IIRC You can also drive the Kitten on a b1 motorcycle licence provided its recorded weight on the V5c is less than 550kg.
There was a trio of them where I last worked. The owner of one lost it on an icy morning and it ended up on its side. He righted it and carried on to work after improvising the broken throttle cable with a piece of string. Apart from the cable only the door mirror was broken.
One of the others, an Estate, was sold legitimately and used a couple of days later in a Post Office heist!
The SU float chamber overflow problem has been the death of quite a few plastic pigs. A modified float chamber cover is available from Burlen Services in Salisbury. This has an outlet stub to enable a pipe to be fitted directing the fuel far away from hot/sparking things.
I still have mine though I gave up driving it regularly knowing the opposition was not only getting more numerous and stupid but they were all now encouched in airbags and what-have-you. As of course I am in my Avensis or SAAB 900.
I still enjoy an occasional run in the Kitten with its go-kart feel but not the all drum non-servo brakes nor working on the engine which gives me awful backache.

Last night when I arrived back at home from work and parked up, my TT would not lock with the central locking on my usual key. Thinking it was maybe the battery in the key (even though the key had worked perfectly fine and from long range up till then), I got my spare key and centrally locked the car with that.

Upon coming out to drive to work this morning, I centrally unlocked the car with my spare key only to find that it would not start despite several attempts. Each time it would turn over once and then immediately shut down. Upon central locking the car again and getting my main key, the main key centrally unlocked the car and started the engine.

Whilst that may sound fine, I am now concerned that I may end up stuck at work with either a car that won't open, won't lock or won't start. Anyone know what might have caused this? The only other bit of pertinent information I can think of is that, in getting into the car to drive home last night, I think I might have pressed the locking button on my key as I was starting the car, as I seem to recall the hazard light button blinking twice. Did that inadvertently trigger some security mechanism or am I looking at a trip to the garage and nice hefty bill (as seems to come with the territory on TTs, it would seem)?

Son's Lexus had a battery problem last Friday.

Charged battery but we could not start it - turns out the alarm/immobiliser was needing reset - AA Man obliged in the end after we were defeated.

Hi,

What is the lowest temperature that the A/C system will work to clear the windscreen on my 53 reg car?

I suppose that it differs slightly but there must be a temperature at which there's no point having it on. I like to run it up every couple of weeks to keep it working OK. If the temperature's too low will the compressor even engage?

Thanks.

Steve.

Thanks for the info guys. About 5 degrees C seems to be the cutoff point
on the C5.

Maybe mine is broken then, appears to cut in until 1 degree.

I'd have thought using a suitable washer mix would meet most requirements.

Although many years ago I did make a little brass heat exchanger that plumbed into my Mini heater and screen washer system!

Please lets not go down this road - already discussed at length in the above thread and that thread refers to another thread (along with a link) where it was discussed before. Link through by all means !

I have just finished listening to the latest tosh from Jeremy Whine on R2 about a farmer who accelerated trying to get his way out of a snaking trailer with 3 bullocks in it, because TG said that's the way you do it. Unfortunately, his 83 year old passenger died. Apparently his lack of seat belt had nothing to do with it. Then we had the compulsory rant by some 'authority/spokeperson' against TG.

If that influential broadcasting, bring it on. Perhaps JC can say that overthrowing the present government is a good thing. Read more

I presume you don't tow then Mr X, otherwise the cost of what you are suggesting test would just be another tax on the motorist?

I've got a 2004 Renault Scenic 1.4 Authentic that has a warm starting problem.

It starts fine when cold, and also restarts fine when warm if restarted immediatley, but if the car has been left for anything more than about 15 minutes and you try to start it, it fires OK but then almost immediatley dies. You can repeat this up to 3 or 4 times before the engine will idle successfully. If you can catch it on the accelerator you can keep it revving and then it's OK. I've changed the crankshaft positioning sensor & the air inlet temperature sensor. I was going to change the engine coolant temperature sensor next. Has anybody else had a similar problem ? Thanks for the reply.

I forgot to say in the problem description that I've there are no fault codes showing on the ecu. My local garage plugged their fault code reader into the diagnostic port and didn't find any problems.

From HJ's breakdown:

"The engine that Volvo Cars has chosen for the Volvo S60 Concept is a four-cylinder 1.6-litre petrol unit using high-efficiency GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) technology and producing 180 horsepower. In a conventional petrol engine, fuel is injected into the inlet manifold ahead of the inlet valves. With direct injection, however, the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber under high pressure. The engine in combination with a range of other technical measures makes it possible to cut carbon dioxide emissions to 119g/km."

Is Volvo serious about introducing this engine into the production version? Those figures are incredible, and must give diesel buyers something to think about, given that 119g/km has to be accompanied by mpg figures somewhere up towards the 50's, and on fuel that's still about 12p per litre cheaper. I have the prececessor to this car with an engine making the same power output but from 400cc more and with 100g of extra CO2 per km. To me, this is real progress in terms of raw figures, although I would miss the five pot burble.

The other thing that strikes me is that direct injection petrol engines such as the VW FSI and Ford SCi (and probably others) have a pretty poor reputation for reliability and engine longevity, so has Volvo done something different? It's strange to think that the manufacturer with probably the greatest reputation for product longevity and long term reliability in the industry would showcase a technology that is inherently flawed. Or has the green argument won over common sense (as with DPF)?

Thoughts?

Ah! Impressed. Ceramics. Rather like Corsa camshafts. Light, even hollow, but not very robust:)

Rattle

Sorry for the people who have read me mention this on my other thread, I thought a lot of people who post in tehncical may have missed it and I can't seem to get any answer.

My car started to become lumpy in 3rd gear, and just after the clutch has started to the slip. If I got a new plate and release bearing would this likely to cause the problem or would I have more big bills?
