Wondered if you clever people could help.

I have a 206 1.1L, which keeps cutting. Have had the lambda sensor changed, ignition coil changed. The ECU keeps coming up with ignition coil problems, but new one isn't faulty. The garage said it was a small air leak, too small to find therefore, too small to fix! However, car continues to cut.
Before I take it to Peugeot again and leave it there, does anyone have any thoughts on what/where the problem lies?

I've possibly been a bit vague, let me know.

When does it cut out? At constant speed, or coming to rest.

What exact code is found.

What's are the best deals you've come across recently, what are the real bargains out there at the moment?

Trade Sales are offering an 08 reg Vectra estate with 18k miles for £5999, some independent dealers have also got terrific deals on the outgoing Vauxhall. Seems like incredible value to me. As a £16k car, the Vectra is an also ran, but at £6k.....

Can anyone better this? Read more

I know a few Nigerian accountants selling Porsche 911s for £3500. Too good to miss apparently.

followed a very slow moving towed horse box for miles down a country road and then down the A40 in a very long stream of (frustrated) traffic.
I actually stopped off on the route, picked up a newspaper and caught the long queue up!
pondered that there is a (not unreasonable ) expectation from horse riders that other motorists slow right down and pass carefully etc and yet when they are towing I cant recall seeing a similar courtesy to pull over and let traffic pass them.
Also wondered if this might slow up say emergency vehicles trying to get past a queue of slow cars. Is this sort of discourtesy illegal, is it ever likely to get punished (not from a speed camera, thats for sure!)
However it great for bikers who can run straight past the chain of cars and know ahead they will have a nice clear road . Read more

What could he possibly have suggested other than don't ride on the road somewhere a
horse rider has every entitlement to be? He'd have got a mouthful off me if
he'd tried to give me a safety lecture on where I can and can't ride.

Maybe you would not need the safety lecture, maybe you, like myself and the officer in question would have enough sense not to be riding on that stretch of road! It was in the middle of the Berkshire countryside, plenty of fields, bridleways and other off road riding habitat for them.

Aside from the fact that these were quite young riders (early to mid teens) what on earth were the parents thinking. I would hazard a guess they would not have let them on the same piece of road on a pushbike (NSL road), so why allow it on a 1 ton animal with a mind of it's own!!!!!

Horses are for fields not the highways!

Hi All,

I have noticed recently that a number of junctions in the south east corner of the M25 have just had traffic lights installed and wondered if anyone had an idea why they have been as I can't see there would be any real benefit. They are, according to the signs, only going to be used occasionally...

Also, if anyone knows what the building with the arched roof is that has recently been built just outside the M25 at, I think, Junc 14 is it'd be good to know and would help me to show a little intelligence in front of SWMBO who asked recently- I need all the help I can get to look intelligent :-(

Thanks. Read more

Ramp metering? I wonder how long it will be before some bright? spark in The Department of Transport comes up with the idea of motorists putting a £1 coin in a slot to gain access to the ramp? I hope they don't read this post! :)

I am trying to establish the minimum standards for a concrete structure in the highway.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You will need to look in 'The Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works', Volume 3. F & G series give you standard details of such construction.

I was very unsure about this as I am split down the middle as I use my car and public transport and I live in the middle of Manchester.

However I have recently seen certain types of shops with vote no posters in them, these shops have often annoyed me with their total disregard for the law including parking on double yellow lines etc .

So as longs as GMPTE does what they promise I will be voting yes. As you all know from my many many posts I do love cars but I believe in a crowded country we do need to think about when we use them.

I would even question how many cars in central Manchester are even essential. The only purpose I have used my car for so far is carrying computers and going to my local PCWORLD which used to be a 25 minute walk.

And remember people this charge is only for peak time, so it won't affect that many people anyway. I had a bit argument with a friend last week on the matter, he was saying it would take him too long to get to the city centre by public transport, which I then pointed out but they will be a tram stop at your door which will take less than ten minutes to go get into town. Compare that to driving into town spending £3 a day parking 1 mile from your office etc.

I run my own business, own and run my own car, yet I am voting for the charge :). I am not bad, I just have common sense.

Edit lets please keep this friendly, I think there might have been discusions on here before I can't remember. I would also like to point out that there are still many issues I want to find the answer to before I do vote yes, and there is a chance I might not vote at all, but I certainly will not be voting No. Read more

What are Mod`s and HJ`s rules or views on this?

It turns out that I have 50 megs of space of my own with our ISP. Enough to put photo`s illustrating a thread online via Tinyurl.
Typical photo`s would be 3.25mb and I wouldn`t want to mess about reducing the size and quality - as they would be going onto my own site. (+don`t have software)

They say a picture paints a thousand words - you could see the greased sump and subframes ;) or even very detailed shots of battlefields - trenches and so on - as I motored through them.

I would leave shots on my site for a few days to a week or so, maybe longer - and remove ready for others to take their place when interest in the thread diminishes and it drops off the second place.

What about the URL`s though? Would those Tinyurl URL`s then point to new pictures not relevant to the earlier thread?

Anyway, It was just a thought, I`m not really that bothered either way, but just thought it may add a little interest.

Regards

Hi all,

We (me, wife & 11 week old son) currently run an 04 reg Toyota Avensis 1.8vvti T4 hatch, and very happy with it we are. Big enough to fit junior's pram & gubbins in and reasonably economical, if not terribly exciting.

However...

I am about to come into an inheritance. While we have no desire/ reason to change the car at the moment, I am getting very tempted by all these cheap luxo-barges. The wife has always wanted an S-type jag, and it looks like they are temptingly cheap (£10k for an 05 plate 3.0v6 from a main dealer?). We'd struggle to justify a car like that under normal circs, but with prices as low as they are and some cash coming it feels like an opportunity to be a bit naughty!

So, a few questions:
Would the running costs be crippling compared to our Toyota (we do about 6-7k a year)?
Will these jags go much cheaper?
Any reliablility issues?
Is the 3.0v6 the one to go for (the CBCB suggests these are good, but also recommends the 4.2, which is tempting but may be scarily high on juice)?
Mrs APM really fancies a jag, but I would be open to alternatives. I'd like to look at: 530, E class, S80 and A6; any other good options I've missed?

Thanks in advance!

Alex.

I've just bought a voyager 2001 model (the newer model for that year) 2.5CRD LE and the rear wiper isn't working. The switch lights up in both positions - anyone got any ideas where's the best place to start to track this down? The rear demister also seems a bit weak, though that may be because it still had cold water on the outside.

Also, can anyone explain to me exaclty what the hot air boost does - it seems to be working (it makes a noise and there was a puff of diesel exhaust from under the car when I switched the engine off when still cold).

Has anyone ever found a way to convert the MPG display to UK gallons instead of US gallons?

Many thanks Read more

actd

Ah Merlin,

seems you are on this forum as well. Excellent :-)

I have a sticker saying that the MPG is in US gallons, but good point about the metric - I'll switch across and do a calculation to see what it equates to in Imperial MPG.

With regards to the ancillary heater, mine is a diesel model, and I'd been playing with the heater, so presumably it kicked in. Never come across one before, but I like the idea.

Got your reply on the motor on the other forum thanks.

Hi my p reg 1.6e megane has done 62,000 miles and has run fine until I have recently started getting a jumping in the car when you take your foot off the power. I took it to a local garage who fixed a leaking head gasket ect this cost me £200 but did not cure my problem. I have since been told it could be the HT leads, spark plugs so I changed them to no joy. Then I was told its the coils so ive spent £80 on two coil packs but the car still jumps when you decelerate sometimes when you accelerate you can feel a slight lack of power then it comes back again. I have now been told its a map sensor or something I am not a mechanic so I do not now what to do This is soul destroying can anyone help.
