I'd be more concerned if the towing vehicle had automatic transmission, unless it had an additional transmission cooler fitted and documented evidence of an ATF change at least every two years.

I have also 'bit the bullet' fitted a new 'oil cooler thermostat' this morning. Took it for a 20 mile drive afterwards, temperature gauge reaches the middle at last!

Also noticed during the drive, that the fuel economy has started to improve, its gone from 41mpg, and climbed to around 45.5mpg by the end of the journey.

i have found a cheap and reliable way of repairing my x-trail. the symtoms were as it would suddenly go into limp mode and i would turn off the ingition and back on again and it would be fine for another few miles until it done it again. a nissan dealer told me it wa about €2000 to replace the fuel pump and it would sort out the problem. i took out the fuel pump and i looked at it closely to see how it worked and what could go wrong. on the side of the fuel pump there is a silver switch in a barrel shape held on by two small bolts and this switch is a fuel pressure switch. i found a deisel switch supplier and the switch cost me €93. when i fitted the new switch it had to be programmed by a nissan computer and that cost me €25. the problem is cured and its never happened again in over 50000 kilometers. its a lot cheaper than a whole new pump at €2000. Hi there, I read your message quite some time ago & i'm back again!!

Problem started with same symptoms as yours... going into limp-home mode.. turn off ignition & start again..problem gone.. until next time. It was always a good starter but then it would take a few more cranks in mornings to start & then a few minutes to run sweet. Then i can't quite remember... it either didn't/wouldn't start and/or he changed the fuel filter & it has never started since!! ( By the way,, we're both quite experienced with older diesel engines & mechanical things!!) That was months ago now. We have tried various things but to no avail. Yesterday, still suspecting the low-pressure pump i disconnected the fuel line on the engine side of the filter & tried with ignition on & cranking the engine to see if there was fuel pumping up to the high-pressure pump..... Not a drop!!! Not knowing what is actually meant to happen at start-up i don't know whether this is correct or not!! I suspect that fuel Should be pumping through!! Our trouble is that we are over three hours from nearest city with a Nissan diagnostic machine AND heard stories that machine often doesn't pick up the problem anyway!! Six hour round trip for that does not inspire my father at all.... or me tbh!! We tried the local garages one but it didn't "speak" correctly to the car, so none the wiser!!...

Hi all,

I am new to this forum, and have only been viewing. But i felt the need to pass on some information regarding the sat/nav problems i have been reading about. I ordered my 2.0L diesel/premium/sirius silver/ with media pack in May, and requested a delivery on new regisration day (sept 1st). I was contacted by the dealer in July and asked if I wanted delivery earlier as my car had arrived, I decided to wait until new reg came out though. I realise that I am one of the lucky ones after reading about all the other delivery issues!! Anyway, almost immediately I noticed that the sat nav voice commands seemed to be a little confusing. She could not complete instructions when approaching roundabouts, all i ever seemed to get was " bear left and then", and then nothing.............. it was getting rather annoying, so I called into the dealers to report the problem about 6 weeks ago, and never heard anything back from them. Then last week my whole media system just froze, nothing worked , no radio, no cd player, no sat nav, no reverse parking sensor, it just froze. So after booking my car in, and also telling them about the "bear left and then" issue, I was told that they had other customers with the same problem. Today my software has been updated by the dealer and so far so good, the sat nav is now telling me which exit to take at roundabouts ( yeeha ). I was told that I am the first customer at the dealer to have the upgrade done, it only takes about 15 mins by inserting a dongle into the usb port. So anyone out there with similar issues should take this information along to their local dealer and have the problem rectified.... Read more

I had the same troubles as yourself. I had an upgrade which seemed to resolve this. However there are still big problems with Post Codes and addresses. Half the post codes for Walsall are missing. If you want WS11, it will only accept WS11 1, 2 or 3. It will not accept WS11 4,5,6,7,8,or9. Some house number's are missing from the street's, ie my brother lives at number 393, you can only enter 391, OK it's near enough but it's not right. The blue tooth with the Media Pack is a joke. If you want to ring some one who's name begins with a W or aY the page that comes on the screen begins with A, you then have to say "Page Down, Page Down, Page Down" until you come to the name that you want. All this is while you are driving. There is a Speed Dial which works great, but you can only enter 12 names. A friend of mine also has a ix35 but without the Media Pack. He just says the name of the person he wants to call, he is asked if he wants the persons home, mobile or work. He say's which one and the number is dialed. Brilliant. I have had several other updates, but nothing has worked. Apart from this, I am very pleased with the car.

Honda has finally issued the extended warranty for the rubbish VSA modulator
made by the ultra-NOT reliable German manufacturer. Before this TSB was
announced Honda UK as a gesture of goodwill was paying for the parts and
the customer had to pay for the labour.
Finally Honda and German manufacturer have reached a solution to this issue.

TSB Bulletin No SK-07-007-00 dated 01-11-2010
This is only applicable to i-CTDI engines.
Models Affected
ACCORD 4D CN1 05, 06, 07, 08
ACCORD TOURER CN2 05, 06, 07, 08
CIVIC 5D EV1 05
CR-V RD8 05, 06
CR-V I-CTDI RD9 05, 06
Symptom
VSA light on, DTC 66-1 is stored.
Cause
Open circuit in the VSA modulator pressure sensor due to a production fault at the supplier.
Application: Warranty extension +3 years; mileage up to 62,000 miles
Any high mileage car will not be entertained... So anyone now has suddenly seen this issue, please contact your dealer provided you are with the time frame and mileage.

I have a Honda Accord 2005 diesel with 90000 miles on the clock. When I started the engine the other morning a triangle and the VSA warning light came on and stayed on. Took it to the Honda dealer who done a diagnostic test (£55) and told me the VSA modulator has failed and the part which you can only get from Honda is £1600+Vat+Labour. I phoned Honda UK customer centre and they said as a good will gesture I could have the part for £411+vat+Labour. I pointed out their bulletin (see above which I got from another website) but they said because my car had done high mileage this was their best offer, take it or leave it. If you have a Honda diesel from 2005 onward with less than 62000 miles get the VSA Modulator replaced for free NOW.

Forget honda remove the unit take it to a good electronics shop and they should be able to repair it I am sure you have the equivelant of Conrads or RS the parts are available repaired mine myself with no problems .

Its what most people do in Germany especially on VW/Bmw which go all the time (see HJ report)There is nothing complicated electronically with the unit normally its just a blown diode but you could rebuild the whole unit for a very reasonable amount....

Any members remember the product SLICK I believe it was a graphite based additive, I used to put it in the engine of my old A40 farina and it really made a difference to the feel and performance of the 998cc engine. I don.t know if you can still buy it but probably obsolete now with modern oils.

AFAIK, it was shown that Schlick accelerates engine wear - engines are designed with machined internal surfaces, each providing microscopic opportunity for oil to cling to the surface and provide lubrication to reduce wear - the nature of schlick was to fill those microscopic opportunities and present a smooth surface, good for reducing friction but not for oil retention so not good for subsequent engine wear....

659,

I haven't been on here much lately and I know this post is really old. However, yet again your prediction was correct. The dealer told me a new turbocharger was required. We all know the type of price that was quoted. Thanks for saving me from the wolves ;)

My gigaretter lighter no longer works, im assuming its the fuse and the manual only says the fuse box is located under the glove compartment? (no pictures tho) I've taken a look and its definately not 'under' the glove box i.e beneath, and upon googling, theres lots of info on the older modles fuse box, but not mine -, on the older model it was accessed within the glove box? I suspect mine is too and there are some screws, but they appear to be neither phillips or flat head nor allen key?? Any help please, feel stupid going to a garage just for that! Read more

Access to the cabin fusebox is from below glovebox ,pass footwell area.remove the plastic underdash panel(2 push on clips),there are 2 quick release screws .this will allow the fusebox to hinge down.Fuse for lighter should be #39,20 amp, yellow.hth
