Help please!! My engine light has come on and test showed it is the egr valve. I just discovered the small hose on top of the valve was split in two. would this cause the engine light to come on and if so will it go off now that the hose is replaced or do i need to get it turned off. the car is a 2litre tdci

Yes it will cause the engine light to come on and while you are at it clean the egr out.

i.m going to france in 10 days time via dover/dunkirk. been looking at the regulations over there and noticed radar / speed camera detectors are strictly forbidden. not in the habit of exceeding speed limits but have disabled the warnings on my tom tom. i was wondering what is to stop some bolshie cop from assuming my sat nav is warning active and fining me anyway? all comments on this and other french motoring tips appreciated. tia, jag. Just a update driving in France the police are stopping a lot of foreign cars at the moment ,this was mentioned on a radio program.Carry a warning triangle in the boot the gendarmes are asking for it and the high viz jacketts on your seat not in the boot.Hazard warning lights is not a excuse you can have a electrical failure on your car.And headlight reflectors not a bit of tape for the sake of a few quid .The fines are high.

Hello, would be grateful for an opinion. Whilst on holiday with my car a 2003 Peugeot 406 hdi 90hp, the passenger side front suspension collapsed. I had a local garage fit new coil springs & struts/shock absorbers on both sides of the car. There is now a very noticeable gap between the top of the front tyres and the wheel arch, about 4 inches on the off side & 4.5 inches on the near side of the car. The garage are telling me that the suspension will have to "bed in" and that the car will lower in a couple of weeks with driving. I have checked the part numbers that were fitted against the manufactureres website (KYB Europe) and the parts fitted correspond with the age and model of the car. I happened to meet the local AA man who had towed the car to the garage, he was very surprised at the height of the car. I'm just wondering if there is any truth in what the garage are telling me that the car should lower itself in a few weeks or are they palming me off, why should there be such a gap, the cars appearance has changed & looks odd, though it drives & handles OK. Thanks for any replies, Tonyredz. Read more

I have a Mazda 6 Turbo on a 54 plate with 79K on the clock. I've only had the car approx 7 weeks and have had to return to the garage i bought it from (thankfully under warranty) The problems started with a very high pitched "whirring" sound, almost like a siren which i now understand was the faulty turbo. The car actually broke down on my way back to the garage, it had a complete loss of power and was billowing out clouds of white smoke. Although the engine didn't actually cut out i pulled over and waited for a tow truck.

My concern now is that the garage will just "patch" up the problems and only do the minimum work leaving me with more problems in the future. They have told me it was caused by a faulty Turbo and they have sent the turbo away to be fixed. Is this correct ? Should it be fixed or should a new turbo be fitted ? Are there any other common problems caused by this happening that i should insist the garage check before i get the car back ? I have requested a full written report on the problems and all the work done on the car so that i can have an independant mechanic check the work . Any advice would be great. Read more

Turbo vanes may have contacted the housing putting metal fragments into the air ducting & intercooler. These will need a thorough clean or these fragments may find their way into the engine.

Does this have a DPF, if so the oil strainer may be partially blocked & caused lack of oil to the turbo causing the initial problem.

Just started getting intermittent ignition problems. Sometimes starts like a dream. Other times doesn't seem to recognise the key. Anyone else got this. What did you do? Read more

I had a job on a car where I removed the ignition key form the car and the ignition light stayed on, I disconnected the battery, but couldn't find the fault. Has anyone got any idea what could be wrong with this car as I am totally baffled! Read more

If you read HJ's review its states that the ignition barrell can become faulty and basically fall to bits, Requires new inginition barrell + labour a near £500 jobs. This could be a cause looking into as they were made from cheap plastic.

I would take it in, The longer it goes on the worse it could get....

Hi all,

II'm looking to buy a motorhome, however I need some advice regarding fitting a childseat into the rear seats.... Read more

WellKnownSid

It depends on the age of the child and the type of seat. Some car seats of certain age ranges are designed to be fitted to lap belted seats, but others aren't. Are the chairs normally forward facing during travel?

I would guess it's a case of risk management. A child in a car with a lap belt only would probably be far more vulnerable than a child in a motor home in a similar crash - where there would be much greater impact absorption and they'd be higher / further back....
