hi. Had problem with my vectra. i do hope i can get help here, because, so far, garages etc have cost me around £750 and fault still don't work. It was ok, till i took car for a mot. after that, the car would misfire. I could not drive car over 30 miles per hour. the car judders, i would say, impossible to drive. When it was in its juddering stage, i found if i pulled out slightly, one of the ht leads and wiggle, the engine would rev up, then be fine. now, when you wiggle it, it revs up, but still goes straight back to how it was. ok, i had new spark plugs fitted, full set. new coil pack fitted. Air filter changed. compression check done. Was fixed up to Diagnostic machine. no faults. had this mecanic look at it, said he knew the problem. the clutch was going. £300 later, was ok getting it home, then the same. It feels, when you try and drive it, that the engine is just not getting some thing, fuel or some thing. its now sitting on my drive. when brother borrowed a machine to conect car to, it was saying it could not find the car, check the connection. Machine is not faulty as he then joined up to his car and that worked then. Really cant afford any more to throw at the car for fixes that don't fix the car. other half is telling me to sc*** it. but i loved that car, any adivice ( apart from getting rid of wife) Read more

What do you mean by "unleaded"?

Ask your mates if they know any good garages, on no account take it to a main dealer. Little back street place would be the best choice, someone who isn't going to rip you off, ask him to have a look at it while stressing it's an old car and you don't want to actually spend any money....

Daughter has 1999 Peugeot 206, recently had to have gearbox work undertake. She’s noticed the rev counter now gives erratic readings. Garage says it’s probably faulty, does she need it if not don’t waste money having it repaired!

Any one had trouble with rev counter in this age & model? Read more

I have tried various windscreen washes over the years and never found anything effective. I have now discovered Autoglym Car Screen Polish. It is quick and easy to use. No more streaks - the rain and dirt float off. It is not expensive either - £5 currently buys a decent sized bottle. I keep it in the car so that I can clean the screen at any time without needing water and washleather. Fantastic product. Read more

Lidl's version a capful of which added to your washer bottle works wonders too and about a 5th of the price.

My 2003 diesel car lost power on the motorway. Engine was still running. After stopping on the hard shoulder for a few moments the car started ok. This has happened twice now in the last month. It had a full service and cam belt change December 2009. Does anyone know what this could be? Read more

Hi. What is the law on 3.5t and 7.5t gross box vehicles,in relation to motorway third lane use.
, for example :

The right-hand lane of a motorway with three or more lanes MUST NOT be used (except in prescribed circumstances) if you are driving

* a goods vehicle with a maximum laden weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter
* a goods vehicle with a maximum laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes

Does this mean that a fully laden 3.5t box vehicle, weighing exactly 3.5t or under ,can use the third lane.
And that a fully laden 7.5t box vehicle weighing exactly 7.5t or under can use the third lane,if they are not speed limted. Read more

Hi I have a nissan almera 2003 N16 and the remote central locking fob is inop ( very common problem ) was just wondering if anyone knew how i would tell if another was compatable to be programmed to my vehicle? It has 6A-326 stamped on it. Ebay seems to be the only place to get ahold of one cheap but i would need to know what would be compatable? maybe a 4A would work? Thanks. Read more

Hi , i have a 95 pug 405 1.9td estate that has been making a sort of howl noise that gets higher in pitch as the engine revs become higher, the noise starts at 2,000 rpm onwards, i believe it may be a loose of broken hose somewhere along the system although my local mechanic has said he has checked it all, but i dont believe him, could it possibly be a turbo problem instead although i can hear it whistle up, hope someone can help thanks in advance Read more

I took my car to a garage I've been using for many years for a standard MOT. On the whole I am happy with the service they provide and have not had any complaints. Today, I went to collect my car and paid almost £400 for work completed mainly on the exhaust. When I got into my car, I noticed a large crack on the driver side of the windscreen which was certainly not there when I took my car in originally. I went and alerted the receptionist in the office who sent out a mechanic to have a look. He denied knowledge of the crack in the windscreen and said that the MOT would not have been passed if they'd seen it and that it must have happened while it was sitting on the forecourt awaiting collection.

Cracks in the windscreen do not just suddenly materialise and I am certain something was dropped on it. He told me that I should check my insurance to see if I have windscreen cover/ excess. I assumed that seeing as the crack occurred on his premises, while the car was in his care, he would just replace it especially as I had just forked out almost £400 for the MOT.... Read more

Thank you all for your advice. The situation has now been resolved as they accepted liability and replaced the windscreen free of charge.
