Car is coming up to 3 years old with 21k miles so needs MOT and service to comply with Ford warranty. Is it essential (or advisable) to use a Ford main dealer especially as the 3 year warranty is due to expire. I ask this as I'm not too happy with the attitude of the local Ford dealer (from whom we bought the car 8 months ago), not to mention the price quoted which is double that of a local independent. Even another Ford dealer has quoted a better price, presumably to try to win future business.

One concern with going to an independent is that The Ford dealers claim that they will update the ECU software - is this a reason to stick to the main dealer?... Read more

Use the other Ford dealer this time - if something expensive goes wrong at 3 1/2 years, you may get some goodwill out of Ford. Next year, DIY or indy. Ford stamps aren't going to be worth much if you intend keeping the car for a number of years.

Surrprised no one has mentioned the old shape Honda Civic, which is a lot taller than the new model and 05 models can be had for 4-5k. A reliable choice if serviced correctly and the tall shape makes it quite practical.

The oil needs a little top up every 3 months or so. Normally, I use 15W/40 oil.
This time I bought some el-cheapo 20W/40 oil from Morrisons supermarket.
Will this affect the engine adversely, part from maybe a slight performance change?

I have a new computer which works fast most of the time. An exception is in Word, where recalling and saving an existing documents takes 11 seconds each way, Someone suggsted that the delay was caused by my reliance on AVG (free version) for web protection, as it checked existing documents as well as external threats. Is this likely to be a cause or, if not, what migh be please? Read more

An expert finally fixed the problem by installing Word 2007

You come across these experts all the time in IT, just imagine the same experts in, say, the motor industry:...

After stopping, (Pulling up in a queue or junction etc), the accelerator pedal sticks and requires an amount of pressure to free-up, resulting in an awful lot of rev's as i pull away.

I have checked the cable path, alignment of the pedal to the cable, the rotation and freeness of the pulley at the 'Carb'. And have greased all these points... They all seem free moving.... Read more

awkward mick

tried disconnecting battery re setting fob still no joy, i think its to do with fact the red light on door wont come on when locked, so it wont arm and hence immob stays on? the red light comes on on boot, but not drivers door it locks and unlocks fine, but refuses to start, it turns as if fuel cut out on (immob?)

Helo...I have just bought a shogun and had to put it in my lockup ang dash off to do other things. I noticed a small radiator in front of the cooling system rad and am wondering what it is. I dont know about air con and there is a hole where the air con switch would be if it was fitted. I wont see the car now until tomorow and would like to know if Shoguns have a second small radiator or must it be air con just with the switch missing.

Many thanks for any replies Read more

PeterD's on the right track i reckon, transmission cooler or aircon condensor i would think.

Get under and see where the pipes go, you shouldn't need to jack it up.

Hi,

I have a monthly company car allowance of £320 pre tax.... Read more

Not a lot once its taxed - you will get approx 200 per month. Difficult to run any car for that. To be honest the situation is complicated by the mileage you do and the money you would get for that. Also, does your employer have a restriction on age and type of car?

It might be worth looking at cheap lease cars. The site i use (nationwidevehiclecontracts) has a c1 for 500 down then just over 100 per month. This gives you peace of mind for costs. Cheaper used cars need repairing which can blow your budget overnight....

Hi, wondering if you can help me with my A/C problem. The problem is that there is no cold air coming out of the vents - even on the low setting which overides the climate control system and just blows the coldest air it can.

The system has been re-gassed recently and upon doing so, we found there was nearly the full amount of gas removed so I am confident that there are no leaks.... Read more
