I have a 57 Picasso on 41k miles. The gearbox clunks and you get "autogear fault" displayed on the dash board. It was notified to Citroen in warranty but they can't find the fault. Any idea what this could be. Read more

Take a look at the belt tensioner.

If it is vibrating or bouncing around it will probably be a problem with the crankshaft mounted belt pulley....

Just recently the car has started to take a lot off turning over before it starts, this is only when its hot, if cold it starts fine. my thoughts are towards the temp sender playing up, does anyone have any other reason why this should be happening?

Thanks Burge. Read more

What's happening to people these days that is turning more and more in to Psychopathic type drivers ?

1. I mean the type who drive within 1 or 2 meters behind you irrespective of what speed you are doing.

2. The type who pass anywhere including blind bends, dips/dives in the road.

3. The type who don't use their indicators when overtaking or turning, their sudden movements around the road are random and a danger to everyone around them.

4. Speed well in excess of what is safe for the traffic and road conditions at the time.

Take this example of utter madness. Just outside Glaston the other day (mid- afternoon) 2 young men died in a head on crash, the young driver was overtaking on a blind bend and crashed head on in to a new Astra, the Astra driver survived ok but lost one of his dogs as it fled away terrified. Now there are blue police signs in both directions warning of the incident black spot and today an Audi A4 2.0 TDCi driver did a similar thing by overtaking 2 cars as they approached the same incident location, fortunately for all concerned there wasn't a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Why oh why oh why...? Read more

I've never 'got' the need for people to flash their head lights at others who have just overtaken. I've always presumed it is to vent their ire at someone overtaking them..but why?

Half the time, if the car in front gave the car behind sufficient room or helpfulness (as they often do abroad) then any 'iffiness' can be erased form the equation....

I have a problem with the front passengers electric window which will not remain in the closed position. After closing fully it retracts open to leave a gap of about 4 inches. Funnily enough the trouble started only when it was raining and I could eventually get it to close, however, now it is staying open...and it is raining!...help!!

Recently Broke down on the motorway, Called out the AA who said the cam belt had slipped some teeth, had the car taken to a Alfa Specialist who said that the big ends were badly worn and teeth had snapped off the crankshaft all this was down to driving with little or no oil, we weren't convinced so had the car taken to another garage who stripped the engine and rebuilt it, they have told us it is to do with the woodruff key being sheered which caused the cam belt to slip a couple of teeth.

A lack of oil or very low oil level results in the oil not being able to lubricate the bearings furthest away from the oil pump in the engine block, the bearings furthest away from the pump are the camshaft and its bearings, the pump has to pump the oil against gravity to reach the cam bearings and any shortage results in camshaft siezure , this can result in the belt snapping.....the camshaft snapping...the valves contacting the pistons or the woodruff key shearing...all of these are a total disaster , and a FULL engine build is required as the crankshaft will also have suffered damage as will the pump and all the engine ancilliaries. Ive rebuilt engines all over the woorld in the oil exploration industry, and Ive found that its more cost efficient to replace a oil damaged engine than rebuild one. Good luck

This is from Eddie Wilson's department at Bristol re "phantom" jams.

I think it deserves a thread on its own rather than wrapping it up in the one on average speed cameras.... Read more

Even if the results provide an answer, what can be done about it?

People will still change lanes suddenly, some will brake too hard, others will leave too big a gap , the list goes on....

Last year my daughter bought a 10 year old car from a dealer, all seemed well for a while then the head gasket started weeping into one of the cylinders causing rough running 'til the water had been cleared.

The dealer took the car back and replaced the head gasket (I assume) and all was well for the last six months. Now the problem is back. ... Read more

Given the age of the car and the time since the purchase she is very unlikely to have any legal rights in this case. See if you can negotiate anything but in legal terms he has no obligation.

Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a Saab 9-5 aero as I really like our old 2.3t but would prefer something a bit faster. I've read mixed reports about the 9-5 aero and I'm worried about who to believe. Some reviewers seem to say that the with the Auto, torque steer is minimal whilst the review on auto express says that torque steer is a problem if you accelerate hard with the 'slightest amount of lock on'. Are there any Aero out there who can let me know what their experiences are, specifically, I'd like to know if the 2006 facelift made any difference and whether it's worth paying a bit extra to get one.... It's worth airing (aero-ing?) this on Saabscene Saab Forum, you may get some good informed comment.
