Hi folks,
A Lexus and Saab (both new) owning friend swears by his local Nationwide Autocentre, after being ripped off by Lexus for servicing (they serviced his car when he took it in for a light bulb change, without asking).... Read more

Re. the article in the HJ colum,n in the Telecgraph date 23 August answering a reader who stood up to aprank callerwanting to work a fiddle about a non-existing accident.
If a prank caller does this can one ring 1471 when they ring off and get their telephone number ? I don't know what to do in that case, but a call to the police might help. Read more
If the "pranksters" are doing this as a serious project for a while, they might be buying a cheap pay-as-you-go mobile to make a few calls on; and then just throw the thing away and get another with a different number
The Clio is a 1.2 51 plate Expression, they've offered me £1700 or £1350 and the car.
It was a no fault accident, someone decided to drive into the side of my car. All the damage is cosmetic.
A large garage has estimated repairs at £1300 so insurers have said it's a write-off. I do not want to keep the car really but equally, if it's restored I know it will sell locally for £2000-£2300 as small cars aren't easy to come by where I live and I've had a quote from a smaller garage to fix it for £700... There ar different catagories of write off according to the damage, I can't remember what they are but I'm sure someone will be along to tell you. If there is no structural damage it shouldn't be a problem.
If no blame is attached to you, I think you could make them repair it, I can't understand why they would give you £1700 if the repairs are only going to cost £1300 - I would ask if I were you.
Have any other Honest John readers had the same problem as me?

Berlingo 2.0hdi (June 2002) 90bhp got a bad misfire, sounds like running on 3 , has siemens injection system, had new injection pump 8 months ago, have changed fuel filter, we seem to have very little pressure out of the high pressure side of the injection pump to the common rail, have removed feed pipe from common rail , seem to have very little fuel delivery out of pump when cranking.Could it be electronic problem with pump, ie partially opened solenoid, or could pump be faulty. Yes it was done at citroen, but through previous owner, not us. Does anyone know of a code reader /fault finder that would be compatible with the berlingo?
What exactly are they trying to say?
"sick of aggressive drivers trying to get you out of the way -- considerate drivers get a big discount on car insurance -- aggressive ones don't".
So -- "aggressive" drivers have automatically had accidents, and the "considerate" ones (who evidently hold people back on motorways) haven't? Drivers who sit on the right-hand lane at 68mph (which is the only bunch that seem to fit the profile on the ad) are the drivers they're after?... Read more
Volatility of the generated profits is the key. Less risky drivers implies steady and less volatile returns (it's also easier to determine the risk premium).

Hi all. My brain hurts so bad so I’m posting on here in the hope someone will help it stop. I apologise in advance for transferring the brain-ache and / or if this has already been covered somewhere else.
To summarise, my last two cars have been semi-automatic gearboxes (1st one a Renault Clio Quickshift, 2nd a Citroen C3 Sensodrive) and both have been spectacularly, almost outstandingly unreliable, almost killed me on several occasions and ended their sorry lives as part ex’s that went for peanuts. A close friend of ours is a mechanic and has told me in no uncertain terms, never to get another semi-auto again as long as I live. The next one he says very directly, MUST be a full auto (I only have license for automatic)... Read more
Hi I've just seen an 04 focus i'm interested in at a local dealer, I've been told that the service history has been lost , I have seen the last MOT whch was done at a local main dealer and the main dealer's name is on the number plates.
So I was wondering if i buy the car can i get in touch with the main dealer and obtain copies of the service history. Read more
I would give the main dealer a call before you buy the car.Or asked the local dealer to do this for you.If the car is main dealer serviced they should have a record of the car.You are the customer i'ts your money.

Had a repair done on the Focus to replace the clutch master cylinder (warranty repair, and NA were the authorised repairer). Took it in at 9am, done at 12.30 (they did not know up to 9am the nature of the fault), job well done and car well presented.
Seemed a decent, efficient service to me.
