Had a slow drain on the battery for some time, but over early part of year (car not used very frequently) the battery (new) went totally flat, when I tried to charge with battery connected the charger overloaded and tripped out - pulling way too much power. Disconnected battery and charged. Thought I had a major earth fault so connected positive side and left earth open to use a bulb and remove fuses to check which circuit had fault on, but prior to that lightly touched earth to battery expecting huge spark but got nothing, not even a little sign of earth activity. Reconnected battery fully and car started ok.
Confused as to why the charger would not charge when connected? was there an earth fault and it suddenly has disappeared?... Read more

Hi, im new to this forum, and am in need of some help.
Basically my brother was involved in a serious hit and run, what had happenend is that he goes to a private school who provide a minibus service who my parents pay for him to get dropped off (door to door) however the minibus driver dropped my brother on a busy main road where my brother had crossed half way across the road when a vehicle allegedly came speeding and failed to stop, didnt even brake and sped off the person was driving a high performance speed car, allegedly he had just overtaken a bus just before this and sped of at high speed where he was chased by bystanders and up the road almost caused another head on collission as he tried to esacape.... The driver does not have to be identified in cases like these but you do have to have supporting evidence - witness evidence in a disappeared driver case - to show it was his fault. If the driver can be shown to be at fault then the claim will be settled either by his insurer (if insured) or if untraced or uninsured by the MIB. There are likely to be very serious criminal charges in this case if the person has been arrested and hence you can expect considerable legal muscle to be deployed in his defence to attempt to show your brother was at fault by walking in the road. The fact that the driver left the scene is likely to go against him in criminal terms but it does not automatically infer liability. If the police accident report goes against the driver then that will significantly assist your case but if it is non-committal then you will need to prove your own case. As with the prosecution defence the stakes are likely to be high for the driver's insurer and they could choose to fight it all the way. Your brother needs a heavyweight specialist motor accident solicitor supported by a team of accident investigators to assist him in gathering evidence and fighting for compensation in a case like this. Honest John has access to a legal team that can deliver the support you require who should be able to assist your brother in proving his case. There are serious legal implications here that should not be discussed further in a public forum. Please contact me via "letters@honestjohn.co.uk" and we will endeavour to assist your brother further.

Ask away if i can help i will.
But start another thread.
I have a 2002 Renault Cleo CDi which has developed an intermittent loss of power. I might be cruising along quite happily when suddenly the power drops. If I change down a gear the power will return followed by a white puff of smoke from the exhaust. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern as to when the loss of power will occur. My mechanic has diagnosed an air leak in the system but has so far been unable to pinpoint it, even after rigging a temporary line from the fuel tank to the engine to see if the air leak is between the two. Does anyone have any ideas about where the problem might lie?

Any tyre experts out there, please? I only do a few hundred miles a year and my Goodyears were renewed in 1987. Apart from being a bit hard and slippery in the wet they appear to be perfectly OK.. I have never seen an instruction to change them after, say, 10yrs as for a cambelt. Their age is presumably obvious to the MoT tester from sidewall markings. Is 20+yrs too old? Read more
John stick new cheap ones on if you do low mileage and change every 5 years or don't drive near my kids.!
Anybody know where a person can locate a vac hose diagram for above vehicle

If the battery was comletely flat it was probably trying to draw more current than the charger could supply without tripping.
