hello all,

My wife crashed into someone a few weeks back and damaged the bonnet, grille and front bumper of our car. The car is deemed a write-off, and as our excess was £300, i have been offered £700 by the insurance company - it's the £1000 that i said the car was worth when i renewed the insurance less the excess. i said it was worth £1000 as i didn't really have a clue what it was worth and guessed.. doh..... hello all, i have a berlingo 1.9D year 2000 with the DW8b engine (WJY) and 112000 miles. Sometimes when the engine is hot it starts rough and the idle is low at 500 rpm, i have to hold it on the accelerator for 30 seconds or more until it settles or it will stall.

if i let it stall it struggles to start again but does start. This happens after driving 40+ miles and only if i leave it for 20 to 30 minutes. i can stop it and restart it no problems but leave it a while the problem occurs.... Read more

Its 1.6 petrol manual with 65k on the clock hence the low price. Mazda DHR, immaculate in/outside, however.

Yes, i’m between Warranty Direct and Car Care Plan that dealer recommends. With pretty much the same ‘total care’ cover WD comes £80 more, CCP is £180 per year. Depends on payouts i guess.

is there a known problem with the tensioner stud coming loose on Passat diesel's. The car in question is a 55 year not sure of engine type or size. Neighbour changed the belt on one and now the stud keeps coming loose. He is meticuleus and used a calibrated digital torque wrench to the correct torque. We are guessing at some point someone may have overtightened it . it torques up ok then comes loose hours later luckily no damage each time (3). can anyone suggest a remedy heli coil, super duper locking compound etc

i forgot to mention VW Mech said they take out the studs and give a dose of "JP Weld" when they work on these cars.

I recently had need to purchase a car. The reason was to enable me to keep working and functioning as a productive member of society, as long as possible whilst I undergo what could be a lengthy period of hospital treatment.

I only earn a minimum wage, my partner is a mature student, so money is tight. We could not afford anything from a garage or dealer, new or nearly new. We were not willing to take credit either in these uncertain times, only a fool would have granted it us anyway, so we did not bother looking down that road.... Read more

Hi everyone,

Ok... this morning we went to start the van up & everything went as normal but with a difference... The engine is making a loud banging, shaking noise like it constantly hitting something & there is a LOT of smoke coming from the exhaust when we accelerate (in neutral) we had a look at the engine, oil is fine, coolant etc all ok. but the engine is shaking like mad! The noise when it's revved rattles even more.... Read more

I am looking for some legal advice on tyre depth. I have purchased a used car, with tyres which I think are below the legal depth of 1.6mm. The dealer said if they were found to be below 1.6mm then they would be replaced.

currently he is checking the car over before I collect it. I was wondering if the dealer finds that these tyres are below the legal requirement should he then bear the cost? Read more
