August 2010
I have an August 03 model and currently have Goodyear Excellence tyres allround; size 225/55 ZR16 Speed rating 95W. These tyres have been on the car since I bought it in June 2009, and they now need replacing.
Is this the best tyre for this car or are there suitable alternatives? Read more
Quick question...
Does anybody think that brake pads / discs from the dealer are superior to branded parts such as mintex / ferodo etc.... Read more
There is no possibility your mates 'Mintex' were counterfeit pads? There are such things and not always obvious from their appearance.
I know that attempts to overturn speeding convictions on the grounds of "infringement of human rights" etc have generally failed, but has anyone ever successfully subsequently sued on the grounds that some speed cameras deliberately discriminate between different classes of road users?
To my (non-legal) mind, where motorists have been caught approaching speed cameras and the police have relied solely on front number plates for vehicle identification, the motorist has grounds to file for discrimination on the grounds that they have been singled out from and treated differently to another class of road user; namely motor cyclists i.e. that by relying solely on front number plates for identification, a motor cyclist could not have been caught.... I am looking at Mondeo 130 TDCi 2006 model with about 110K miles or an Avensis 07 D-4D 80K for about £1500 more, both ex-fleet cars. I understand they both have chain driven cams. Is there any known issues that I should look out for on either and what is the respective servicing and running cost like. Any feedback welcome. What sort of age/total mileage would I expect these cars to last Read more

I have a BMW 3 series convertible, registered 2001, and have recently had a problem that turned out to be a faulty engine breather. This caused chronic but intermittent backfiring over a period of some weeks that the garage couldn’t isolate the cause of. During one of those episodes something else went wrong within the engine that despite the breather problem now having been cured, by way of its replacement, the engine continues to run out of balance. The whole of the ignition side has been reviewed, repaired and or replaced and the tests show that is all is running fine yet the problem continues to persist. The head gasket is fine and there is no water in the engine oil or water or oil loss so the block and the head seem to be fine. I have now had three different mechanics look at the problem but none has cured it. Do you have any advice on what it could be? Could it be the petrol injection jets, or anything to do with the fuel injection system, given that from the regularity of the ‘roughness’ of the engine running that it appears to be affecting only one cylinder?

Thanks, I looked at that part. I'm told I have to get the whole arm. I don't if that's true but two people have said it now. I've sent them a question though, so thanks for your help.

The van wont start I have checked and the fuel is comming through, The other thing I did notice and I am not sure if it is correcect or not is that when the ignition is turned on the glow worm light comes on then goes off then comes on again. could this be the reason why the van wont start is because there is a fault with the fuel heater. I just had the pleasure of taking out dashboard to change heater matrix. On putting everything back together and reconnecting airbag the warning light started flashing (after replacing the warning bulb which had been taken out) I've read on many forums that it's the seat belt connections under the seat. Is it ok to just disconnect the airbag connector at the steering column until I have time to sort this out - I assume it just means no airbag - it won't go off on it's own, and does the flashing light just the system won't work not that it's in danger of going off. I'd appreciate any advice. Read more
i had my car serviced 5 days ago and as part of that service the oil and filter was changed. After 2 days i checked my oil level and found the oil to be black this made me think that the oil had not been changed.I took the car back to the garage and asked them if this was normal they said it was normal as when the oil is drained not all of the old oil drains out of the engine so when the new oil is added it mixes with the old old that was left in the engine thus causing the oil to look black they said this happens with diesel engines is what they told me correct or not.
Also could you tell me if this model of car has a oil drain plug or is the oil exstractedwhere the dip stick goes. Read more
They are correct. The new oil will be black within minutes and this perfectly normal, for a diesel

Continentall or michelin
As a rule i go for michelin or good year if im planning on keeping it go for the best you can afford,Cheap tyres are just a waste of time on big cars like this.
