Recently our 1998 seat arosa has developed a strange problem. When driving at light throttle the pedal vibrates (that is moves up and down) of it's own accord. it is not loose in any way and there has been no change in fuel consumption or performance but clearly something isn't right. Can anyone help please?

Cheers,Ben Read more

I suppose it can only be a couple of things causing this problem. It could be the pedal that might be faulty (perhaps check it where you push the pedal by hand), or the cable may have a fault somewhere where it leads to the engine bay. Either these or the cable is getting caught somewhere: I would check the whole unit as it leads to the engine bay!

Sorry I can't be of further help here.

the above car is taking forever to brake and the makes a VERY loud juddering/grinding noise upon braking, the driverside CV joint was replaced last week, also i am not convinced the brakes are an issue as before this saga they were working absolutely fine, the pedal judders almost as if the abs is kicking in but i find this hard to believe as most of the time this is happening in the local streets driving any suggestions or help wopuld be greatly appreciated also could you give any approximate values for a repair job as if too costly it might be heading to the sc*** yard! i big thank you in advance for any suggestions received, much appreciated. Did this happen immediately after the CV was changed?

The ABS 'toothed ring' is usually part of the CV....

on the above car i am finding when braking the brakes are not as responsive as they were before and the car makes a horrible grinding noise, the brake pedal also judders like when abs kicks in however this is happening when i brake slowly so its not like i am emergency stopping, its taking the car a good while to stop as well im not convinced its the brakes themselves as these were perfectly fine before this issue, also the cv joint drivers side was replaced last week and this has started playing up now any suggestions would be welcome, also i do not want to spend too much on this as this is a low value car so any approximate prices would be welcome, then i can decide if i wanna keep it or off to the sc***heap! A big thank you in advance for any replies received, much appreciated. Read more

Given a lot of political commentators are predicting a VAT rise to at least 20% within a year, what has the BR community got to say about the effect this will have on motoring, as this increase is reflected in higher fuel prices and the cost of new vehicles? Read more

It seems that with the new coalition government more people are accepting that tax rises are inevitable and agree they are necessary.

Just keep putting off he investment in a tank and extras. As soon as you buy a tank the fish will die. You are then into a spiral of spending to get replacements to support the spending on the tank.

Took our son for the driving experience in Mini’s at Goodwood – probably got off to a bad start as he started 10 mins late (when you consider its over one pound fifty a minute!) but no time is allowed for the hand over, so you and your predecessor loose time here.

The track and heritage make this a great setting, but our son was not enthusiastic after his drive as he explained the tutor kept stopping him to fill in his progresses book, so if we are very generous he may have just got the 50 minutes they state behind the wheel (well he didn’t!), actual driving was very limited and totally unexciting.

I suppose it’s your level and our son is luckily quite competent behind the wheel and we expected an experience for him, more than just a slow expensive driving lesson. It is advertised as a thrill, but my wife and I watched from the stands and said he will be bored with this, as we watched the car motionless at the side of the track, having done a full 100 yards from the start line. Unfortunately that just continued, a short drive and stop (the stops appeared longer than the drive) so we were bored watching as well !

There are vastly better experiences at airfields and alike, not with the heritage or the fantastic setting, but I would recommend you look around and not get enticed by the marketing – disappointed is my sum-up.

I recently got a 10.2ft glideroll roller door with a merlin 430r electric operator. I was going to get my builder to install it but he said it was better to get it done by a garage door dealer. The builder is widening my garage to enable the new door to be installed. It currently has a 7ft up and over door. The garage is approx 11.5ft wide and the door is approx 11ft long including the rods on each end so its going to be a bit of a squeeze.

I got 2 prices for installation; £205 and £280 incl vat. Does this sound reasonable or should I try to convince the builder to fit it? The building work to widen the garage had included fitting of a 9ft up and over door but I changed my mind and got a auto roller door. The builder has an auto roller door himself but he did not fit it. He thought it would come in "a million pieces" but the parts only consist of: the door, electric operator, 2 brackets and 2 metal guides and about 20 screws and bolts. Should I be safe and get a garage door dealer to install it? Is there anything important I should know? Read more

Googling gliderol roller door gives a site that shows manual door installation in photos and the glderol site has installation instructions under 'support centre'. You may need to run in an electrical feed though.

Alternatively £280 laid out will give you some sort of warranty on the installation....

There will be a master fusible link near the battery positive, its possible that its blown. Had it on a Scenic recently, about £45
