I have a Peugeot XTB 1.6 1999 modell .
Does anybody know which OBD version the ECU is using for this model? (OBDII or earlier..) The plug is J1962 , but a OBDII/EOBD reader I tried ,could not communicate with the ECU , so maybe the french has got their own protocols for pre 2000 modells, does anybody know ?

My '99 Peugeot ,modell XTB 1.6 , has the MIL (motor indicator light) turned on, when brought garage ,the ECU code indicated a flywheel sensor (crankshaft sensor ?) problem, after clearing code , code did not appear again, and all was ok for some weeks. Then the MIL light was lit again, then disappered, later the same evening.
Some days after it was lit again. After the MIL lits the engine jerks
for a while, especially uphill. Does the symptom indicate sensor fault or could
there be a another reason? .. like cam belt, or injection system ?

A periodic fault in the flywheel/crank sensor signal could be a ham-fisted way of saying that there's a misfire; or that it fails periodically...?
The sensor does measure the periods between crank half-rotations and will note a longer one - where there was no acceleration of the crank due to that cylinder not firing. [Yes; it can even tell which one misfired.]
TU crank sensors do go - and water gets in their plugs - but I'm still thinking "what coilpack?"
hi room, i had a bump in january on the motorway m1 , got side swiped by a german registered artic , i wrote to the company in march and have heard nothing, i then got in touch with MIB (motor insures bureau) with details of the accident but the police at the scene of the crash didnt take all the details i seem to need ....the MIB have written back asking for the
1. name and address of driver (he was latvian and was pleading the 5th )
2. the make, mod, colour of vehicle ( the police wrote schmitz on the accident report)
3. the constat amiable (what ever that is)
any advise would be welcomed, is there a regisry of foreign vehicles i can check, i have the artics tractor and trailor reg numbers...thats all ......thanks again, zoo Read more
maybe im getting mixed up.. the driver is latvian but the company is german registered, and judging by the link it looks like latvian plates, more investigation needed, thanks davwood
Anyone want to discuss them? Don`t want to tap out a long post if there`s no interest.
Dang, too long, I was trying to get it down to 6 words ;) Read more
"I still can't quite get my head around the idea that the fuel filter is supposed to last indefinately on our pick up."
Wonder if its one of these (new?) fleece filters? Be interesting to know how they arrive at that conclusion GB.
Given its a Pick up and some of the construction site one`s must surely get fuel from company storage tanks, rather than pump diesel.
I was surprised mine was a 36,000 interval....

Even if it had one, as some Hdi's do; idiot bodges like that would have the car in limp-home within 200 yds. These systems are frighteningly complex and self-aware; you can't just play with them like an old 405.
The ECU constantly computes [and displays] what the boost level should be for those revs and intake air volume [the target boost] and any deviation in the actual boost signal would flag a heavyweight code immediately.
Hydrogen is the latest shysters' snake oil - if it worked, it would already be on there. You've been had; bin it before you damage the engine.
Incidentally what's the engine code on this one; there were a few 1.6HDI's around at the end of '05?
Hello,
I am currently in the process of terminating my finance agreement with the finance company as i am half way through the aggrement. They sent a bloke to inspect the vehilce today from a reputable breakdown company to ensure the vehicle was in reasonable condition. He has come back with a wriiten report, stating that all four alloys need refurbishing and that there is a dent in the passenger door which you can hardly see, oh and a new tyre which i fully accept the tyre
The vehilce is on an X plate and Ive had it for two years its got 46000 on the clock and 3 owners me being the forth.
Can anyone advise the best thing to do as I think its really unfair that they want all this work done so the vehilce goes back in Showroom condition when I didn't buy it like that. There is an old AA report from the previsous owner whichs notes various dents and scratches on the vehilce. I can't remember whether the vehilce had damaged alloys when I bought it. The finance agreement states "reasonable condition" Its got an MOT a full service history" Any help please Read more
The car is worth about 2000 grand with a settlement of 3700 grand so there is quite a difference so it makes alot of sense to get rid as soon as
I have a 2004, one of the last built, Focus 1.8 Zetec 5 speed manual.
Intermittantly it get stuck in either 1st or reverse gear. To get into neutral I have to switch the engine off then put the car in neutral and restart it. All seems OK after this but I wonder if anybody has come across this before ?

Was the clutch cylinder. Local garage changed it and has been OK. Well only for a week but I think you were correct.

my tank on my car holds 63 litres of petrol how many miles would i get to the gallon.
its a bmw 320ci se on a 55 plate 2.2 engine. 14 k on the clock Read more
180 miles with a little left in reserve ragging it mercilessly down an empty autobahn.
Full tank of petrol will probably last 6 months, with some additive, before going off if you put it in the garage and leave the keys on the shelf.
Another other driving will probably fall somewhere between the two...

"I was on the M1 last week with the roof open, and it started to rain. I was in 50mph limit section. My roof only closes if the car is doing under 25mph. I looked in the mirror and there was only 1 car behind me, a red VW Polo a few hundred yards back. I slowed down to 25, activated the roof (which takes 15 seconds to close"
Which bit of the M1 was this? Sounds a bit dangerous given the usual M1 traffic density - could get 42 tons of Lithuanian artic up your backside. Surely safer to pull onto hard shoulder then slow to a crawl while it goes up, then boot it and pull back out into traffic.
Ok, narrowed it down to two, the Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 16v Sporting Dynamic or the Mazda 2 1.3 TS2 (86bhp). I have driven both and think the Mazda is the better drivers car. However, the Fiat is better equipped and has slightly better performance (although this is not really noticeable). The Mazda has the better economy and warranty but the Fiat seems slighlty roomier. The Mazda seems to have a better range of colours, the Punto is cheaper blah blah blah.......... The bottom line is that they both have their good points. If anyone has anything to add to help me choose it would be appreciated.
Don't suggest any others, as styling comes top when I choose a car and I think these are the best looking five door superminis currently available, (with the Yaris a close third). Read more
having just brought a Mazda for SWMBO i am very suprised and happy with it. It already feels like one of the family even after 6 weeks.
What it should be - and what it actually is, are commonly very different on French cars...
Only an eyeball test; or plugging in a scanner with ECU identification powers will tell you for sure.
