The local dealership dealership tell me that Honda recommend an engine flush on each service with this engine. This sounds like rubbish to me, can anyone confirm?

I have a 1997 Prado which is running fine and done just over 100,000 miles. I would like to keep this vehicle for several more years, what do I need to ask my local garage (not a Toyota specialist garage) to do at the next service to ensure its reliability into the future? I'm thinking of things like cambelt, tensioner, pulleys etc and maybe the water pump. Anything that is likly to cause extensive damage to the engine if it breaks that would be uneconomical to repair on a vehicle of this age.

I assume this is diesel, in which case at that age it will have an IDI engine, very much more reliable than the modern common rail engines. The cam belt and possibly tensioners if needed are by far the most important items to maintain to avoid a catastrophic failure, the engine oil should also be changed regularly, its the frequency of the changes rather than using very expensive oil that is the secret of long engine life. I don't know if the water pump is driven by the cambelt on this model, if so it would be advisable to change that as well....
No where on Toyota UK site dose it imply that the warranty is also transferrable to subsequent owners.

What can cause Thick Black smoke on a Corsa 1.3 cdti without the Engine light coming on? It also takes quite a bit of starting and the revs take a bit of building up. It does act like an Inlet blockage but i've had it apart with no luck.

Do you mean Forte? A quick look at their website intended for traders / garages should shed plenty of light on how this practice comes about......it's all about adding more chargeable items to the customer's bill.
