Hi everone, I'm a new member to this forum as I've just been told about it by a family member.
I've had my 406 V reg for 11 months and bought it from a friend. Ever since I've had the car the front wipers haven't worked properly. They only stay on normal speed for about 30 seconds and then park in awkward places and the same goes for fast speed. They don't work on intermittent at all and when they are used in conjunction with the washers they do about 9 swipes and stop anywhere.
This problem has now caused it to fail the MOT and I've had the car off the road now for 12 weeks trying to sort the problem. I took it to my local Peugeot dealer who diagnosed the problem as the wiper motor but wanted £200 to replace it so I decided to get a second hand one from eBay. This had the same problem so I got another one and it too had the same problem.
I've now replaced the BSI with a brand new one and had it coded to the car by my local Peugeot dealer but the problem is still there. I thought the wiper relay was incorporated into the BSI on the Peugeot 406 but please tell me if I'm wrong. I've also replaced the wiper switch. I'm now investigating the wiper motor and have noticed that when the wiper switch is in the normal constant wipe mode it does about 9 or 10 wipes and stops and the same with the fast mode. I've also counted the revolutions of the motor and it doesn't stop in the same place ie it may do 9.5 turns or 9.75 turns but the last turn is never a full one hence the reason for the wipers not stopping in the same place every time. Can this be a motor fault or a relay problem.
Has anyone had the same problem and has anyone got a solution to this problem? Read more
Put a 12v supply direct to the wiper motor and see if it runs continiously if so its the actual stalk or more than likely the timer relay.
Just a general question not really specific to the make of car. {sorted}
The rubber door seals on our 11 year old Camry have perished in one place (maybe about a six inch strip)
I'm getting a bit of extra wind noise now and was wondering if it was possible to self-repair these or is it a bodyshop/main dealer (i.e. lots of dosh) job.
Does anyone know of universal door seal that can be bought and are they any good?
Can I cut out the perished section and just patch a piece into that or does it have to be the whole door seal?
Many thanks in advance

Your local scrap (sorry, car dismantler) may have something suitable.
Having no spare wheel (crazy) no proper auto or CVT high price I can not see the new Jazz selling as well as the old flimsy dangerous one. No Power of Dreams only NIGHTMARES of Safety (old model)

My impression on reading hj review of the jazz is mixed. First of all, limited engine choices, No 1.5 ivtec, no diesel, why did they ditch the idsi 1.4/1.2 of the old jazz, i thought that the latest jazz wil incoperate both idsi and ivtec i was dissapointed.
The economy figures are better than the old jazz 1.4 and 1.2 engine sizes, but their performance is very similar to the old jazz.
size wise it gained a few mm but also gained weight, i also agree with the opinion that a space saver tyre would have been more practical, am also waiting for honda to release the 1.2 hybrid and see how that will fare.
i have a 1.4 se jazz, a 2003 version and am looking forward in test driving the new jazz when it does come out in october/november.
Why the embargo of driving impressions?
My friend is wanting to use my car for the weekend and im not to sure how the legal stuff works. He is wanting to get insured on my car just for a week but im not to keen on putting him on my insurance because if he was involved in an accident it would ruin my no claims bonus. Is there any way around this so that he could get his own insuarnce for the week and if was involved in an accident it would not effect my no claims.

I can only recommend Dayinsure. I'm a little confused as to what Andy's on about as all the cars I've insured myself on have been insured by the people that do own them when I've been driving them...if that makes any sense.
What I'm trying to say is, they've already been insured on another policy when I've taken out this short term one.

On the BBC radio 4 yesterday the YOU and yours program was all about motor cars and some parts were quite intersesting until they interviewed a numpty who owned a service repair garage (with more eqipment in it than a NASA space station) who went onto say such things that you cannot renew brake pads without a computer and if you were to put the wrong oil in a car then you would totally trash the engine his main jist was that only he could repair or service cars and anybody who did any form of home service was a potetial murderer.Remind me to stay away from his garage. At a new strip mall near us which has just opened, some of the best parking spots not reserved for the disabled. Instead there is a sign posted saying "Preferred Parking for Fuel Efficient Vehicles". Coming soon to a strip near you! Read more
no problem with disabled spaces near the entrance - (Tho at our asda we see
loads of people who have obviously borrowed granma's blue ticket)
But why can't we have spaces for obese people - as far from the entrance
as possible.
Here at least, they are often one and the same! You seem to get given your disabled badge once you reach a certain weight.
Help needed please - my tdci 115 focus has been running a bit lumpily in third recently and today when driving in traffic in I think 2nd gear at about 2000rpm, several times when I took my foot off the accelerator the engine ran on & even tried to increase the speed! Any idea what this means? I've seen various references on the web to injector recalibrating - is this likely to be needed or would it help to put some injector cleaner through the engine - I'm not sure if this is recommended with these engines ??
Secondly, I've been thinking about having the ECU remapped by a reputable firm to boost the rather naff low speed torque & improve fuel consumption, does anyone know if this can help the above problems - presumably they would look at the ECU and find out if anything untoward is happening anyway??
Any other thoughts?

If its the same as the later ones they all seem to do this on and off to a certain extent. Ford usualy blame the Bosch EGR unit when you go in for a service, but say that as the engine management has not loged it as a fault, Ford will not take it as a warantee claim. Have you been using cheap supermarket fuel?
I blame the company I work at for buying the thing in the first case.
P.S Screwloose advise on fuel lines is good though.
Recently got a 00 S40 with 140k miles on the clock.
Problem is when the throttle is blipped, the car will not return to its idle speed for a few moments, and alternates between 1500rpm and 500rpm for about 3 cycles, before it steadies itself. This manifests itself when the engine is warm.
Also, there is a nasty rumble from the engine at about 1200rpm - appears to be from the top. Could it be a stickyVVT solenoid/pump assembly? No faults are logged in memory?
Anyone been here, worn the t-shirt?? Read more
Thanks for that Screwloose. I'll delve into those areas if it ever stops raining here!
Not the codes, faults and so on.. Rather the human interest story.
Did you really creep up the Motorway out of Leeds at a steady 40mph, like a three legged donkey? With hideous bray and raucous cry and so on...
Or did it just lisp quietly along like mine did transfixing you with its petulance and imposed risk.
Put simply, what`s your tale of its bad behaviour? Read more
Fortunately I never had to use limp-home, but the Australian Fords of the 1990's had separate electronic controllers for the engine and gearbox. If the engine controller crashed, it defaulted to 2000 rpm, and if the gearbox controller crashed it defaulted to third. It would have made interesting driving, because 2000 rpm in top gear exceeeded the speed limit. { But Officer, I was just limping along !! } The 4-litre six would go anywhere in third, just a bit pricey in petrol.

It's pointless because as I've just seen it told you very little.
I totally agree about the education - that's what I was expecting as I am very interested in the Honda as it may suit our needs.
Unfortunately it boiled down to just mpg around town - but mid 50s from a 2.0TDi 110PS around Blackpool? It must have been a very quiet day with all the traffic lights on the Golden Mile set at green, or they did a good stretch of the M55 at 60mph.
I also noticed the Golf was a manual, the Honda isn't.
Mid 50s mpg from an auto petrol large enough for a family seems excellent to me, which is the comparison to be made.
