my merc has had a flat battery & now recharged the immobiliser remains active. is there a sequence i must use to enable the car to start? i unlocked the car manually from the drivers door Read more

awkward mick

tried disconnecting battery re setting fob still no joy, i think its to do with fact the red light on door wont come on when locked, so it wont arm and hence immob stays on? the red light comes on on boot, but not drivers door it locks and unlocks fine, but refuses to start, it turns as if fuel cut out on (immob?)

Helo...I have just bought a shogun and had to put it in my lockup ang dash off to do other things. I noticed a small radiator in front of the cooling system rad and am wondering what it is. I dont know about air con and there is a hole where the air con switch would be if it was fitted. I wont see the car now until tomorow and would like to know if Shoguns have a second small radiator or must it be air con just with the switch missing.

Many thanks for any replies Read more

PeterD's on the right track i reckon, transmission cooler or aircon condensor i would think.

Get under and see where the pipes go, you shouldn't need to jack it up.

What type of tappets would my 2009 1.6 petrol Focus have ?

Would they be just bucket and shim, or do these engines have hydraulic tappets ? Read more

Bump - doesn't anyone know the answer to this ?

Hi,

I have a monthly company car allowance of £320 pre tax.... Read more

Not a lot once its taxed - you will get approx 200 per month. Difficult to run any car for that. To be honest the situation is complicated by the mileage you do and the money you would get for that. Also, does your employer have a restriction on age and type of car?

It might be worth looking at cheap lease cars. The site i use (nationwidevehiclecontracts) has a c1 for 500 down then just over 100 per month. This gives you peace of mind for costs. Cheaper used cars need repairing which can blow your budget overnight....

Hi, wondering if you can help me with my A/C problem. The problem is that there is no cold air coming out of the vents - even on the low setting which overides the climate control system and just blows the coldest air it can.

The system has been re-gassed recently and upon doing so, we found there was nearly the full amount of gas removed so I am confident that there are no leaks.... Read more

That's what I thought.

I know that there is an issue with the VAG ESP.

When viewing a car, how does one spot this? Assuming there's nothing in the service about any issue being addressed, is it just a case of a warning light on the dash?

HJ talks about dodgy sellers unplugging the ECU (so the warning light does not show?); where is this on a Mk5 Golf, and is it just a case of checking its plugged in? Read more

WellKnownSid

That's not what we're saying. Normally, if the ECU is unplugged (or the bulb removed) the warning light will NEVER light up.

If everything is working correctly, the light will come ON when you switch ON, and go OFF when the engine is started, and stay OFF....

I am just about to buy a Hyundai i30 Estate. However the dealer will give me no discount from the list price as I'm getting the benefit of their manufactures trade in trade up which gives me £3000 for my old car. Does anyone know if the dealership is pulling a fast one when they say there is no movement in their price in these circumstances?

List price is 17,150 + 395 (paint) less £3000 trade in trade up my car is only worth £1000 max.... Read more

carl_a

Nice car but don't go anywhere near that price you've been quoted. First web site I visited (Miltons Keynes Hyundai) will beat that by several hundred.

With a 10 reg version with 5k miles on it up at 13k on Autotrader thats what they're worth and you could get maybe that 1k for your car. That's 12k to change for a virtually new car with 4 1/2 years warranty....

I have a mark 3 VW Golf and have just bought some original steel wheels to replace the alloy wheels! Can I use the wheels nuts from the alloys on the steel wheels??

Thanks... Read more

jc2

On a Fiesta,I was told it was OK to use the bolts for alloys on steel wheels but not the other way around;the alloy wheel bolts had built in spacers to spread the load.

Re. HJs answer to DB Peterborough on the purpose of fog-lights in the Telegraph on 5 th Aug.

The BR members are often scathing of the use of fog-lights at all hours of the day and night. They are basically a styling feature. How often do we get fog nowadays ? Remembering the ‘smog’ of my youth days, fog lights were pretty useless then too.... Read more

We have on our car the lights stay on for a period of time,i haven't used it yet. What inpresses me is that the head lights come on automatic when its get dark.I have never been a believer in sidelights in driving conditions.I rather put the head lights on when needed.
