I have a 1989 (G plate) 1.4 fiesta ghia. It is in exceptionally good condition for its year, both inside and out. However a small amount of bubbling has started to appear around the fuel filler area.
I have read else where on the net that this is eventually pretty much terminal for MK3 Fiestas. I would like to know if this is the case, and what sort of costs would be involved in repair. Despite the cars age I would be willing to spend a certain amount on it, as it is a reliable little runabout.... Read more
I think I have a problem with my clutch and the hydraulics need bled. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Where do I gain access to slave and main cylinder and is there a reserve chamber in the system I need to top up and what with. Thanks Read more
I purchased a 54 plate Mondeo GHIA TDCI 115 last October and so far hasn't been a bad car, averaging a good 56mpg up to 66mpg on some journeys. Since I bought it however there has been a strange noise. Let me try and explain. When you rev the engine and let it come down to idle there is a weird almost sc***ing metallic noise coming from the front of the car. It has been into the garage a few times as I am concerned that it sounds almost like the gearbox but the garage assures me it isn't. They have said that it is the air rushing into the inter-cooler making the noise? Yesterday the hose from the inter-cooler to the EGR valve has split causing me a loss in power and a gushing noise when accelerating. The MPG has plummeted as well and is now doing a lousy 44mpg! The car has done nearly 150k, could this be a sign of things starting to go or should I not be worried about it? The garage is replacing the hose next week but the sc***ing noise is still there? Any help would be appreciated.

Air rushing into the intercooler, mmm interesting!
Could be related to the two piece harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) which may be breaking up. Any deterioration of power steering operation?...
Im getting back into trading again from home, If there are any motor traders out there where are you sourcing your stock from now? I have found the auctions are pricey.

Used car stock is pricey right now and part exchanges are the best source.
Hello, first time poster and first time potential new car buyer.
Previous to now I've always bought used cars but my wife is due to give birth to our first kid fairly soon and she's quite keen on this car as a family car. I've taken the 2WD Diesal Premium model for a test drive and for the price was reasonably impressed with performance, interior, extras, etc and the 5 year warranty and car tax band make it more interesting.... This is a bit rich from Hyundai the company that has probably cut i30 residuals to pieces by selling them in shiploads for £8999 under the sc***page scheme.
True, but you didn't even need sc***page to get them for that price, auto trader had them on for £8700 pre reg and £8995 new while sc***page was going on. I was very tempted but like many asian cars in the segment (Ceed, Auris) they offer so little space for the driver and I don't fit, bar the boot my Colt offers far more room.
Does anyone know of potential issues regarding availability of spares for the Kia Cerato? Given that it was only sold in UK for just 3 years, will availability of spares be an issue? Read more
Yes, but the Kia is an Elantra underneath. And if you do your homework you'll realise that they sold quite a few of those as well.
Given that virtually all pattern parts are made in China now I'd actually go so far as to say that pattern parts for a worldwide car are going to be more common than those for a regional vehicle like the Golf (few are sold outside Europe, although the Brazilian Jetta -- a different car -- is more common)....

My 2002 C5 estate boot starts beeping and comes up as open on the dash display
after it has been sitting in the sun for a short while. The beeping continues
intermittently for a while as I drive. Consequently I am unable to lock the car when
this happens. A firm bang closed very occasionally works. My mechanic changed the
lock and has fiddled around over the last couple of years but without solving the
problem. Any suggestions appreciated otherwise it looks like another noisy six
months. Read more
Problem solved. The back window was slightly out of allignment and by inserting a spacer the problem was solved. The window may have been broken in the past.
I am returning to motoring after 7 years (no,not D&D) and i'm looking to spend £4K on a 'sunday drive' family car. My head says a Mondeo but i want to treat myself and the car won't be relied on for commuting so day to day running is not an issue. I am tempted by an '01 BMW 525, an '02 Jag x-type or an '01 Audi A4 for the same money. I am aware of the pro's and cons of the models as they stand but my very specific question is, out of these 3, which is the best (and which is the worst) for parts and servicing prices, bearing in mind i will be fully comp as far as any bodywork parts are concerned. Thanks in adavance for any help at all. Read more
Thanks Corax you've hit the nail on the head for me. and thanks to everyone else that posted
My Ford Ka squeaks, especially at low speed. There is a sound like rubber being rubbed against something, and it is most noticeable when going slowly in a car park. Is this normal? It originates from the front, probably near the front wheels. It was recently serviced. Read more
If its an old one it'll be the top mounts or the wishbones.
Thanks. Yes, an old one. Is that something to worry about?

Why do you think you have air in the clutch system. ?
The formal way of bleeding the clutch is to attach a vacuum bleeder to the slave and sucking the fluid through whilst ensuring the brake header is kept full of dot 4 fluid....
