The D.I.L. has aquired a Corsa 1.7 diesel, 1997 vinntage with 155/70/13 tyres but no handbook.

Would anyone know the correct tyre pressures?

Many thanks in advance. Read more

Is there not a sticker ....

I've not seen a Vauxhall yet that has one in any of those locations. I have wrote my pressures on a slip of paper that I keep just inside the vinyl wallet that the handbook and stereo books slide into.

I would like to nominate Basingstoke for the daftest road furniture in the country.. and its getting worse. Dual carriageways with silly islands that turn it into a single lane, humps that serve no purpose at all, raods half blocked with give way to on coming traffic signs,
entrances to roads narrowed so that one going out has to wait for the one coming in. Silly little mini roundabouts, I could go on and on, our roads here are being systematically degraded so the place resembles an obstacle course. Read more

>As the road is 6-lane you can imagine
the amount of lane-switching that has to take place.

Can you imagine.... FOUR lanes of mimsers!

I thought last night's Top Gear was the most interesting for a while (but they could have still got the hours program down to 30mins IMO).

From what I know about the Honda, they currently cost about $840,000 to produce and they are producing a limited leasing program for $600 a month in California, there are only 5 filling stations.

Honda have said that there are 10 years away from a full production model, and that there is a market if they can get the price down to $84,000.

This is what I understand to be correct, but I'm willing to be corrected! Read more

Perhaps a bit of a laugh before they got rid of the Liana

They still have the Liana. In the last series they were using it for the F1 boys to do a lap. I think Lewis was the last one to drive it and got the closest to The Stigs time.

Belt change at 60,000 on the 2.5 (and also on the 2.0 I would imagine). My 60K service including the belt change was a tad over GBP 600.

As this car doesn't get used much, how do I keep the fuel tank/lines etc dry and stop fungus (or whatever it's called) from growing? It's kept in a cold garage with lot's of condensation.

I give it some Millers every so often (for what it's worth), but not sure if this will help to keep it dry etc. Read more

Keep the fuel tank full as possible all the time in winter (to exclude moisture laden air) and drain any water from the fuel filter. Fit a new one if its a canister type. Don`t use `de-watering` additives that can get rid of water by taking it through the pump.

I noticed a main dealer in the South had pre - registered cars for sale. Registered in September - and lots of demonstrators with a few miles on the clock. Photographing them in front of Summer trees and foliage - perhaps seemed attractive at the time.. Now, on their website, it seems weird to see in the depths of December and about to roll over into 2009 in just over 2 weeks.
Looking further - it seems its a large percentage of their stock has age clues even on other (non foliage) shots the sun is high and bright - as depicted by the shadows.

(Funny things backgrounds in photos they can reveal or deflect from the real picture ....)

I know the factories are reducing output and airfields are seemingly well stocked.. But perhaps re-photographing the stock with bare trees in the background would make it a little less unnerving?
How long can you leave Summer leaves shots of new stock like that? Without it seeming like the `Outer Limits` visiting the site. Read more

Some of the Phaetons were very reasonable... and a lot is shared/given to the Bentley which is heavily based on it.... Nice.

But a single failure could cost a fortune - like it would on a BMW 7-series, MB S-Class, Audi A8, Lexus LS430 etc.

Not bangernomics at all but a lot of car for your money.

I don't see the point of having parking bikes on motorbikes. Even less do I see the wisdom of using them at night instead of dipped headlights as I saw twice last week. One was only a little scooter but the other was a half decent size bike going at a fair speed with a just silly little light less than a quarter as bright as my cycle light. It was pitch black and not just dusk and on an ordinary suburban road with street lights no better than average at best. Bikers, (and I used to be one) say motorists should look out for them but they have to do their bit as well. Read more

Headlights are wired permanently "on" with both my 2004 Sportster and wifey's 1996 model.

I don't intend to change that; Mr. SMIDSY needs all the help he can get!

Some praise for my local Tesco store. Since a revsion of their carpark layout, they now have wardens who patrol the disabled spaces relentlessly - even before you get out of the car they are on you, checking your badge.

Its proactive and all I can say is well done to them, I checked and unlike days of old where only half or so of the approx 15 spaces had badges, now all do - those who pull in without one are moved on quickly. Its a joy to watch. Read more

Yes, I did google it and couldn't find it. Calm down, dear.

'Motorcyclists have disrupted traffic by riding slowly through central London in protest at parking fees.
Since August motorcyclists and moped riders have been required to pay £1.50 a day to use West End parking bays.
Around 100 bikers rode from Golden Square around the West End as part of a campaign to have the fees withdrawn and for any fines to be refunded.
A Westminster City Council spokeswoman said the parking fee scheme would not be abolished. The No To Bike Parking Fees campaign group describes the scheme as "a dangerous piece of anti-biker legislation" that "seems totally contrary" to the city's anti-congestion initiatives.
Spokesman Warren Djanogly said: "We can create havoc if that's what we want.
"We don't cause congestion but if that's what Westminster wants us to do to prove a point, that's what we'll do."
A council spokesman said the changes were needed to meet an increased demand for motorcycle parking following the introduction of the congestion charge.
He said the number of parking spaces for motorbikes in central London increased from 4,500 to 6,400 and new security stands were installed.
On average about 16,000 motorcyclists ride into central London every day, up 40% from 10 years ago, the council spokesman added. "

So their argument seems to be that they don't cause any congestion ?
They do however run on petrol and that does ( as we are constantly told, cause climate change ) How ever, the demo was about parking fees, not the congestion charge so it looks like they are just being awkward for the sake of it in my opinion.
'Spokesman Warren Djanogly said: "We can create havoc if that's what we want.'
Nice chap.

I have done 65,000 miles on my present motorbike, but now have a lesser commute so I cycle. Unlike the cycle, there is no greater moral rectitude in a bike than a car, so they should pay proportionate dues in terms of parking and congestion tax. Probably the best way, since the infrastructure is already there (?- can they film the rear facing licence plate?) is to introduce a considerably lower bike congestion charge and make the parking free again- then the losers would only be those who happen to have free bike parking already. You can't please all of the people all of the time.
