Thank you for the suggestion . However have a number of metric sockets and a couple of full sets as do various mechanical and electrical type service engineer work for a living. This is why am so supprised at metric socket size not fitting as tried more than one socket and a couple of known good quality ones. It (car) did not overheat that long but perhaps long enough? The vehicle had a very ocasional problem once in a few months of what semed like a sticking or dirty injector, and initially the overheating sounded like this (not see temp gauge that well in dark poor dashboard light ) . Hence put foot down hard a couple of times to see if clear it .

Realised within perhaps two to four minutes geting worse and somethin else wrong on this ocasion. It then cut out whilst urgently looking for and pulling into reasonable parking spot , (heavy traffic poor road) but restarted with some slight effort, and then parked switched off and left to cool within a few yards. However could have got very hot in even three or four minutes as serious radiator leak....

My son's 307 Estate is showing an ABS fault on the dash. His local service garage says their diagnostic tools are locked out and he will have to take it to a Peugot dealer. Is this likely to be correct or should he try elsewhere before incurring the main dealer labour rates? Read more

The most common fault on abs faults on 307 's are the rear sensor's gap. if you remove

rear wheels and had a look in at rear wheel sensors the gap between bearing and sensor should not exceed 2mm unscrew sensor using a long 5mm allen key reduce gap by fitting a shim behind sensor hth Best Regards Mickeybo

I purchased this car in Nov 09 new and I can't get any better than 34MPG. I've done 6k miles so far a mix of motorway and town. I manually work out the consumption by filling up to brim then driving out the petrol, and seeing how much it takes to fill the tank again.

I really expected a bit more, from my mx5 1.8 I regularly get over 40MPG. I know it's marginal, but it's put me right off the car and is fairly expensive to run - anyone got a diesel Mazda 3? Read more

How hard are you presssing the loud pedal ?. Driving like a vicar, once your engine is bedded in I would expect you to get mid forties. My wife averages 41mpg on her 55 mile rural road round trip to work. She drives an 07 plate Mazda 3 TS 1.6 petrol which she has had from new. ( she doesn't spare the horses!)

I've just bought an approved Toyota from a dealer who is part of the Arnold Clark group. I've been offered a choice of two warranties: either a one year Toyota or a one year Arnold Clark warranty.

To slightly confuse things with the latter option I have the option of extending it to two years for an extra £100.... Read more

Thanks for replies - will check them both closely

Read the previous forum re the above problem. Mine started today 7/6/10, on checking fuel system noticed that air is being sucked in through the filter bleed point, suggesting negative pressure. Any advice would be welcome, also where are the leak off pipes located?

Any Help out there

I tried to post this yesterday but it doesn't seem to be displaying properly...

I have a 1997 VW Polo 1.4 CL. The car recently developed a general knocking noise and a whining when in 5th gear. I have since had both front wheel bearings replaced which seems to have just about cured the knocking but not the whining...... Read more

I have just topped up the transmission oil and it took a good half of a bottle before spilling over the hole (the fill level) so hopefully this has solved or at least delayed the problem!

I will report back when I take the car for a long drive!

Help! Problem with the lock on my drivers door. I have to unlock the car doors using the passengers side lock. The drivers door works and opens perfectly well from the inside alas i just cant get the lock to rotate completly and freely from the outside. For some reason the locking mechanism on that door just wont work. Any help would be appreciated.

I would start with WD40 at this stage to try to free it if this is the problem.

The next step would be to concult the Haynes manual; I would assume you would need to remove the internal trim and check the internal mechanism....

I recently had the clutch replaced on my Mondeo Mk2. Recently I've started hearing knocking on the front end of the car, I took it to the mechanic to look at, he said the bolt in the subframe is not tightening but isn't anything to worry about but will cause the knocking. Is it true that its nothing to worry about or should I get a second opinion? Read more
