Me and a few mates are heading from Cornwall to the Lake District for a few days, via Snowdonia in the not to distant future. Can anybody recommend some nice roads to travel to maximise the pleasure and enjoyment of the trip? Read more
Are any special tools required to replace the lower ball joints? It appears on inspection that removal of the disc should make everything within reach. The car is 03 registered. All hints gratefully received. Delphi parts are on offer. Any thoughts on these? Read more
You'll need a special spring compressor to get the spring tension off then you can remove the bottom arm and using a hydraulic press push the old joint out of the arm and press the new one in.
Unless you are up to speed on this type of repair dont attempt it. The amount of energy in the springs will take your face off if it lets go....
Hi there,
I'm having problems starting my golf diesel mk3, and i've noticed that fuel is not getting to the engine. I checked out the fuel relay and fuse, the fuel filter and it seems that the fuel pump may be the culprit.... Read more
Can be caused by an air leak - Fuel filter connections?
Hi all
Anyone know what might be causing my partners Fiesta to hang on its revs when depressing the clutch or slowing down to a stop. We have disconnected the speedo sensor which has stopped the problem, although there is not a fault with the actual speedo itself. We have been told this is a common fault with Fiestas and is likely to do with a worn nylon cog in the gear box, which will cost around £800 to get fixed.... Read more
I assume their must be but none of the parts shops can tell me what it is, they both seem to be 12v 15w and fit the same holders, but what is the difference in their spec? Read more
Hi. I am about to take delivery of a new i30 Comfort. Can anyone advise on the feasibility of retro-fitting the seat height adjuster subframe to the passenger seat?
On HUK i30's, cars are fitted with height adjusters (& lumbar) only to the drivers seat, but it would e much better for me if this were also on the passenger side. Sadly the dealers would or could not entertain any special order to include these features for me.... Read more
I am unashamedly adding a post to this so as to bring back to the top of the pile! Grateful for any guidance about feasibility of swapping a seat sub frame - even generic answers from non-Hyundai trimmers or body shop experts?
Temporarily hidden the first message and locked the thread, while the mods decide on its future. (Possible naming and shaming)

Has anyone seen a New Astra on the road yet. In the busy South East I think I have only seen one. Not surprised when as I am looking for a new midsized auto I checked the prices on the Vauxhall Web site.
The only two auto options are strangely the basic 1.6ltr which is underpowered and has poor fuel consumption and the most powerfull diesel engine which lists at a staggering 22K plus depending on the version. Then last week I looked at the new Meriva hoping to find something in my budget, but again for the single auto diesel option a list price of over £20k... Read more
Just wondering, does it have to be an automatic ?
I've driven several variants of the new Astra but not an automatic. It is a superb car to live with day to day and a joy to drive, quality build throughout, more refined that a Focus and at least the quality of a Golf. The 1.4 VVT's and 1.6 VVT versions are a bit under powered for the weight of the car but they are refined and deliver fairly good fuel economy. The 1.4T and 1.6T are both refined and flexible engines and pull the car along easily. The 1.7 CDTi (2 states of tune) and 2.0 CDTi versions both pull well with good fuel economy, the 1.3 CDTi is even more frugal, the diesel engines and all slightly more vocal than the petrol engines.
Focus drivers, if you want a car without road noise then choose an Astra with 16" wheels, you'll get a superbly comfortable ride with road noise silenced, it really is that good....
I'm changing the outer CV joint (passenger side).
Whilst trying to get the old on off I pulled the driveshaft and seperated the inner joint ( still mounted in the car).... Read more
Ok, Job done.
This was more than just pushing the tripod back in....
Audi A3 1.6FSI 2005
Have just bought above car and was wondering if it is wise to use a petrol/injector cleaner on this engine. I have always used Red Line SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner as part of the servicing on my old Audi 80 2.0 1995my. Due to the 1.6FSI being a modern engine, is it safe to use on this engine? Red Line high temperature detergents use surface active chemistry which cleans effectively and safely. Read more
