I would like to know if I can use a second hand immobiliser for a 'S' reg Vauxhall Astra 1.6 and have it re-coded to my car immobiliser. The problem I have is my transponder on my key for my car is beyond repair and is not returning the signal from my immobiliser thereby stopping the car from starting. I would like to know if I can get a second hand vauxhall transponder and have it coded for my car or would I need to buy a new transponder? If someone could help me out with this please as I would like to save some money and it is the only thing stopping me from actually using my car.

Had a cambelt failure on my 1997 AstraVan 1.7. It’s the old GM low blow (X17DTL engine).

Was just wondering if it’s possible to determine if any valves are bent without removing the head. I know on this engine that valve damage is very likely but am hoping I might have been lucky and avoid taking the head off.... Read more

Hey how do you go about using a strobe to adjust the pump timing? I gone over heaps of info, but never heard of that being done on the X17DTL before, only using a dial gauge (which of course I don't have).

Mine turns over OK and will run (poorly) with diesel start stuff sprayed into the turbo, but wont fire up. I noticed diesel staurating one of the leak-off tubes which were are fairly new and were nice and dry previously....

I visited my local dealer today to take one for a test drive. Got a decent trek on some different roads, some twisty, some town, then a blat up a dual carriageway for about 5 miles.

It's a great little beast... comes with every toy under the sun as you can tell except for sat nav (tho I've got a tomtom already... not too fussed). Strong case against the Kuga - similar spec Kuga would be approx 25,500 - against 20,777 for the Kia. With 7yr warranty too... Also, we'll see how realistic 47mpg claimed is... on the test drive I got 39 although the engine was cold to begin with, I had the AC on, and I was pushing the car a bit once we got going to see what it was like....

3.0 litre v-6 petrol, showing low compression on number 1 cylinder, spoke to a couple of people and they suggested the cheaper option first with an engine flush and then an oil change, which i have done, other than that its a costly bill for a strip down, timing belt was changed at 65k so thats ok, now done 97k, any ideas people, thanks in advance, wattie. I suspect this is a BBJ engine code and there are no rocker arms it uses hydraulic tappet buckets. A sticking valve is either excess carbon on the valve stem, a failed bucket, a broken valve sprint or debris in the head. Can you tell be which cylinder is the valve sticking and is it inlet or exhaust and confirm or supply the engine code. Regards Peter

Hello ! I'm urgently trying to make contact with anyone who would own a Renault 21 estate car, possibly a Savanna from the early 90's onwards. It's for some filming purposes for BBC Northern Ireland. Please e-mail me on jeremy.shields@bbc.co.uk or jeremy_shields@hotmail.com and I can give you some more details! Thanks a lot! Read more

Hi. I have a 59 plate Picanto and I'm sure the instrument panel (Speedo and fuel dials) used to light up even if the main headlights were off. So say I was going through a long tunnel, the dials are light up just enough to see them and I don't get done for speeding. Well they don't light up now? My Boyfriends thinks I'm mistaken and that it never did light up a little. Am I losing the plot or does my new car have a fault?

Kia have not responded (helpful!). Can any other newbie owners help me out here it's driving me mad.... Read more
