My parents think the brakelights do not work when the vehicle first moves off. They live at the top of a hill and at the first bend the brakes are applied, but no rear lights show and there are no warning lamps on the dash. On arriving at the destination the brake lights function normally, anyone any ideas? Read more

bmw 328 ci coupe 2000 w reg, my battery went dead for my fault, jumped the car with jumpleads, started straight up, but now my power steering does not work and you cant hear the power steering noise and can only just about turn steering wheel, i want to know is there a fuse or relay that runs it that i can look at before i look at the pump, i have checked the fuses in glovebox but they are all ok, are there any more fuses to try ????, thankyou in advance Read more

The drivers elec window on my A4 will not stay up! It reaches the top and then decides to return downwards. The only way to get it to remain up is to move it inches at a time - it will then remain where it should be. Any ideas please? Read more
Sounds as though the window mechanism is detecting tightness as the window approaches closure, and it is backing off as it should when a child has its arm in the window for example.
It could just be some debris dirt or damage in the window channel. Try checking these channels and cleaning the edge of the window.
I am in the market for a family vehicle that has an element of "cool" left over despite kids in the backseat (comfortably). I have narrowed my selection down to the X1 (1,8 SDrive),Qashqai 2litre petrol and the Subaru Forrester2.5XS. Their specs are similar and prices to.As indicated by my subject that I have a bias towards the X1 given my family history with the brand but in this day and age it doesnt count for that much.

Don't they do the rear view camera? as per xtrail, i find it a god send.
Agree that the auto lights are a pain, and the auto wipers are sometimes slower than i would like, but the keyless ignition,(assuming it's the same as the xtrail, on all three counts) is quite wonderful, i put the fob on my key ring as always, but it never leaves my pocket, very useful to just push a button on the front doors or boot, when your hands are full....
Wife bought a new micra yesterday.No temp Gauge on this just a blue light and a red light.Blue light should go out at 55 c. It should show no light as normal and red light at 105c. So normal running -no light showing.

Is the heater giving a good blast of hot air? If so you probably have a sensor fault, if not, thermostat. Also check the radiator temperature soon after you have started the car, if it starts getting warm fairly soon - thermostat. It should stay cold until the engine reaches normal running temperature.
The turbo failed on this car 3000 miles from new with knocking and white fumes. Has anyone else suffered this? What is the prognosis after the guarantee repair?

It's not a 1.4TSI by any chance? Demand for that particular engine (used in various VW Group models) seems to have outstripped supply since not long after it was introduced.
