Hi
My car is making a loud whirring/rubbing sound, it increases with road speed and lessons slightly with the clutch pressed. It's also a lot worse when turning right.... Read more
Hi,
I have the mis-pleasure of my cam belt snapping again and causing £££'s worth of damage. I only had it replaced 2 years ago....... Read more
Wouldn't have thought you'd be able to argue sub standard if it lasted 2 years. Have you got a receipt which states what exactly was changed? If the tensioners weren't changed then you have no comeback. If they were changed, well its a grey area. Technically its out of warranty, so you're still on your own. However, you may be able to get some goodwill from the garage. Arguing faulty, if its a Gates belt that was fitted will mean normally a Gates inspector coming to inspect the car. They're that confident in the product. However, he may be able to see if its been fitted properly. Then you may have an argument. But on the whole I think you'll struggle. These 16v engines need a cambelt kit every 36000 miles AT THE LATEST. They're just a carp design.
I need a diesel for £3-4k and I have my eye on a number of 2.0L Mondeo TDCis at the moment: all 2002-2005 and between 70 and 100k mileage.
What routine servicing should have been carried out at, say, 70k/5 years? Am I right in thinking this car is timing chain equipped, but that the tensioners need replacing at certain intervals? Anything else to look out for/check?... Read more
Hi there,
Second attempt at posting this question so apologies if it's duplicated!... Read more
Hi
Almost certainly the pump on a C5. It's on the side of the tank right up inside the front OS wing. To get at it you need to remove the front bumper. Take out every screw you can see underneath the bumper and the bumper sort of 'unslots' from a slot in the front wings by pulling gently forward (not as difficult or scary as you might imagine!) Pull back the plastic wing liner inside the wheelarch too.The plastic engine undertray will need to be dropped too....
I can't think of a German group car that I've been in which hasn't had hard seats. My father in law had a Golf and we also hired one to do a long journey in once and they both had hard seats. We went for a test drive in a Skoda Octavia 4x4 and after half an hour we couldn't wait to get back in our Freelander.
We changed my wife's car recently for a new Skoda Fabia and as that is only used for the daily 15 mile each way commute it's not too bad. We used it to go to the airport when we were going away this year and that was 150 miles, after 50 miles it was uncomfortable.
For long journeys and the winter we use my car, Honda CR-V, and that is still comfortable after a 400 mile plus drive as were the two Freelanders we had prior to that. We have rented SUVs in the US and they have seats like armchairs, really comfortable. They still had plenty of lumbar support so no back problems.
I have also seen on other forums complaints about BMW seats being hard. So are all German car seats hard and if so why? Read more
When i bought my first Golf in 1994 the salesman told me the reason for the "firm" seats was to prevent "submarining" (i think) to stop you sliding below the lap belt in the event of an accident.
Hi there
I don't thing the Astra is a bad choice at all. I've driven scores of these vehicles as hire cars through work and I quite like them. They are a comfortable, refined and straightforward proposition. Only drawbacks I can think of are fiddly buttons for the heater and stereo and a lack of storage space for bits and bobs. And the bizarre indicator stalks, but I would compromise that. Go for at least Club spec to ensure full set of airbags and air con....
my isuzu trooper with 90,000 km milage, has been a very reliable and comfortable vehicle for me, but with gasoline prices as it is now, i am thinking of converting to lpg. does anybody have any experience with such a convertion. tartarini kits are available in the manila are they any good? what about the issues regarding valves, valve seats, and cyloinder haead gaskets? May be worth taking to a gearbox specialist for a second opinion. I think you'll struggle to get anything out of MB because of its history.
