Hi,
I have a strange problem with my 1997 Ford Mondeo Ghia GX. 2.0 ltr. 147,000 miles.
When I turn on the lights I get a strong whirring noise. It stays on regardless of where I set the switch. And it can be heard above the engine noise. It is there with the engine running or not.
Any ideas please? Read more
I haven't seen an unusual sightings thread on here for some time. So I took a liberty and posted this thread.
Today I saw a Peugeot RCZ coupe driving through Frome, Somerset. I didn't know the RCZ was on the market yet. Read more
The small print should remind people that 'investments can go down as well as up'.
Ask anybody who paid a blindingly stupid price for an old car during the last 'bubble', 20 years ago.... Read more
When new that Veyron cost about £1m so it's still depreciated by 40%. I wouldn't call that a good investment.
Sorry but I can't get excited by people paying very silly money for mobile bling.
There's a strange noise coming from my mum's 06 plate 1.4 Peugeot 206 (or is it a 307 I can't honestly remember) which sounds not unlike a PC modem dialling. It appears to be coming from the area highlighted on the attached picture ( see link) but apart from that seems to be running fine. It starts as soon as the ignition is switched on.(i.e. before the engine is running) . Any ideas?
hi folks,
I've recently bought another new car to replace my bora, (had problems with it from day one but not my money back....yet)... Read more
Yes you have to go there in person... take along all your stuff, including the orginial (and I mean original!) insurance certificate... if you try a computer printed copy they won't accept it... I assume its taxed under the disabled tax bracket at the moment... the post office can convert from normal tax to disabled tax brackets but not the other way round!
I did own a diesel one in the early part of the last decade and was very impressed with the economy and the torque, but obviously hearing the horror stories on here abour some modern diesels has put me off. While I know the diesel versions of the Ibiza are excellent for economy, what is the 1.4 petrol like in terms of economy, refinement and performance as I am considering adding an Ibiza to my list of possible next cars? Also if the deal is good enough, is a Leon with a 1.6 petrol worth considering? Read more
Hello Sid, I was thinking more on the lines of the 2005 onwards model, which does have a good reputation and looks excellent. My only gripe with SEAT in the past was the rather wayward interior quality- mechanically sold, though- but apparently this problem has been beaten. The local dealer also is a family run business that has been a success for decades, rather than some faceless franchise.
Hi, I'm new here so hope I have come to the right place to ask my question.
I have recently found a flat metal AA badge that is oval & painted white. It has a flat metal hump at the top within which the AA insignia is placed. It also has the large letters "NR" in the oval. These, like the insignia are painted black.... Read more
AA membership badges remain the property of the AA and should be returned when membership ceases. So you will of course be handing it in, after having satisfied your curiosity. :)

Does it have an inertia fuel cut off valve? If so this could have triggered when the air bag went off.. Check that you have fuel coming through to the pump.
Went for a test drive in a verso (main dealer) that had done under 35k miles and was 4 years old. Straight away I heard a noise like a wheel bearing along with the car stalling once and nearly stalling when coming up to lights, i.e. braking from 40 or 50 and then coasting in neutral from 5 or 10 mph.
Found out today that it was a wheel bearing - the stalling problem yet to be looked at.... Read more
Yes, I agree, look elsewhere.
It's yet another example of how main dealers claim to be selling specially selected and checked used cars, but easily spotted faults like these are not picked up and rectified until a punter doscovers them! And they're charging premium prices for these 'approved' cars....
Evening all. :)
I've had a persistent problem for some time now. Over a fairly short period of time, the car has lost almost all it's power. No oomph at all.... Read more
Does sound like a turbo related problem, but not necessarily the turbo itself. It could be a faulty MAP sensor which measures turbo boost. It's located in the air intake pipe behind the front bumper on the offside. To check it out either you'll need a scantool to interogate the ECU, or you could use a multi-meter.
You will have a plug on the MAP sensor with 3 wires. One will be a 5V ECU supply, one with be an earth and one will be a signal. Connect a voltmeter between the signal wire and earth and increase the engine speed. The voltage should rise and the engine speed increases and fall when it falls.....

If you stand near the front of the car,I would guess the problem noise is coming from one or both of the headlights.Very likely to be the motorised h/light raise and lower system.hth
