After many hours of searching I can't find any information on what I'm looking for, so I decided to give it a go on here.

I'm trying to locate the remote central locking unit on my 1997 Citroen ZX 1.4i Temptation. After consulting the Haynes manual, the unit should be located next to the handbrake. However, this unit is a sealed box marked as 'Pretensioner - do not remove'. So now I am stuck and I'm not sure where to look.... Read more

Found this for a ZX 1.4i on Citroen Service - not very helpful I'm afraid. http://bigjohnd.org.uk/CCC/ZX1-4i.gif

Hey guys, Morning. A very quick question.

For those of you who are unaware of the issue i am having with my car, i had an engine run-away which simply means my car hit max revvs on its own accord. Mazda are simply blaming me for not checking oil levels when i specifically told them i do according to the handbook.... Read more

I couldnt have an internal inspection done on it until now because at first Mazda only agreed to an inspection to be carried out by an AA/RAC expert but we then found out they wont take this kind of work on, then to try and get acceptance from all sides for an independant strip down of whom is qualified to write up reports for court led to the delays in them writing back to us.

Every time my solicitor writes a letter to Mazda, it takes them at least 1 month to reply back and when they do reply its not the answers to what we have asked. So if you can imagine, going through that one the 1st paragraph then onto this.. how long it takes....

its awkaward to explain this but you need a little jiggery pokery . There should be 2 wires which need connecting the right way. on the standard block there fine for the vauxhall radios but not other makes. happens a lot this on vauxhalls, as you will find that the radios memory of saving your stations or cd tracks wont work either. ill have a look at mine and try to see what colours the wires are in mine later on., if somebody with better knowledge dosent post first., it shoudl be 1 or 2 wires which are seperate to the blocks with the singular fitments on. they need switching around.

Hi

I've read in some car workshop manuals that threads of screws should be clean and dry before refitting, but I have read a thread on this site about applying copperslip to the threads before reassembling, this is obviously to help when undoing the screw the next time.... Read more

Yes a small amount of copper slip around the thread screw the plug in and nip up 1/4 turn is all thats needed.

Beru i think is the spelling of plugs or get vx own brand replace all four and clean the buzbar/ wire.

Hello

This is my first post on the forum and I was wondering if there was any consensus as to a cheap to run, comfortable commute car that would be happy with 70 miles per day. Now I've had a look through the FAQ, ran a search on similar posts and not actually come up with anything that was terribly helpful. Probably because everyone wants something different.... Read more

Hi,

I have a 52 Renualt Clio 172 which I took for a full service & Cam belt & auxillary belt change at a renualt specialists in Newcastle at a cost of £1200

I week later the belt failed causing £1500 worth of engine damage

spoken to quite a few main dealers and they said the following:

"why didn't they spot the broken alternator pulley when the car was apart, i do these day in day out, you'd notice that even if you were blind, i'm betting money they've damaged the pulley putting the aux belt on, i see it all the time when garages who don't have the tools/experience work on them, but i' still yet to see an alternator cause a belt failure

i bet they didn't get the aux belt seated properly and it has shreded itself"

I was followed by someone from my home, then when I stopped at the shops the garage took there courtesy car back! I though the car had been stolen.

So me & my 2yr old daughter were stranded, they have sunk to a all time low, especially when I'm being polite & profession to try and get the issue resolved.

There are even holding my daughters kids seat until I return the key.

Do you think it's worth taking legal action or cut my losses and pay another garage to fit a new engine?

The garage won't except liability even if I get a independent inspection.

Then today I have just had a invoice for £284 which was to find out the belt has shredded, and won't release the damaged car before I pay the invoice, as I plan to take somewhere else as I need my car to get to and from work.

The garage is called Centreville garage in Heaton has anyone else had a bad service from here?

What should I do?

Many thanks Read more

Well, I dont know much about renaults but £1200 seems an expensive price for such work. My local parts store have the timing kits for £78 inc VAT obviously a genuine renault kit would be more but not that much.

In much humble unqualified opinion if the belt was done as a regular interval change and was part of the normal service proceedure and the car prior was running fine then they should accept liability. But pound to a penny they wont....
