Just been on a 75 mile trip and discovered that the OSF wheel is hot to the touch, while the NSF is quite cool. The OSF also squeaks when under load.
It has only a few days ago had the brake fluid changed and the NSF had a sticky caliper which was rectified but this new problem is new as of yesterday.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Read more

Thought I would make one thread rather than two when I replaced the air filter today I noticed one of the plugs had rusted into the cylinder head. I decided the best thing do is leave well alone, the engine is running perfectly atm and it does not miss fire, but what happens when the plug fails? Is this a cylinder head off job and is this a huge job in terms of labour?
Secondly the throttle pedal feels a little bit loose, it could do with tightening this up, is this an easy job to do myself?
Thanks
PS Sorry for all the questions about my car just want to get the little niggles fixed. Read more
Thanks NC, will give it a go then report back if there is a problem.
I'm suffering from "surging" under acceleration in my '04 Roadster. When accelerating from around 3500 rpm on about 75% throttle the car responds without any lag, the boost gauge swings up towards 1.5 but then without any alteration in throttle, the boost gauge drops back with a corresponding loss in acceleration. It picks up again immediately and then drops again. In a previous ownership the car has been remapped to 105bhp by Smart specialists and it is fitted with a "Forge" dump valve. I believe the latter was fitted in an attempt to smooth out the gearchanges. Read more
Hi there new to the forum so hi to everyone, just a quick question that members may be able to help with.I have a Rover Metro 1.1s that I have replaced the radiator in but I am having trouble bleeding the air from the system.Does anyone have a foolproof way of bleeding the car Thanks Dave. Read more
The secret is to fill the system very slowly and ensure that both bleed points are open.
Squeezing the hoses (including the heater) whilst filling also helps.
I'm hoping someone out there has the same Berlingo as me, or others are experiancing the same symptoms as I am. My motor is the 2008 1.6 HDI 92Desire. Now sometimes when I'm in, say, top gear & release the accelerator when doing app 35ish, as the speed drops & just as the engine starts to labour (still in top) the engine picks up & the car simply keeps going. My foot is nowhere near the gas pedal, but it is without doubt still maintaining around 28/30mph, I can feel it driving & definitely not on over-run. The pedal is not sticking, because if I then dip the clutch, the revs ease down from just over 1000rpm to app 950/1000rpm. Whereas if the pedal was sticking the revs would rise. I've also noticed this in 4th gear in the same scenario. My dealer at first said that they are all like that???? But when I insisted that I'd been in the trade myself as a mechanic & never come across anything like it, he booked it in to be checked out & found nothing. I think there is something amiss, because my mpg is crap. If I get in touch with Citroen Technical, they'll simply refer me to my dealer. Anyone shed any light on this phenomenon?
Cheers

still only 2600mls on the clock
my dealer says that's crap as the engine should have loosened up quiet a bit by now
At 2600 miles, it's not even run in yet.
I have included the make of my car in case it is relevant to my question.
My Jazz is 2 1/2 years old and has covered 17000 miles.
Until May this year the tyres have lost pressure in a manner I would expect - equal across all tyres.
Since May [I keep records] loss has been random - once the steering and brakes felt so odd I returned home. On checking, both off side tyres were down 3 lbs more than the n/s pair.
The latest check revealed the o/s front and n/s rear to be down while the others were fine.
The Jazz is sensitive to pressure loss and I am usually aware of the need to check.
I am at a loss [pun intended] to explain this and would welcome any ideas.
I did wonder if my pump was at fault but after adjustment the car feels fine and drives like it always has.

What about the valves? Are the cores in tight?
The New York Times ran a pair of articles this week about Presidential motor cars, which have evolved over the last century from an off-the-shelf steam-driven car through limousines reinforced with armour-plating, to the latest creation which appears to be a completely custom-built car on a truck chassis.
The first article looks at the history: Executive Privilege, All Stretched Out and Armored, at www.nytimes.com/2008/11/02/automobiles/collectible...l

you can bet your bottom dollar the commander in chief never has to raid local scrap yards for steel to reinforce his vehicle because its plan is so poorly thought out :-)

I had exactly the same model (Focus 03 plate 1.8TDCi I had it from new it was 4yrs old with 22K on the clock and up to then was perfectly OK) with exactly the same characteristics, and once in a while it would not even start and had to be towed into ford dealer.
The first bill was £1922 and this included all the items youve had plus a new diesel pump etc.
A week later the car showed exactly the same problem. so it went on.
This issue ran and ran for some six months I did get some money back off Ford via the customer relationship centre who were generally hopeless and tried to 'lose' me a few times. but to get that money was a nightmare .
Eventually after six months of a nightmare It was towed yet again Xmas 2007 to the ford dealer who wanted to treat it as a NEW problem
I am a carer and need a car so I at that point traded it at book value for a 1.8 (this time petrol) Focus.
I am very sore over the way Ford treated me and remain amazed that over 6 months the Ford dealer could not solve the problem and let my car go to auction rather than sell it again. (once they had it in for 5 weeks)
I had no choice at the time to trade for a ford given my old one was broken at the dealers but I will NEVER buy a for, and will look to trade out of Ford as soon as I can.
Hi, new contributor here.
Took delivery of the above during the week as a company car purchase as my 55 plate Mondeo 2.0 tdci Titanium X Estate was 3k away from the 100k serice and 6 weeks away from its first MOT.
Some initial thoughts that spring to mind:
It looks good in the Sunlight Silver (I initially wanted Lilac Silver but couldn't do with the 4-6 week wait)
In the reviews I've read the engine gets slated for being 'agricultural'. It sounds far less like a tractor than the Mondeo ever did from new.
I still prefer the Mondeo for roadholding, grip and general confidence you get from 'knowing' a car, especially the original set up I had on Continentals all round
The running lights are a pain and are causing annoyance to other road users. They are permanently on so I really don't see the point of the auto lights function. I've resorted to driving around on parking (i.e side lights) during the day
The handbook is an inch thick. It took me 10 minutes to suss out how to change the clock and pair my mobiles with the Bluetooth facility. Ford's always score in this department in that the 'technology' they build in is always user friendly and you don't usually need to have to resort to a handbook to find your way round to set things up
I like the shape of the Mazda and several people have commented on it...it regularly gets mistaken for being a Lexus at first followed by the 'I didn't realise Mazda made cars like that' comment afterwards
The driver seat could do with being able to be lowered by another inch or so
The Bose sound system is 'ok', but nowhere near as good as the one I had in a Y reg 2.4JTD 156 Veloce a few years back
I was originally going to get a 1.8 tdci Titanium X Mondeo but the waiting list put me off. Apart from the heated front windscreen (and I could have done with that this morning) the spec is as good if not better in the 6

Nothing's cheap on a Daihatsu, if you have to go to Daihatsu to get the part, which you usually do.
Latest example is front oxygen sensor for our Charade at £150.
