003 77,000mls.

It had it's last service (done before I got the car) about 6 months ago (4,000mls).

It starts and runs great but i have done a tank to tank MPG check and found it is only doing 37 mpg, I was expecting high 40s.

I drive with economy in mind changing at around 2500rpm or less if possible. Also the engine does not smoke (on the odd occation it does get reved) nice and clean.

Is there common problems with these engines which would cause this? or anything to check to try and get the MPG up.

Many thanks.

Seems about right. I get 38mpg if all my driving is in town and 40 to 50 on a run but usually 40 if you are going at 70mph or more.

I had the same car 03 plate as well. It would always give me 40 or 41mpg on my once weekly motorway commute - same as the worn out Mondeon 2.0 petrol it replaced! Aerodynamics kill the mpg on it and others of the same ilk; keep it under 60mph and it improves a lot. Take it to 75/80 and low 30's mpg - still it was one of the comfiest cars I've owned.
