Hello, l would be grateful for any experience/opinion as to a problem l have with a vehicle. It's a Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDi (PD) 2001 with 175K on the clock. Basically, everytime l accelerate to any degree eg overtaking, the turbo cuts out & the engine is put into limp mode. When you stop the vehicle, turn off the ignition, wait 30 seconds or so, then start the engine again, it's reset. Read more
You need a code read to find the fault, sounds as though it is overboosting as you no mention you are low on power. Regards Peter
I botrrowed a car the other day- 4th May. Silly me had not checked the tax disc and i was stopped by police for this- apparently it was untaxed. I phoned the owner of the car who offered to give officer ref number that he had got on phone taxing it then but they werent interested. So i get a £69 fine for failing to display- that i can swallow

Neither are incorrect spacing on number plates or tints on windows but youcan still be prosecuted if they are defective.
Vectra with serious lack of pulling power when taking off, recently bought in auction, loads of work carried out on it and only 55.000 miles hence reason for purchase.
New manifold EGR valve etc etc, but local V/Hall tech cannot "Fix" it says its a waste of time and get shut?? surely a car on a 54 - 55 plate should be repairable, any ideas anyone, please.... Read more
i assume that you mean a vectra c with that engine in it !!! are there any trouble codes stored and one can assume no history at al,l but all you have are those symptoms, what has been checked by your guy ?,Regards TB

My car shakes when starting when hot and sometimes takes a few times to start, also when hot and idling after starting the car it seems to rev up slighlty on its own every few seconds, like a vroom and pulsing feeling in the car, this goes once the cars starts to move.

The Honestjohn 'car by car' comparison shows the idle control valve as a known issue, in addition to many other issues!

What's the law regarding what has to be on a legal licence plate? I need new ones and don't want one of those poncey italic fonts, just plain old legal lettering - I'm sure I've heard that to pass the MOT, the postcode of the car's original dealer must be in smaller lettering underneath. Is this right or can I just have my reg number and nothing else? Read more
It is not the post code of the original vendor of the vehicle that must be included but the manufacturer/supplier of the current number plate. There must also be included the British Standards code of BS AU 145A.
The use of number plate screw caps to make an O in to an 8 for example, is also forbidden as is incorrect spacing.
The better half has fitted some new alloys to her mk5 golf. They are 17" 5x112 ET 56 7.5j and the tyres are 17 225/45. All the tyre/wheel guides online have shown this size to fit with no problems as have all the mk5 golf forums.
The tyres are no where near the arches at any point on full lock either direction or touching any arch liner..there seems to be quite abit of spare room. However on going round a roundabout today quickish there is a worrying rubbing/banging noise. Even on a striaght it didnt seem quite right.... Read more
Have you told your insurance company about the modifications?
I had a towbar with single electrics fitted and the first time I unlocked the car the alarm went off but only the siren, no flashing indicators and you can still start the engine and drive the car. I called the towbar fitter back and even after he disconnected the new wiring the alarm still went off. Just to get me home he disconnected the siren, but it still carried on going off until it's integral battery went flat. \if anybody can help with advice please do, any replies welcome

As above, also check the airfilter is clean, spark plugs are fresh and gapped correctly etc
