On my old Mazda 626 I cleaned the leather upholstery with hot soapy water applied with a sponge, allowed to dry, then used autoglym Leather Care Cream. at 12 years old it did not make much difference, but on my 'new' convertible there is ingrained dirt on the leather which does not come off using this method.
The fabric hood is also pretty filthy. How best to clean this please without reducing its water repellency?... Read more
Lets assume that we are considering motorway type driving in free flow conditions.
Just wondering if anyone has mucked around with this or has the facts? Read more
My auto diesel seems to be better with cc. Uphill it only does what's required to keep the speed constant and on downslopes it more or less coasts along. Watching the fuel consumption gauge i found gentle inclines that i never knew existed before - it was only when the gauge dropped that i noticed. it's also nice to watch it move to over 50mpg on the downslopes.
Hello everyone, can someone help?
The fuel pump failed and was replaced by access to tank gained by cutting floor. replacement pump( from the states) runs and fuel arrives at the pressure regulating valve located at the rear of the rocker cover, this is checked by breaking into the lines at the wheel well, but does not pressurise the fuel system and there is no fuel to allow the engine to fire, sounds a bit af a coincidence that the pressure regulating valve should have failed at the same time, anyone with clues or advice? all very much appreciated, thanks, Mike.... Have you checked the relay?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can offer assistance?
My Ford Mondeo ST24 has become a challenge to drive on certain types of road, and it's quite unenjoyable. I picked the car up at a very reasonable price last year and knew it needed a few bits done. The front anti-roll bar links were knocking so replaced them (admittedly, with cheap ones). all four front wishbone bushes were hammered so replaced both arms over the new year. I had a four wheel alignment done after this too.... Read more
As said above, I have also found my Mondeo II 2.0 Zetec estate very sensitive to small amounts of wear in the front suspension. The car had some strange tyre wear, which was caused by soft rear suspnesion and a previous owner having fitted diesel front springs on a petrol! I than fitted new springs and Bilstein B4 shock absorbers.
Having got the springs/shocks right I have progressively replaced the front sub frame bushes, the anti roll bar bushes and the front lower suspension arms and each time the steering has improved and the tram lining diminished. None of these was an MOT failure but there was an advisory on one lower arm bush. After 2.5 years of ownership my 2000 model now feels very close to the 1998 model I had as a company car in 2000. The lower arms came from a well known parts importer who has now branched out into most models and the arms seem all but identical to the Ford ones fitted by the last owner's dealer about 4 years ago....
Just pondering getting either a Focus Estate, C-Max or Octavia Estate - are any of these more resilient to our wonderful pot-hole / speed bump ridden streets? In particular the bump by Furniture Village in Southampton West Quay :-)
Or any other makes to consider of that ilk. Budget of up to 8K , used mainly for lugging kids around, camping trips so S of France and several 600 mile round trips to Yorkshire.... Read more
"also, one of the other motoring websites has fairly detailed diagrams of car's dimensions (internal and external) but I can't find it now. can anyone help?"
It's this one: click on Home and go to car reviews, then for your chosen model gop to prices, then 'details' on the right of the screen. Octavia estate is 4569 mm long, Focus estate 4468 mm.
Spotted a marroon new shape Jaguar XJ on the M5 near clevedon last Saturday. Can only say the pictures really don't do the car any justice. From the pics, wasn't too sure about the rear, but on the road it looks fantastic.
at first, looking in the mirrors I did briefly think it was an XF. Soon realised it wasn't as it looks a lot sleeker, and the frontal impact comes across more as a sports car, seemingly lower and wider than the XFs.... Read more
edit.
I'm pleased to say it's been absolutely fine.
No faults or problems, although I had the tracking fine tuned to set it up perfectly. Front pads just done at 17,500 miles as they were very low. ... Read more
Dealers seem to still be asking £8K or thereabouts for a CTS - Stratstone shifted hundreds last year at this time for £6k-£7K depending on engine and model - £6-£7K 12 months ago looks to have been the bottom of the market - 12 months on they have gone up £1,000-£1,500.
"Depreciation free motoring for a year" well not quite as there is the difference in the BP & SP to take into account if you are selling.
I'm in a terrible dilemma. I'm a 23-year old male, and I want to buy a new car.
I've finally narrowed myself down to either a Volvo C30 1.6D SE Drive, or a Volkswagen 1.6TDI SE Bluemotion (5dr). They're both a similar price for similar spec. They both have similar economy/emissions/VED price. They're both great looking cars. ... Read more
I think your dilemma is whether or not to have a coupe. If you want a coupe, you need to like what it looks like - that's the only reason to have a coupe. as rightly suggested above, VW's rival to the C30 is the Scirocco, which is more expensive, and you can't have it with the 1.6 TDI.
If you want a 5-door hatch to rival the Golf, you'll have to look elsewhere than Volvo....
With aNPR and taxing vehicles online there are now computer cross references to check if vehicles have relevant MOT or insurance.
Would it be a good idea also to incorporate a section on the MOT test which requires a current tax disc and insurance certificate, before a vehicle is passed. Read more
I'm sure the system would suit the majority and a way of dealing with SORN'd vehicles could be incorporated as a seperate matter.
hi
went up and down the m6 the other weekend manchester to swindon, passing through quite a number of spec controlled roadworks. i kept to the signed limit but was surprised how many drivers were driving at well over the signed limit. do they know something others don't or do they not know what spec camera's are or do they not have the self control to drive at the stated limit. some must have been at well over 70 mph.... We have them on the M3 too. and like yours are ignored by many. I try the changing lane bit but not sure if it works. I try to stick to speed limts in a vain one man attemt to bankrupt the camera people. If they never catch anyone they might just go away....I also think I will win the lottery and be invited out by Uma Thurman who will tell me I'm irresistible.
Not sure about the leather but there are cleaner/waterproofing products.Used one last summer, first you vacuum the hood then use the cleaner, leave to dry then put on the conditioner, worked pretty well. Maybe asking at places that sell leather sofas might give some ideas on the seats.
