Now that gas powered cars are becoming more common, the term "gas guzzlers" is misleading and perhaps should be dropped. Read more
Our 216 frequently won't restart when it's a bit warm. If you do a decent run and it gets hot it will restart ok, but a short run almost guarantees hassle--it will fire up then die immediately.
If we wait a couple of minutes it will run again. It's a real pain at the pumps!!!
It can't be too serious or it wouldn't go so any suggestions please?? Read more
> My rover 216 appears to have same problem. It appears as if all rovers have this similar problem, mine starts after series of attempts to start it and the water easily gets hot and i dont know what to do. Try and also get the fuel filter checked for urs
You need to follow my link posted above; the diagnostic information on the "Tegger" page describes a specific sequence of clicks, whirrs and lights which indicate correct operation of the Main Relay. Next time your Rover refuses to start, check for the sequence. If it's not correct, you just need to re-solder the Main Relay (see links for details).
Introducing a whole new level of interest for advocates of diesel fuel additives... snigger..;);)

A serious point though. (well..;)
It was often said (can`t remember where) that its best to keep your car fuel tank as full as possible of derv in Winter to avoid water condensing out of the air and contaminating the fuel.
However, It seems asphaltines form at a micro level as fuel ages and this is a primary cause of filter service life being reduced due to its gradual build up on the element.
So what`s best for the car (or filter) that only gets through a tank of diesel every few weeks in Winter?
On the one hand, the tank could be gradually run to empty, letting condensation occur with risk of creatures living in the water drop in the fuel filter base, feeding on the fuel and skeletons building up in a pile...
Alternatively the tank could be topped off with a gallon or so weekly. But then some fuel molecules are going to be in there for years and asphaltines would build up..
OK, maybe you`re wanting to write `change the filter` and so on.. but you can`t be let off that easily...;)
Maybe the answer is only the presenting question. If belief is the price of sentience, what`s going on in the fuel system and do you really want to intervene?

"who was doing double green shield stamps.."
You mean quadruple -and whether you could get 4 gallons for a quid!
The choice of radiators are Nissen, Valeo, VW, will be keeping the car for about 6 years.
What would be the best option fro replacement bearing in mind cost will be a major consideration
BTW who manufactures the VW radiator

DP is absolutely right; if the oil on a diesel isn't searingly hot and the accumulated soot in the exhaust hasn't just been blasted out; then it'll all come out on the test.
On one of these; a stuck EGR valve is the likeliest root cause of soot; get it removed, checked for a broken head and thoroughly cleaned.
hello
Is it standard practice to phone , sketch and then give 2/3 interviews when the other party involved claims for injury ? Things requested include MOT drivers licence log book and interview at home/work ?
Any advice welcome !!! Read more
I dont like the sound of that !!!
Have you anything to hide?

Care to tell us a bit more about the circumstances?
Solicitor or own 'loss adjuster' needed ?
Depends onthe answers to questions above.
Is it possible that the "blame" is not clear, and Insurance Company's loss adjuster may decide after the "interview" that you are not to blame and therefore there is no claim to worry about?
My in-laws bought a Golf deisel six months ago from a main dealer who did the 36k service including the oil change. This is the first deisel they have owned, i have never owned a deisel. In-laws are concerned that the oil is now black after only 6 months and about 3k miles. I looked at the dip stick and it is the blackest sootiest oil i have seen in 30 years!
Do deisels blacken their oil because of the fuel pollutants and so this is normal after such a short time?
Any advice appreciated.

NOBODY can understand the service interval instructions in a Golf handbook - they must have employed a dyslexic illiterate to write them.
You have it quite right; an annual change with the special PD-only oil.
Just acquired a 106 - when I move away in 1st I hear a clonking type noise that repeats a couple of times a second or so as i accelerate. It is still there in second and third but seems to die out in the higher gears.
I wondered about drive shafts but this is in a straight line not when turning?
Any ideas where the problem could lie?
Thanks.

can anyone tell me if the diesel pump on a renault kangoo 1.9 diesel year 1999 is the same as a renault clio 1.9 diesel preg they both use the f8q engine and lucas pumps , and both non turbo. just need to no whether there exactly the same ?
any ideas?
cheers Read more
Depends what you call exactly; the Clio F8Q 714 uses an R8444B and the Kangoo F8Q 630 uses an R8448B.
Exact engine codes [there are 7 versions of the Clio 1.9D in '97 alone and 3 versions of the Kangoo] will help.
What about just using the correct words? Then you could have a (dark) green car which guzzled (LP) gas.
