Just looking at used examples of the Is 250 convertible on autotrader, all 30 are in the hands of Lexus dealers, cheapest at £30k. You can get a new one from drivethedeal for £4k more than an 09 plate with 20k miles or £2k more than a 10 plate with 10k miles.

Seems like an unreasonably low level of depreciation - are they trying to stimulate the new market by holding onto the very thin supply of these (you would think) unsellable-at-the-price used examples? Read more

What are you trying to say do you want to buy one if so go to an agents and make them an offer,if its just an observation its meaningless most second hand cars of that age and value are in the hands of main dealers and the price is law of supply and demand as it is with any product .

Once I've got a suitable family car sorted out then I've got an opening for a second car that can be garaged for most of the time, but is needed at the weekends and for occasional trips. Because of the occasional use I want minimal depreciation, and because I might have to take one or two kids occasionally it has to have rear seats (shame). Because of the once a week use I'd prefer something that's reliable, but the fuel efficiency doesn't matter too much. I live in Scotland, with terrible pitted roads, so don't want anything too insane - no supercars! Ideally don't want to spend more than £6-7k

It'd be nice if I could get something that I really liked and was interesting, that had something other than being a tool. I've got quite a wide range of what i think is interesting, ranging from Audi A2 through to Jag XJ (DB7 would be nice, but don't think that I can bear to spend £15k+), and lots in between.... With a Mini and a Jaguar XJ both on your list, it might help you if you think what specifically you want your fun car to do. In my case, it had to be a convertible (I've got an old Z3) as my Octavia does everything else I need and is itself fun to drive.

So short or long journeys? Town or country? Fast and furious or relaxed? Large or small? Etc.

Getting bored of the Volvo S80 (2.5T) after 3 years, went to test-drive a used C70. It was the C70 2.4 petrol manual (168bhp), which felt disappointingly underpowered compared to what I'm used to, although it wasn't terrible. Wasn't keen on the pale blue either, was more effeminate than I was expecting....

We only do about 5k miles per year so not too concerned about fuel economy.... Read more

reporting back on this, have test-driven the Eos (2.0T) now too. Much better than the C70 in handling and power. Also quite smooth even on the 18" low-profile wheels.

However interior specs betray the fact that the car is basically a Golf GTI convertible - they don't match up the Volvo, and the base model really puts the poverty into poverty spec.

Could the rise in the availability of previously installed airbags be due to garages jumping to the conclusion that a unit is faulty rather than following the fault tree. Companies specialising in the resolution of SRS warning lights problems usually find that the fault lies elsewhere in the circuitry; such as a faulty connector. Replacing the airbag requires a remaking of the connector [and so curing the fault] so there should be a full wiring check beforehand replacing the airbag. To confirm that the old airbag was the cause of the SRS light the old airbag should be reinstalled. Read more

Hi I wanted to use ebay to find a second hand air bag deactivate switch for my ford focus. Is this OK or is there a risk of any kind to using it once purchased?

Hi,

I'm thinking about purchasing a new car at an auction (probably a BCA one) and was looking at getting a Golf 1.9 TDI 105. I've looked everywhere for past prices but had no luck so just wondered if anyone can tell me what sort of money they go for at auction? Was thinking 2006 on and either Match or SE trim (preferably Match). Not too fussed by mileage as I don't do a lot myself but under 70000ish would be nice or would you think this was too high? In your opinions is this a good engine? Would prefer DSG transmission but not too fussed if it's gonna add a lot to the cost? Or do you think manual would be better? Was hoping to spend somewhere between £5000 and £6500 which I imagine is a bit too hopeful for what I've asked for but in no rush so can wait for a bargain to come along. ... Read more
