I am looking at an Audi A3 2 litre diesel 56 plate (Jan2007) at the main dealers. It is priced around the £12.5k mark. Has anyone any recent experience of trying to negotiate some cash off the price at the AUDI Main dealers. I understand the V5 does not show a cat d write off, so if buying a suitably repaired cat d write off, what if any are the disadvantages? Also Tesco say they do not insure previous write offs and that cover would fail in the event of a claim - how would they know and are all insurance companies the same?? Read more
Write offs are registered on a database for all insurance companies to see. It's up to individual companies to decide whether they wish to insure them and at what price.

Yes.....there are some signs of leakage on the n/s shock but nothing major. My local tyre specialist does employ a lot of trainee's and this may be the cause of the jacking problem.... probably no joy going down that road then?

im new to the forum had my golf scanned and the scanner come up with the following error codes;
01336 data bus for comfort system sporadic - defective
01330 central control module for central convenience (j393) sxporadic no communication
ive been told need to buy a comfort control module which is located inside right hand side dash edge by the fuses, is this correct? anyone else had these error codes?

as already stated these can be quite common, they can sometimes even be caused by a scanner being plugged in. Has the car been fitted with an aftermarket radio ? or is it the original ?
When engaging 5th gear a minor but annoying whine starts and continues if I press the acelerator and stops when I decelarate. My local mechanic tells me it is turbo noise and perfectly normal! I would be interested in anyone's opinion and how I can rectify. Read more
You need to ascertian whether it is only doing it in 5th or whether you can only hear it in 5th because the car is quieter. If its only doing it in 5th it will be gearbox noise, probably a bearing. If its turbo whine the pitch will vary according to the throttle opening, if you ease off the pedal the pitch will drop as the turbo slows.

When we tow a caravan with the car I have always noticed that after a long jouney 4 hours small flecks of a sooty oily substance all over the front of the caravan. The issue as gradualy got worse until now the flecks are noticable after 30 mintues and after 4 hours the caravan is covered in the material.
The car has been to a few garages and all have looked at the car checked the emisions and test drove the car and said there is nothing wrong, but it is now impossible to tow the caravan.... Read more
I belevie the fragmants must be from the exhaust as the end of the exhaust is much blacker than two other ford I drive with the same engine.
Hello, first time here and just looking for some advice. I was driving my Avensis 2.0 CDX (V reg) yesterday when suddenly I heard a bang and then a lot of rattling from the engine. I immediately pulled over and when I got out of the car I noticed lots of oil under the car dripping onto the floor. I phoned my car rescue firm and they told me that a rod had gone down through something and basically there was nothing he could do so he towed me home. I am no mechanic and don't claim to know much about the workings of a car engine. My questions are simple. Does this sound repairable and if so what would I possibly be looking at having done (engine wise and money wise). If not how much would I be looking at to have a new engine fitted (bearing in mind I could not do this myself so would need a garage). Obviously I do not expect an exact figure but a rought estimate would be helpful. The engine had done 135,000 when it broke. Any help would be most appreciated. Read more

As a simple check,open bonnet and run engine with a/c switched on .After a minute or so ,touch the 2 aluminium pipes that run along next to the right front wing edge.One pipe should be hot and the other cold.If this is the case then the a/c is probably ok and as suggested there could be a fault with heater valve.hth

I was about to buy a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 DTI Esate diesel (60MPG) then found out from this forum that the engine seizes at high milege. I had not idea. So I didnt go ahead with purchase.
