Hi,
Due to a sudden change in personal circumstances, I need a car that will comfortably carry 3 adults, two children (in booster seats) and a Collie sized dog.
I don't really want to use the 3rd row of seats as there's going to be luggage (and the dog!) there - so am wondering if anyone here has managed this set up.
A VW Touran looks a better bet, as the middle seat in the 2nd row looks larger, but I'm not sure it is.
Just after an opinion before we all start going around car supermarkets,
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, that's another option that I hadn't considered. It's also steered me towards looking at the Grand Scenic offered by Renault.
It seems you get a lot more for your money, but I'm slightly paranoid (justified or not) about French electrics - so will have to give it some thought.
We'll perhaps pop down to FOW this weekend and see what "ticks most of the boxes".
Thanks again.
The engine went in limp mode when low on fuel?.(did not run out just light on) refueled and drove home with the engine light on max rev 2500. day after would not start. There is a bulb to press for the fuel a couple of squeazes, she starts then immediately stops and strangely the head lights come. It is now in the peugoet workshop and diagnosed as having an air leak on the fuel filter. They said this could be the problem but untill replaced cannot gaurantee that there would no be another fault. I feel it was strange to run in limp mode if there was air getting in. And now putting the lights on after it starts for a second then stops. Seems more like electrical to me? any thoughts would be appreciated. The car is still with peugoet awaiting my instructions for them to go ahead, if it is only the fuel fillter housing could fit myself and save £65.00 plus vat
Thankyou
Billy

Hello Srewqloose,
The problem is now sorted. It was the filter housing drawing in air. A new housing and filter cured it. Limp mode engine warning light etc all confused the issue everything went normal when restarted . Back to basics when a diesel will not start check for air in the fuel lines first. A lesson learned again.
I am new to this site and find it absolutely brill for info and recommending it to all.
Only one comment though on Reg date and manufactured date on the drop down menu. Unless you can read the date of manufacture from the chassis no, info on the registration document only gives registration date not the date of manufacture, which could be months and years earlier. Special notes on the V5C may state new at first registration but the vehicle may have been in a compound for ages before registration confusing again the model year.
Best site I have found for a long time.
Thankyou.
Kind Regards Bill

Covert cameras deected 44,000 drivers exceeding the speed limit in a 7 day period. What is the reaction of the local council? Put in speed bumps! I bet the locals will love the noise and pollution they will cause! A police crackdown @ £60 per person caught would be a lot better I would have thought

Wow I can't believe that I missed this story totally. Bear in mind that I live in the mention 'neighbouring village of Overseal' and Linton village is only about a mile and a half away from me. This is the first I have heard of it - I never saw any local press about it at all.
Linton village is pretty much just like any other village, yes it is built up right in the middle and is subject to a large area of 30mph speed limit, but it does have a good few differing rural-ish routes out of the village that I dare say are all 30mph zones beyond where they need to be. Its not a village that I travel through much even though it is so close.
I can also vouch though that there are very few accidents in the village. Accidents around this way do tend to be reported quite well in the local press but very very few ever seem to occur in Linton. The surrounding lanes are a lot more dangerous that the village roads themselves.
I think that this is a case of sensationalistic reporting on behalf of the BBC.
Hi when starting my passat for a short spell of time i can smell the fumes of unburt diesel coming through the air vents.? any ideas thanks Read more
Does it have a cabin diesel heater? (Does it get warm really quickly in very cold weather?)
Fan heater blows cold all time. Could it be a faulty fuse or thermostat? If so where would i find thermostat-is it easy to replace? Just had new water pump fitted but problem was their before! Read more
Hi All,
I have a 1.8 T Ford Focus. I have been reading the forums and my Focus has what seems to be quite a common problem:
* Speedo drops to zero, car loses some power, speedo springs back into life and car resumes its power
* Car radio volume seems to reduce when speedo drops
* When speedo is on 0 and I slow down power dies completely
I have read this on so many posts this morning. What I want to know is, for the people who have had this problem, has it been resolved by a new sensor being fitted? I have been quoted £77 fitting approx by a local mechanic, is this about right?
Your views much appreciated, thanks, Caroline

The Focus has cost me a fortune. I used to rely on Ford for around a third of my work - nice to work on and the parts were easily-accessible and cheap.
Then they brought the flippin' Focus out - and.... nothing! Never see one; [apart from this issue] never make a brass farthing out of them!
The output signal is easy to check; there should be a flashing test light [10v - 0v alternating] on the blue/white when the wheel slowly rotates - plug connected, engine running.
A new VSS fixes over 80% of this fault.
Hi,
I have a 1999 2.5 V6 Ford Cougar. I came out this morning to find that the trip computer/LCD Display was not working. The display was blank. I've looked through the owners manual, checking to see if it may be fuse related however, it doesn't seem to be so.
Is this just a case of a broken/faulty display and if so is this expensive to replace/repair or is it a fuse issue or something else?
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

My 75 diesel on 2 occassions with more than 1000 miles between has refused to start after short 10 minute stop. I have removed the inlet to the filter turned the ignition until fuel flowed, and then the outlet from the filter and after getting fuel to flow replaced the pipe, and the engine fired first time and ran perfect. The first time the fuel tank was over 1/4 full on the second 3/4 full . My wife is refusing to drive until problem identified. The car has 160,000 miles and has never been a problem apert from a faulty battery.
I look forward to any suggestions. Thanks Read more

Andy's got it; they are famous for the top of the accumulator in the tank coming unscrewed.
There was even an official modification for it - little chance that's still around - but a judiciously-placed self-tapping screw has been known to stop them coming unscrewed.
When I check out the HJ site at home or at work, it incessantly tries to hawk me a POS Dell Laptop.
Is this courtesy of HJ, or is it adware on both PCs ?

It has been reported - HJ will be speaking to the advertising agency as soon as they open in the morning.

The shims are above the buckets (the cams act directly on them) on this engine and they will come out with the camshaft in place.
Work methodically, recording all results and the procedure is quite simple. The shim thicknesses are engraved on their undersides, but a micrometer is frequently needed as the markings wear off.
