Hi, i had an issue with my fiesta recently, it was randomly over heating, and the temperature of the heater inside the car was also whatever it decided to be at the time, i wasn't losing coolant or oil, and both were clean from one another. Some times i could do 100 miles trouble free and another i'd do 5 miles and the temp gauge would hit red and coolant would be bubbling away.

I changed the thermostat £9, flushed the system, and re-filled the coolant £10 and that never fixed the problem.... Read more

Mine`s been doing the same.Previous owner replaced the plastic-degraded heater control unit in the bulkhead recess and didn`t purge the system of air .They released the expansion tank cap when hot several times to get the temp gauge reading normal(not recommended unless you really know what you`re doing!)

I take possession of said vehicle and all is well for a couple of thousand miles until one day tootling along at sixty on a B-road half-way into my 30-mile journey home there was a horrible burnt plastic smell.I half expected to see flames come out of the dash and suspected an electrical fire. Then 3mins later I was hit with a wave of intense heat from the vents....

Good luck with this project - you'll need it! My experience with an otherwise excellent VW dealership (Martins Group) is that any mention of 'problems' and they shut up like a hungry clam in extreme denial. Pain of being immersed in old sump oil, no doubt. Quite possibly a condition of retaining their franchise.

hello
my car is a saxo 1999.
which of the 3 relays above the fusebox is the one for the heated rear window.
is it the first one,i say this as there is a hole there.i think someone has tried to plug in the relay and pushed the plug through.if this is the case how do i get the plug out to plug in my relay.
another question for the same car.
sunshine roof,it leaks.i have been told there are outlets on each corner of the sunshine roof,
these get blocked up and need "rodding" is this the case, and can you talk me through what to do.
regards
richard

My son does not have a passport, driving licence, benefit book, utility bills(lives at home) nor any of the usual forms of ID required by officialdom. He has a job, payslips, P60, student loan docs, security photo ID from his work, bank statements etc all of which are apparantly not acceptable to the jobsworths that seem to run our world. It is very frustrating trying to prove to some clerk, with the IQ of the ambient room temperture, that you are the very person stood before them. When the jobsworth was asked if he had any ID to prove who he was he could not produce any. All my son wanted to do was open a savings account for his holidays. There must be a simple way we can all have our own ID card, not an official government one. Just a simple passport photograph( preferably with a smile) endorsed by say a GP, Policman, JP etc etc. Good enough for HM passport office.Laminated at home and there for all who need to see it. Instead of all this cloak and dagger nonsense just to open a bank account or the like. Why is life so complicated for these people. There motto is 'Why make life diifcult, when with a bit of effort we can make it downright impossible' Rant over. Sensible suggestions very welcome. Concrete. Read more

Did you just make a sworn statement to say who you are, without having to prove it with documentation? Almost back to square one!

Hello - this problem concerns a Ford 1.8 diesel turbo-intercooled engine, but whilst I'm posting under the Escort heading, it's actually fitted as OEM equipment to an agricultural vehicle; however as far as I can tell the installation closely matches a typical car job ( the only difference is that there is no ECU).

The problem is starting - from cold the engine fires up well, and for 5 to 10 seconds runs and revs up okay to my ears, but then starts to run very irregularly and soon stops. It then doesn't start , or runs very badly, until it has been left for a while, and then it runs and stops as before; this suggests fuel starvation ( of course ?) but I can't find any blockages. Most of the pipework is new, the tank has been cleaned, a new filter fitted and its holder cleaned; the only thing I can think is whether there is a small filter in the Lucas injector pump ( type F18.1TC1.10 ) body that is cunningly hidden from casual view.... Yes, I tried that, with no luck - there was no vacuum when I removed it, and testing the return fuel pipe showed there was air escaping.

It probably is the pump at fault, and it will proably need cleaning. Thanks for your suggestion....

Does anyone know if the aircon has a failsafe system that stops it operating if all the gas has escaped preventing it from damage? If it has then this could be why the fan doesn't come on and has nothing to do with the leak.

I'm now thinking that the coolant leak occurs all the time but is very small and that, when I stop, the coolant that has sprayed all over the engine drains onto the floor and gives the impression that it only occurs at the end of a journey.

Anyone any ideas?

I sell cars on the internet and relly on superior photographs to draw attention to my adverts, I've been using a Fuji Finepix A605 which is probably about 6 years old and it's been taking crystal clear pictures filled with vibrant colour. Yesterday it finally packed up so I bought a Fuji Finepix J28 and it's nowhere near as good as the old one, the pictures are dull and slightly blurred, and are curved as though they're being viewed on a bubble. What setting do I need to be on to get the results I need? I'm on 03M quality as they have to be of e-mailable size, I can't use a flash as I get too much glare back from number plates and reflectors. Thanks, John. Read more

If you do import pictures from your camera with the highest resolution settings, you can compress them using the Image Resizer PowerToy from Microsoft. Download the PowerToy from Microsoft's website - it's a really simple tool. Once you've installed it onto your computer, right click on the thumbnail of the image you'd like to compress in Windows Explorer and select Resize Pictures. You can adjust the amount of compression to suit your needs.

Just bought this car from the in-laws as its very low mileage and regulary service etc. Just had some torrential rain yesterday and water is coming into the cabin from the headlining around the map lights/sunroof controls. It also seems to be coing in somewhere near the back of the drivers head.

We used to have a Mondeo Mk1 estate that leaked from a break in the rear screen washer line as it passed over the lining. The kids thought it was a hoot when they got showered in the back seat! This happened in my mate's Mondeo estate as well; he didn't see the funny side of it and hasn't driven a Ford since.
