I was in the front passenger seat travelling in the left hand lane of a busy road when a driver travelling in the middle lane suddenly pulled across us into the left hand lane. How my partner managed to brake just short of impact I'll never know, but he did, with about a cm to spare.
The other driver proceeded to verbally abuse us, then jumped out of his car and tried to get my partner to get out of the car. He seemed oblivious to what he had done. At this point I phoned the police and basically gave a running commentary of what was occurring. The guy was so aggressive, but calmed down once I pointed out the cctv cameras.... Read more
Please Help,
My fiesta's oil warning lamp keeps flickering. Oil level is fine, 1st thing i checked. Where is the pump? how do i see if it's working, sticky switch or any other ideas?... Read more
The switch is cheap, replace that. If that makes no difference - don't drive the car! Could be oil pump, pickup strainer blocked, pressure relief value knackered, try changing the oil filter - especially if it's a cheapo non Ford one as if it's the type with a bypass valve it could be stuck open. Of course it could also be a knackered engine!
Hi. There are 2 relays in the engine bay between the nearside head light and the fuse box, they are in the wire loom and housed in grey connectors. One has burnt out can you tell me their function please?
Thanks John Read more
I have always thought that in general, to change a clutch and release bearing the gearbox has to come out, but I've seen references to doing this without removing the gearbox. Is this possible on a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 petrol made in 1991? If so, can anyone give me an idea how to do it? I have some knowledge abour car repair work but so far, all I've done on this car is fit a new alternator (car belongs to my daughter).
Any information would be much appreciated....................... Jim (aka combwork). Read more
Thanks again 659. Much appreciated.
Unless the accelerator is released well before the clutch is dipped there is a rise in engine speed when changing gear. This leads to jerky gear changes. I have cleaned the throttle body and the idle control valve. Do the Backroomers have any ideas why this is happening. I can live with it but would prefer to fix it. Read more
Could also be caused by an air leak on the inlet system somewhere assuming the 1997 era FI system isn't new enough to shut the fuel off on a closed throttle. Spray around the inlet manifold and various inlet hoses with WD40 with the engine warmed up and ticking over a stuttering or faltering tickover as the WD40 is ingested indicates a leak somewhere.
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some knowledge on the procedure on how to replace the alternator on my car!... Read more

I have read the problems you are having with the Previa. From what you have described the problem to be, the following, in the order listed, is what I would do/check initially:
1) I would replace all ignition components. I have found this to be good practice on vehicles of that age and vehicles that run the old distributor and rotor arm systems. ...
I've noticed that many dealers are offering very long warranties. Some are 5 years, one is 7 years, and one is now doing a 100,000 mile lifetime warranty.
A lot of people sell their cars after just a few years because they think it's going to start costing lots of money. I wonder whether these warranties will make any of these people keep their cars for longer? Replacing a 3 year old car seems like a big waste if it has another 2+ years warranty. I suspect these people will still continue to replace their cars every few years though. Read more
And this is why the bigger manufacturers have been slow to react to the challenge of the Koreans over the last few years.
Very few buyers of "mainstream" cars keep them very long. Most sold are to fleets, or company car buyers. Such buyers don't care about warranties beyond three years. Ford et al reacted to Mitsubishi offering 3 years because few people only keep cars a year, so the two extra years counted for something....

Problem solved!
Disconnected the car battery. Put ignition key in and turned it to position 2. Reconnected the battery.
All systems working as normal.
I saw this comment on a forum earlier
"Yeah, everyone who drives a car probably trusts their own ability more than that of a coach driver."
Someone also told me that because I drive coaches, that I am banned from the outside lane IN MY OWN CAR and restricted to the same speed as the coach because I would not be competent at typical third lane motorway speeds in my own car. Is this true? Read more
As a long time heavy goods driver I have to say that coach drivers have my admiration too.
I know a coach drivers 'load' will walk on and off and not need a fork lift or strapping down, but it continually moves about during the journey and makes a noise....

It is possible to claim for an injury resulting from a near miss but it helps greatly if you have independent evidence or a witness.
In this case there is likely to be a dispute over liability - which would not affect your claim - but could affect who you claim against.
Were both insurers to accept that your injury resulted from the near miss then the issue of liability for the accident would need to be resolved and any personal injury compensation you receive will be dealt with on that basis.
If you and your partner can show the other driver was 100% at fault then they will be liable to compensate you for your injury.
