This is a bit of an odd one. I was driving home the other night along a stretch of road that goes from being a 2 lane carriageway to a single lane. Once it went down to a single lane a young lad approached at speed, pulled past into the now painted off second lane, realized there were bollards in the middle of the road and a couple of car lengths in front of me tried to pull back in but lost control of his car and had a crash. I stopped, called the emergency services and with other people who had stopped dealt with the situation until the proffesionals arrived - unfortunately the lad is in a bad way. I left a brief statement with a police officer and was told I was free to go but someone would be in touch for a full statement.
The following day I get a phone call but it's to provide my vehicle to be examined just to eliminate it from any involvement which I'm told may take a day or 2. I'm not overly impressed but I figure if it helps put the lad's families mind at ease fair enough. When they come and collect the car I am then told it may be up to a week before I get it back as it's not going to be that high a priority looking at a car with not a scratch on it. Again inconvenient but thinking the Police's job is hard enough I don't make a fuss but ask that they try to get it me back for the start of the following week (I was able to borrow a company pool car in the meantime) the only paperwork I am given is a leaflet for vehicle accidents with the incident number and the officers details on - nothing in any way official.... Blimey, this all sounds a bit familiar.
Late 2005 I purchased a, then, 1 year old Subaru Forester 2.5XTn anticipating doing 10k miles/year in it. By 2008 I'm doing 25k/year in a car that's returning 28mpg, needs a service every 10k and is soon going to cost £400/year to tax. To add to my woes I've financed it on a PCP and my income has taken a serious hit (2008 was not my best year!)...

It sounds like a flat Battery ! Solinoid clicking in but not enough power in battery to turn the Starter Motor. Check how clean and how tight your battery terrminals are,and if they are OK, put the battery on charge and try again.
Hello Everybody,
I have just agreed to purchase a Honda Accord Tourer diesel automatic from a Honda dealer (13 months old & 8,800 miles) - as this will be my first ever automatic car can any auto gearbox experts advise on how often the ATF should be changed ?... Read more
I've read that some people change ATF as often as their engine oil but that's excessive in my opinion. ATF doesn't get contaminated like engine oil. I would say change it every 25k or so. Here is a handy link with tips about autos http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31796

I've bought two brands Wynns and Turtle of the foam type and I'm afraid I'm not impressed. The Wynns says leave for 30 secs then wipe of. The Turtle says leave for 5mins then wipe off. When you wipe off there is hardly any dirt on the cloth. They don't even remove a chocolate mark without a lot of rubbing and I'm sure warm water would do better. These items are not cheap about £6 - £7. I think they are rubbish. Any recommendations as to one that actually does what it says on the tin. Read more
I'll buy it if it's still on sale.

Hi,
Since new, I've had an Alfa Romeo GT that make a creaking noise while cornering or steering. Is it a business or personal lease? If it's a business then the Sale and Supply of Goods Act (SSoGA) does not apply.
Even if it is a private deal and you are able to use SSoGA you have had the car 18 months. You will need to demonstrate that the car is not fit for purpose. That will require a serious failing at this stage....

Almera 1.6 SRi first fault in 13 years, Started the car this morning ran for 2-3 seconds now fails to start at all. There is a spark at the HT lead, also checked fuses to engine cont. and fuel etc.so I suspect the possibility of a fuel problem. I am led to believe there is a way of interegating the fault codes, if so can any one please advice on a way forward. Read more

Any vehicle potentially involved in an accident can potentially be retained by the police. They should do what they can to expedite matters.
Potentially you had a claim for replacement car hire or loss of use from the insurers of the vehicle the police finally deem responsible for the accident, but I don't know of many people who would supply a credit hire in such circumstances....
