Are they hinting that if you need any help then all you can do is get down on your knees and pray?

I was wondering if anyone could maybe give me some advice. I have a ford fiesta 99 1.4i which the engine has been replaced recently. All went well after the installation, engine ran smooth for about a day or two until I found it did not want to idle, I replaced the idle valve, and that sorted out the idling problem, but then I noticed that the car was using excessive fuel, lack of power,( when I drive in 5 th gear and the revs go past 3000 I hear a noise like thumping) struggling to start when cold, the oil light has gone on twice in the last 3months, then I restart it goes off. On top of it all it is making a funny noise which sounded like there was a hole in the exhaust system. I checked the exhaust system and found no fault, and I replaced the spark plugs, which was burned black and especially the 3d cylinder plug was bad. This didn’t make a difference either, I had the cylinder pressure checked, nothing wrong, and even took it to have the wiring tested, but no fault to be found, I have spent a lot on the car and can’t pinpoint the fault. Can anyone pls help?

I think I can help with one problem at least. The noise from the exhaust could be an air leak somewhere: even from the top part of the exhaust where it connects to the cylinder head. Perhaps rev the engine whilst someone listens to help pin pointing.

Hi, I own a Nissan Micra S 1.0, X Reg, and I currently have a warning indicator on the dashboard whilst driving , but I have no idea what it indicates as I didn't get an owner's manual when I bought the car second hand.

I wonder if these warning symbols are standardised for most car models, and if there is any place online I can look them up for reference ?... Read more

Hi there my wife's son had an accident (fortunately uninjured) which led to the recovery services being called by the Police as the car was upside down on the road & needed to be recovered urgently.OK so far.If he wants the car back he has been quoted @£360 for the recovery & £20 per day storage plus the sc*** value of the car (a Peugeot 306 TD) from Norwich Recovery. We asked around for recovery prices from other local recovery firms & their recovery costs seem to
substantially lower. Can I do anything about it?Or is it just a cosy stitch up between Police & certain recovery firms? What's your opinion please Many thanks

It is covered by the The Removal, Storage and Disposal of Vehicles (Prescribed Sums and Charges) Regulations 2008.

The police have a legal responsibility to get the road clear as fast as possible and allow the resumption of traffic. That means they have local operators with a guaranteed service level agreement to meet certain standards of response time, quality of operators and tow trucks for the recovery of vehicles. That in turn means keeping more recovery vehicles (and special equipment) available during quiet times than might be required so they can cope with a major incident or unexpected peaks. In return the participating recovery firms are guaranteed a set fee stipulated by the Regulations. Storage costs are similarly stipulated....

I have recently sold a car privately. The guy emailed me after his first trip to advise me that the car had broken down. He then sent me a letter formally requesting me to compensate him for the cost of the replacment parts, he says he is doing this as I quoted on the advert '' Excellent drive & condition ''.

He has also quoted a statment from the Citizens Advice website:
If you can show that the vehicle did not match the description the seller gave you, you will have a claim against them, even if the seller believed the description to be true. It will strengthen your claim if you have written proof of the false description, for example, a newspaper advertisement.

He has asked if we can deal with this matter privately, if I do not reimburse him for the costs of parts within 5 days, he states that he will purse this matter through the small claims court.

Can you please advise if he has a claim or not and what I should do next

Thanks

Private sales are almost always based on the principle of "Caveat Emptor" - buyer beware - so unless you make a factual mis-statement or the car has been clocked he has very little comeback.

A factual mis-statement might include something regarding the car which can be reasonably called into question with evidence - "four new tyres and shock absorbers" for example "new clutch" or "new brake pads all round". If you could have been shown to misled him an a factual manner then he may have some recourse....

My current Dunlop 225/45 tyres on 17 inch wheels cause more road noise than I would prefer. What would be better in this respect consistent with reasonable performance? Are Yokohama db tyres any good? Read more

This thread is very popular I answered also few weeks ago.My conclusion after very noisy tyres and investigation is that :-

Directional tyres with patterns especially 'V' pattern are very noisy.I have now fitted a set of continentals , these have straight tread grooves and symetric...another good quiet tyre and softer ride is goodyear excellence , hope this helps.

Funny thing about memories of childhood, sometimes they have great clarity, in particular when your family moved out of the area and those memories and times seem frozen, like the proverbial fly trapped in pre-historic amber.

Not that it`s THAT long ago - though it`over 60 yrs since we were crawling in the gardens together and 8 yrs after that before the plug was pulled - as it were.... Read more

Well be they "old Friends" or not , you definately don`t want to introduce them to your garden in Himalayan Balsam form!! - like many "friends" that are still alive, these ones will outstay thier welcome, and once they get thier roots under your proverbial table they will take over and you1ll never get thrm to leave!!
