Hi everyone, i have bought a 2nd hand towbar for my astra, it came off the same year/shape/model so i know its the right one, i have also checked the part number with the manufacturer (towequip) but i'm having trouble with fitting. do i need to remove the back bumper to bolt to the chassis? also there is a cross section that appears to fit into the rear cross member of the chassis, but seems impossible to get it in there, any ideas??? My Mondeo has a sort of rubbing/griding noise from the steering especially when turning left and worst at between 30 & 40 MPH. Last year the steering pump was replaced but still the noise. I have tried the Haynes method of bleeding but this proved nothing. Again the Haynes manual suggests using a vacuum pump, but my local garage have never heard of this. I think the problem is from the steering rack area and from the pump failure of last year, but the noise only happens when the car is moving. Anyone got any idea please.

Hi all, long time no post.
Can anyone tell me just out of interest, are car wheel trims supposed to be of aerodynamic design? I see many after market trims fitted on many cars & they seem to me to bulge a little from the wheel. Are OE trims slippery on purpose?... Read more
hello all, long time no post for me also!
A colleague of mine has just purchased a brand new Vauxhall Insignia and we were having a look around it the other day in the office car park. I commented on the nice looking alloy wheels to which he replied they are not alloys, they are steel wheels with wheel trims....
We've had a 2003 Berlingo Desire 1.6 petrol for almost 2 years now, and overall it's been great. Very reliable. Bought it with 40,000, heading for 60,000 miles now and the recent MOT had a few advisories, not to mention the upcoming cambelt change.
Thinking of trading it for a diesel one, maybe 2005 or 2006 if we can get a good price for ours. Just have a few questions about the diesels.... Read more
A/C really pushes your MPG down, you can really hear the engine tone change when you engage a/c as the engine takes the strain. I run a 02 1.9 Diesel with a 50 mpg return but it wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding.

I'm thave BMW 325 tds and the rear wheel bearing is making a slight noise. Tomorrow I've got to drive 230 miles home, will it be alright?

I have driven many thousands of miles on noisy wheel bearings without incident, its unlikely to cause you a problem ..... although there's always a first time of course.
Recently our 1998 seat arosa has developed a strange problem. When driving at light throttle the pedal vibrates (that is moves up and down) of it's own accord. it is not loose in any way and there has been no change in fuel consumption or performance but clearly something isn't right. Can anyone help please?
Cheers,Ben Read more
I suppose it can only be a couple of things causing this problem. It could be the pedal that might be faulty (perhaps check it where you push the pedal by hand), or the cable may have a fault somewhere where it leads to the engine bay. Either these or the cable is getting caught somewhere: I would check the whole unit as it leads to the engine bay!
Sorry I can't be of further help here.
the above car is taking forever to brake and the makes a VERY loud juddering/grinding noise upon braking, the driverside CV joint was replaced last week, also i am not convinced the brakes are an issue as before this saga they were working absolutely fine, the pedal judders almost as if the abs is kicking in but i find this hard to believe as most of the time this is happening in the local streets driving any suggestions or help wopuld be greatly appreciated also could you give any approximate values for a repair job as if too costly it might be heading to the sc*** yard! i big thank you in advance for any suggestions received, much appreciated. Did this happen immediately after the CV was changed?
The ABS 'toothed ring' is usually part of the CV....
on the above car i am finding when braking the brakes are not as responsive as they were before and the car makes a horrible grinding noise, the brake pedal also judders like when abs kicks in however this is happening when i brake slowly so its not like i am emergency stopping, its taking the car a good while to stop as well im not convinced its the brakes themselves as these were perfectly fine before this issue, also the cv joint drivers side was replaced last week and this has started playing up now any suggestions would be welcome, also i do not want to spend too much on this as this is a low value car so any approximate prices would be welcome, then i can decide if i wanna keep it or off to the sc***heap! A big thank you in advance for any replies received, much appreciated. Read more
I think you should have your discs and pads replaced, they do wear out .
Given a lot of political commentators are predicting a VAT rise to at least 20% within a year, what has the BR community got to say about the effect this will have on motoring, as this increase is reflected in higher fuel prices and the cost of new vehicles? Read more
It seems that with the new coalition government more people are accepting that tax rises are inevitable and agree they are necessary.
