What, if any is the significance when buying a car at auction that does not have the log book present, also mileage not warranted?

In other words it is such a big deal?

Any advice appreciated, kind regards, omnipeta.

Well, obviously, no log book present means you get the car but no V5 with it. This usually means you cannot tax or sell the car on easily until you apply for a V5 from the DVLA which can take up to 6 weeks. Some cars can be taxed and a new V5 applied for simultanously by applying directly to a DVLA local office.

Warranted miles means that if you provide evidence within a certain time frame after purchase (often 3-5 days) that the mileage is not correct you can return the car. Note that it is up to you to do the research and come up with some proper evidence.

Not warranted means what it says. The car is sold on fall of the hammer with no comeback even if you subsequently find the car has done 200,000 more miles than advertised.

Some vendors sell all of their cars unwarranted as a matter of policy as they do not want any cars ever coming back under any circumstances. As ever at auction it is up to you to judge whether a car is genuine or not.
