VW Golf Plus 1.6 06 reg - Gearbox failure - Pipe and Slippers

Just had the gearbox go on the above car, 53000 miles and used carefully. Bought from VW dealership and looked after by them since. VW stating cost of repair up to £2500 and offering only 10% towards costs and labour.

Know I can get a reconditioned one for around £1000, but don't think the gearbox should have gone at such low mileage.

Any one else had this problem or has any advice?

Thanks,

Gearbox gone at 53000 miles?

A new gearbox at VW expense would be the answer. If the car has been regular serviced by a VW dealership they have no leg to stand on.

If it's out of warranty on a time elapsed basis, VAG will tell you to get stuffed.

659.

Hi, I know this question is now a couple of months old but am very interested to know Pipe and Slippers what the outcome was, did you get anywhere with VW? I have had the same thing happen to me, 06 Golf FSi 2 litre 34000 miles on the clock. I have just paid £2400 for the repair and VW will only offer £500 towards it which is a joke, always been serviced by the VW dealer, VW supposedly relaible cars. I have found online various comments on this and other sites of this happening to both Golf and Skoda Octavias. There was a suggestion that this was an assembly fault which should have been rectified by a dealer on servicing? anyone know anything about that?

Hi Cornish grandad and pipe and slippers

This has just happened to my golf plus too (1.9 tdi, 55 plate) at 50K miles - always VW serviced sincce new. Last year I needed a new flywheel and clutch (at 43K) and this cost me over £1000 and got about £200 back in goodwill from VW after a massive fuss. Took it back this time round and they swear blind that the new problem is nothing to do with last years problem which I am having problems believing ...

I have now taken my car to be repaired at a very nice local VW approved centre as it's much cheaper.

I feel that I should go back to VW and complain but I haven't got the energy and think I'll get nowhere anyway.

This is so depressing as like others here I paid a premium price for a decent brand and have had nothing but expensive problems and no help from VW. I have learnt one thing though - don't buy another VW!

Is the message finally getting through, some companies do not care about their customers, how they deal with problems a reasonable person would decribe as unreasonable shows which ones don't care.
