Hi all,
First time so apologies for my distinct lack of knowledge.
I am having serious problems with a 54 Polo 1.2E central locking. If you go to unlock the car from the drivers side intermittently it will unlock the drivers door but not the passenger side. Conversely if you lock via the drivers door, the drivers door locks fine but you can see the latch drop on the passenger side but it doesn't "secure" even though it appears locked. (when it "secures" you see the latch drop and then kind of resettle with a distinct noise from the motor if that makes sense!)
It seems at random points this will just pop open which has resulted in us coming back to the car after it appears to lock to find the passenger door unlocked and the car short of a satnav and ipod.
We have also discovered that this seems to affect the petrol cap as well, you get out the car at the stattion ti find the cap is locked. It seems it can sometimes be remedied by going round to the passenger door and relocking/unlocking but its making it really unsafe to leave now.
Our local VW garage wnats the standard first diagnosis fee of £100 before anything is done.
Can anyone shed any light on what it might be so I don't go to the garage completely blind and make myself a prime target for a mugging by VW.
Sorry to amble and I hope this makes some sense!
Thanks
