Hey first post on here, Yesterday i changed 3 glow plugs on my 97 rover 2L diesel. Although a bit futtery i got the job done, How ever now that i have re-connected everything. When i turn my ignition on i get no glow plug light on my dash. I have 12V upto the relay but after that i dont no what is happening. Also there is no 12V at the glow plugs. Any help here would be much appriciated.

Hi.

Did you try and start it before you found the broken lead? If so it could be that another 'earth' elsewhere has been burnt out in the attempt to start the engine.

A Haynes manual (if they do one) and a multimeter may be your best bet, along with checking ALL the fuses.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Steve.

Hello All,

Non ABS Fiesta - 3 door hatchback - endura engine. I've got new drums for the back cause the old ones were slightly oval and rubbing - plus a lot of rust too.

The new drum is missing the bearing bit - is this something I need to purchase and fit - or purchase and get a garage to do?

Cheers,

Hi Andrew,

thanks for that - i'll probably drop them into the local garage - so its done square!

Having a check over my 53 reg Corolla this am before it goes for MOT next week and I grabbed the front near side wheel whilst stationary and gave it a good push and pull.
It felt a little loose with a small knocking noise.
Could anyone advise what it is likely to be (recognising it may be one or two of a number of things).
Many thanks in advance. Read more

Well you really need to jack it up to get to the bottom of whats what with it all, but if it feels 'loose' whilst on the ground and there is a slight knocking noise then it sounds in need of urgent attention. It could be a wheel bearing gone.

We have to replace my wifes 12 Year old Trusty Toyota Starlet as someone has reversed into the back and it has cuased £750 worth of damage. Buckled boot floor and damaged bumper. Even a local backstreet body shop wanted almost that much. It has done 80K and we owned for 9 years. It has never let us down at all and only ever cost us a service breaks and Tyres. Exahust/clutch etc all as new. What a car!

Trouble is want something equally as reliable

Now we have to replace any thoughts on the Honda Jazz or the Toyota Corolla.

Looking to spend from 4-5K Max. Read more

ISOFIX is a standard for the fixings only, not for car design and each seat needs to be tested on every car to get a compliance certificate.

We struggled to find one which fitted the Aygo and the A3 - we sacked the idea in the end.

Hi.

I've been looking at the Ford Mondeo and the Skoda Octavia, both diesel variants.

The Mondeo has always played in the top end of its class but, from what I can see and what I've heard, the Octavia may be equally as good an option.

Can any owners and/or those who have driven these cars give me your opinions?

- Which engine is better; the Ford TDCi or the Volkswagen TDi?

- Driving dynamics; which one can be swept in to the corners more efficiently?

- Cabin experience; which one is the most comfortable to drive?

- Reliability; which one is more reliable? Parts are cheaper for the Mondeo but, would it prove to be more problematic than the Octavia?

For me, it's not about looks and/or the badge appeal. So, which car is the better one to go for, in terms of the technical/logistical aspects (above) and the driving experience, and why?

Thanks! Read more

I currenly drive an Octavia 1.9 TDI. O previusly owned a C Max with the 2.0 TDCI engine.

The Ford engine is undoubtedly the smoother and quieter but the TDI is far more economical and is more than up to the job. A great motorway cruiser. Ford ownership was a litany of problems. Eleven visits to the dealer for problems from windscreen wipers to door locks in the warranty period Culminated in a DMF failure after 45,000 miles costing me the best part of a grand.

Only visit to Skoda dealer in the first 19,000 mile has been for a 10,000 mile service

Skoda definitely better put together and cabin a nice place to be. Some find the seats on he hard side but I find them supportive on a long drive. Would not go back to a Ford

Chips with everything

As you may have seen in the HJ Classifieds, I'm selling my late father's Ford Fusion.

I've had an offer, for the full asking price from someone who hasn't seen the car and they want to pay cash.

I've stipulated that we'll need to go to the bank together to pay it in, but I'm a concerned.

Should I be?

Any advice would be gratefully received. Read more

Thanks will do. I wasn't 100% sure of the Classifieds rules to be honest and was under the impression that it was for 1 week only.

In the current climate, it probably is overpriced - although I've used the CAP clean price and taken a bit off.

The timing of the sale isn't the best, so I'm not sure whether to leave it until next year or go for broke with a more realistic price. The latter sounds the better of the two, I think.

Many thanks again to all, your advice has been invaluable.

Thank you.

In today's Telegraph www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/3462203/Traffic-light...l

The Thunderer has a bit more on it.

Here's the gist (bits stolen from both articles):

Pedestrians crossing a section of the ring road in Ashford, Kent are encouraged to step out in front of cars as all road users ? whether on foot, on a bike or in a car ? share equal priority. Pedestrians can cross the road wherever and whenever they choose, without waiting for a gap in the traffic.

People wishing to cross the road should first make eye contact with approaching drivers. This has led to criticism from blind charities, who claim that blind people will be unable to negotiate a crossing.

The speed limit has been reduced to 20mph but there is no plan to enforce it and there are no road humps or chicanes to compel drivers to slow down. Instead, the designers claim will obey the limit because the road width has been reduced to leave vehicles only just enough room to squeeze past each other. Kerbs have also been lowered and the distinction between road and pavement deliberately blurred. The theory is that lights lull people into a false sense of security, meaning that they pay less attention on a green light and fail to notice someone stepping off the pavement.

Looks to me like a long lost Monty Python script, i haven't laughed so much for ages. I can just imagine the sketch .. "Mr Permenantly Disabled, a poker player from Splat in Gotchashire claimed from his hospital bed that he had right of way because he had made eye contact..." !

All vehicles are the same width then .. ? Citroen C1, ... Fire Engine, ... do we need a degree course in common sense ?

Looking at buyingthis car, the one that i have seen has a strange noise that can be described as suction noise, it happens when the car is standing and you accelerate and as you let go there is a suction noise coming from the engine. Is this noise normal for this car. I know my friend has a saloon 2.5 tdi and it definitely doesnt make this very obvious noise. Could it be coming from th Turbo, it like air being sucked but it is very loud,

Number of whiplash claims 'must be cut' was an article in today's new section of the website.

I claimed for whiplash 7 years ago - why? because :-

1) I was hit in the rear and damage + sore neck
2) Both cars behind were same Ins company. Both drivers blamed one another
3) Their insurer would not pay for hire car for me
4) Neither claims office (Glasgow for 1 car and Leeds for the other) would take charge and settle damage or interim loss of NCB

5) Paid my own damage and claimed for neck damage
After 2 years they settled and the costs were £800 damage, £1100 lawyer+ court and £4,000 for neck pain.

If they had owned up and settled quickly it would have cost the insurer £800 + out of pocket expenses. I would not have gone for whiplash but for their poor attitude to an innocent person. Read more
