My son's Mk 1 Punto SX 85 today failed its MOT..amongst the items which came up were "excessive play in pin/bush" for both offside and nearside rear radius arms.
I wouldnt know a radius arm if someone hit me over the head with one, and my Haynes gives no clues, talking only about trailing arms--is this the same thing?
Any info as to what might be involved to sort this would be appreciated. Is it feasibly a DIY job? Are we talking replacement of the arms, or can this be sorted by a bush replacement? I really am in the dark.
Cheers in advance. Read more

So we have a US neoconservative government which owns half the country's mortgages major insurance
co. possibly car manufacturers soon etc. bankrolled by Chinese communists and Middle Eastern oligarchy.. Hmm...?
While consumer capitalism, Western Style* has been eating itself over the last decade or so the Middle-Eastern oligarchs and Chinese and Russian former-communists have been working out another way of doing business: state capitalism. We'd better get used to it I think.
*Which isn't really capitalism because the capitalists don't own the means of production. They flogged it all the Middle-Eastern oligarchs and Chinese and Russian former-communists.

Hi,my first post and thanks for reading.I have just got a 54 plate 2.0l with 55k mls,i have read about and understand the theory behind the regen cycle but have read conflicting views on what conditions have to be met for it to happen i.e.engine revs, gear and how long to keep it steady.what triggers the cycle and can you tell it is happening when you are driving?also can you top up the eolys additive before it gets down to the low level warning stage? Thanks. Theoretically.... it shouldn't do that. However; re-gen parameters are now verging on the desperate [I've been told of 2 mins over 30 from both Vaux and VW.]
The fan run-on is a recent characteristic of exclusively DPF-equipped cars; so I'd think that it has indeed started the procedure and the fan stays on to try and cool the FAP to prevent the Zafira "panic bail-out at the lights" syndrome.
The only other explanation is that one of the exhaust temp sensors is flagging an over hot exhaust. Slow driving conditions/unloading may make that plausible - even without a re-gen.
Got a water mark on the air filter cover, below the drivers side wind screen water jet. The water is tracking around the filter and dripping onto the engine electrics. Has this problem been fixed by Ford, do the later models suffer from this. Have Ford changed the design? Read more
The answer is yes, new washer nozzles have a rubber seal to seal between the bonnet and the nozzle. Fitted two new ones and water disappeared - only cost a couple of quid each.
After a rear end shunt from a Range Rover, my Focus is in the garage for repairs. (insurance approved place). I have been told by a none mechanic friend as it was a bumper that's cracked and the boot lock damaged it may be chassis damage, as I have a tow bar fitted and the RR didn't actually make contact with the car itself!
Now, its a 1999 (T) 1.8 tddi LX with over 100k miles on the clock, if the insurance decide to write it off, as a purely rough estimate, what am i looking at?
I have no dealings with insurance to fall back on, and want a fair price. I always thought that they have an obligation to put you in the position you was in before any accident?
Wouldn't that mean finding an exact (or close) car to replace mine. I have seen a Y plate that's obviously newer, but at £2500 is it realistic to hold out for that sort of cash from insurance?
Sorry its long winded, any advice appreciated. Read more
My 2001 Y octavia was destroyed in a hit and run recently, good condition fsh but 140k on the clock. My insurance payed out £3400 less £150 excess, apparently after they checked online. I was so shocked i forgot to haggle. Took a week or two but found 52 plate same model, colour and condition for £2500.
I have a problem with my 03 MB E320 CDi inasmuch as no matter where you direct the airflow from the heater it will only direct air to the windscreen which I assume is a failsafe. I have not yet started to remove the centre console to examine the heater but assume that the vents are manipulated with little vacuum motors in which case first port of call will be the vacuum source. After that.............
Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks for the response E&A/C Doc. Whilst diagnosing another fault on the car with the EGR valve I discovered a fractured rigid vacuum hose about 6" away from the EGR controller. I repaired this and took it for a drive then happily found the heater controls were working again, the vac leak at the EGR valve effectively took out the heating system.
I remember when you had little levers on the dashboard with hot/cold, screen/feet................................

I'm definately no computer whizz, but today i'm having difficulty using the site, i can read about 2 pages and then when i select another page, the computer seems to freeze and if i try to go back after a few seconds a message appears about some dodgy script running and causing IE7 to slow down and i have to close the site and fire up again.
Am i doing something wrong, probably, or are others having similar problems.
This is occuring on both computers, but only on the HJ site. Read more
I thought people said it wasnt the HJ site that was creating these?
I do not recall any such comment.
However, hints on how to deal with it are within this as well as the previous adware thread.
Thanks, Rob--much obliged.
