Advice please. If the alloy wheels are stripped and re-painted will this stop the leaks ? (I've tried everything else). Read more
My lhd 406 Hdi has an irritating whine when I select fifth gear and accelerate. When decelerating it stops.
My local mechanic says it is normal and coming from the turbo but I would like another opinion or if someone has experienced this problem and how to rectify it. Read more
Thanks very much Peter for your instant and erudite reply which is much appreciated.
I think your final sentence seems my most prudent approach as the noise is barely audible if I have the radio on.
Had my corsa from new. It is a 54 plate 1.0 engine.
Was working fine for five and a half years then started to leak oil and make a noise in the engine.... Read more
I have only ever owned one corsa.
I looked after this car, checking oil etc, servicing....
Hi - My car suffered a catastrophy recently when the top of the oil filler cap detached when driving and fell down the side of the engine, wrecking the alternator belt which in turn wrecked the timing belt. So now I'm waiting to find out if it is just the head that needs replacement (£1200) or a new engine (£4000+). This obviously shouldn't have happened but the oil filler cap and oil dipstick are collocated on these engines and seem to be a two part design with the top part being able to be unclipped. I've complained to Renault to no avail. Has anyone else had experience of these filler caps coming loose? Trying to gauge whether there is a common problem here. Read more
I wonder if I could get the benefit of collective wisdom on 2 car changes?
At present my wife drives about 6000 miles pa in a 1998 Civic 5dr 1.5vtec. This car has been in my family since it was a demonstrator and has been fantastic to own. Very little unscheduled expense, good fuel economy and 100% reliable. It is also smooth and pleasant to drive, if a little unexciting. However it is now 12 years old, has 120,000 miles on the clock and is getting more than a bit tatty and one day soon will need an uneconomically expensive repair such as clutch or engine mounts. Even if nothing goes badly wrong, it needs a few bits and pieces doing such as trackrod ends, broken door lock, wing & door skin replacement which at garage prices would soon exceed the value of the car.... For 12,000 miles a year I don't think you need a diesel, and as you know older dlesels cn be liable to major, and expensive, failure.
SWMBO had a Civic 2.0 a few years ago and it was good to drive and we often got 40 mpg out of it on a long run. There may not be many 2.0 Type S Civics around though....
My car has just failed its first MOT on the lambda readings, what is this can someone help.

My corsa d has just failed for idle CO emmisons too. How did you fix yours in the end? I cant read the reply you posted above if it had the answer, it seems to have got mixed up in some sort of internet gobbleydegook. Thanks
Hi everyone, Yesterday the top leaf of the rear suspension on my truck snapped.
Today I took it to a garage, they said that the best thing to do would be to fit a complete new set, but that if you are changing one side its best to change the other and all the bushes as well (which I agree with) but this comes to over £500 (which I cant afford). So I called firm which deals with leaf springs specifically, they said that they could supply the top leaf alone but could not fit it, so I asked the first garage if they could do it and they said no, they woundnt know how and doubted they would have the facilities to do so.... If you haven't aready found someone a rural workshop that fixes agricultural equipment would be an ideal place, used to leaf springs and fixing older stuff for farmers cheaply...can't abide seeing farmer's on bike's..;)
A town workshop's staff especially if younger may never have seen a leaf spring, and won't have the foggiest how to replace a single leaf. By the way ignore my suggestion of Roughtrax they specialise in Hilux parts, but Milners will be as good as any if you want complete springs....
My break lights have started flickering. When I brake they work but then randomly flicker on and off. Any ideas what I should check?
Thanks Read more
Thanks for this, I'll take a look.
Moomintroll...
Can anyone help?
My tailgate release and door open indicator light on longer work, and the red alarm light stays on constantly. My husband has checked all the fuses and they are ok. I assume all the problems have one cause as they all happend at the same time.... Read more
IIRC this car does not have remote locking-just double locking and alarm-both set by the key in the lock.Turn it in the unlock direction and then within five seconds to the lock position.Car should then bleep at you.Your problems are more likely to be bad earth on tailgate.Open it and hammer pins in hinge backward and forward-if this does not sort it,then fit a small earth cable between tailgate and body.
After a few posts here re the above car. I have been waiting for an assessor to look at my car and at last he arrived to do this!
I called the workshop a short while ago and apparently the head is cracked and has been sent to wherever to be sorted one way or another.... Read more
Yes, loss of fluid due to the water hose not being connected correctly and probably not even checked on full service before purchase. Unless of course, the fluid came from somewhere else rather than the radiator :)
Malfunction of temperature gauge, therefore no warning of overheating....

Thanks for your response likerocks.
